One of my favorite beatem ups many of my friends never heard of haha. From first discovering the sick air supers to blasting the killer soundtrack during a workout, this one is special. Great review. 💯
For the sake of being fair, Con Air was produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, and he comes across to me as the sort of dude who'd requisition a video game plot for a movie. Also, he was involved with Prince of Persia: Sands of Time in 2010.
@@35infinite Nawh, don't say that. I believe in you. The music and presentation of the intro is great, but the pixel visuals sliding across all zoomed in as it is here, is a bit jarring to me. But keep up the good content and I'll stay!
You can execute "a get the F'ck off me special", OMG, you made my morning with that one. That should be the official term for that move across the genre, as that is the purpose in every game. As for this game, I actually played the SNES port long before I ever knew it was an actual arcade game. Once I discovered this in MAME, it has been a beat em up favorite ever since. Normally games in this genre can often feel the same, as often times a wash, rinse and repeat formula is used during the design process. But sometimes you get an IP that tries to flip the script and do new things, and that is what you get here. Not the most perfect beat em up, but one that is better than most even with the recycled enemies. For sure one of my favs in this genre.
lol yeah, my friend and I always call'em GTFO moves. And I am for making it an official term. It's great that we can still find great games in a genre that can appear "samey" on paper and it's a great surprise every time. Thanks for watching.
This is like at least the 5th time I've come down to the comments on one of your videos, noticed there were only a few, wondered if I just got here super early, and then remembered you only have 7k subs. I don't understand why that number isn't 100 times higher.
I always loved the sprite work but always assumed this has generic gameplay. Wasn’t aware of a lot of what you pointed out . I’ll have to give it another try . Great entertaining and inappropriate commentary. Thanks for uploading!
As soon as I read it, The Last Boy Scout was immediately in my mind lol Yeah, the sprite work is great, they're a good team. I'm glad they escaped Irem. Thanks for watching.
i wish pixel art games make a comeback, 3d cgi games will always one up themselves with each new launch, pixel art last forever, imagine the games we could make with the processor of today
This looks AWESOME! That said story wise, if I saw someone pick up a freaking car to throw...yeah my days of "crime" are OVER. Heck the next stage should start with Half or all the guys you fight lined up at the start bowing and giving up. "Yeah....we saw what you did to those last guys....it just ain't worth it!"
I've played this game a couple of times and didn't notice the nipples. That aside, i didn't know about the super move either, have to revisit the game. The game has a pretty good OST, "Chaca Chaca Move Ya" is my favourite. Also the "alpha renewal version" is the version that i recommend to go. Nice review!
Have you played GunForce 1 or 2? They're basically Metal Slug; like, IREM made them, but then the people responsible for them f**ked off to SNK and started making Metal Slug titles. At the very least, it showed that IREM could _also_ make quality run 'n' guns (although, I suppose technically, those just count as a type of shooter). Don't play Superior Soldiers though. That just goes to show IREM couldn't make a good fighting game. Weird character designs that are mostly unappealing ('cept for Arabian Moon) and an insane difficulty level keep it from being anything other than a bad time... At any rate, I haven't played this personally, but I got plenty of emulator machines at my disposal. I'll fire up one of them and hunt this down on Final Burn Alpha and give it a shot _if I don't get distracted by other beat 'em ups like Guardians of Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon or anything..._
I have not played this one. I think I’ve heard of it and then forgot. Anyway, I think I’d have a hard time enjoying it, because I’m allergic to spending large chunks of health on special moves. The game is gorgeous though! She really does animate like Cody, but better - much more cloth movement in the frames makes it more interesting to look at.
On the topic of Irem beat-'em-ups, you should also check out Ninja Baseball Bat Man (no relation to the DC character) and Hook. (yes relation to the Spielberg movie) Also, let's not forget that Irem was behind Kung-Fu Master, commonly considered to be the forefather of the beat-'em-up genre 😉

Kabuki quantum fighter's mention is pure class

@@ZeroCrystal lol I'm down with going along with a Con Air/Undercover Cops conspiracy
@35infinite I wasn't really thinking crossover/conspiracy, but now that you mention it... 🧐🤔
@@ZeroCrystal It is now canon
He even gave Nicholas Cage the same freakin haircut from the game 😂

Amazing pixel art. Great gem from IREM. Btw japanese version has hidden super specials that were cut in the other versions.
I ended up playing this a retro arcade recently. I also didn’t know about the super moves.

With each video, my hate for the intro grows. Please reconsider it.
I will admit, it's a bit of a sensory overload with all the colors, but I like the content!

No, Con Air was so terrible I am sure it took its main character's backstory from a video game that did it better.
