WOMAN, Yann Arthus-Bertrand's next movie
Following in the footsteps of his previous film, HUMAN, Yann Arthus-Bertrand is now dedicating his next full-length feature film, WOMAN, to women. This documentary featuring thousands of voices and unique life stories narrated by women, gives us an insight into their lives, and reveals the progress made towards emancipation but also demonstrates how much remains to be done. With this new film, Yann Arthus-Bertrand seeks to speak out against the injustices suffered by women across the world. But above all, in this world devised, built and dominated by men where the future is uncertain, the goal of WOMAN is to offer an alternative view. That of women.

This woman narrates in such a lovelly way.
My grandfather was the same. Their generation were amazing storytellers.
I was particularly moved by the mother asking Francine if she could give her chocolate away before doing so. Grace.
And including her in the serving process as well as teaching her to recognize a need in someone else, that that need or suffering might exceed your own and that you can give of your substance to help them.
FOR EVERYONE WHO'S CONFUSED ABOUT HER USING "HE" WHEN THE BABY WAS A GIRL : every noun in french has a gender, there is no "it" to describe something. "Bébé" (baby) is a masculine word so it was translated as "he" in english, even though it's considered neutral in french because it's simply the expression of the gender of the noun.
So even though the baby was a girl, she would still call "le bébé" instead of "la bébé" as expected by english speakers because it doesn't exist.
French is just different, but i understand the confusion.
+Claire A. thank you , mademoiselle!
+Claire A. In Portuguese either!
+Claire A. You may have missed the part where Francine describes the baby's unwrapping when it cries out, and Francine says, ". . . c'est la, sa naissance. . . " That is, "her birth."
+Claire A. The problem is not that French works differently. The problem is that the translator did a shoddy job.
+geosutube no, the "sa" agrees with "naissance," not with the person being born. Yes, the French is not quite properly translated. She was using the masculine forms because bebe is masculine and there is no neutral way to talk about it. Translator should either have used "it" or, knowing that it was a female baby, "she," in the earlier part of the video
This story moves me so much that each time I try to explain it to others I get too choked up and can’t finish. I just find the link and send it to others so they can watch it.
Never underestimate the affect that kindness and compassion can have on the world.
Yes!!!! And nothing heals us more personally than to be kind to others. When we are experiencing our own struggles just doing a random act of kindness has such an impact on ourselves we don't even realise. Always choose kindness 💕
I cry when I explain it too. it is an incredible story and is so beautiful, the reunion.
One of the most moving and beautifully told stories of the magnitude of human kindness under terrible, hellish circumstances.
If the moral of her story is "no good deed is too small" I concur. No act of kindness is insignificant or meaningless.
Truly!
I think this is literally the most beautiful story ever told, both in content and delivery. The way in which she said "Je suis le bebe" at the end, that alone felt like it shifted the ground from beneath my feet.
Oh my God. Ths story needs to be told, retold, then retold again.
I found her story in a special calender for the last days until christmas. I am so deeply moved by her story. Thank you for sharing it. ❤
So did I found to this video as well.
Thank you
Me too. What a heart touching story, thank you
Me too.
If you every tell this story to people in
an organized setting (students etc.) consider
handing a piece of chocolate to the audience
before hearing the story.
Thank you for sharing this.
I often wonder about the endless untold stories that never reach these platforms to share its priceless value for all to learn and understand the visage of humanity. Absolute awe and sombre humility.
You word this perfectly.
@@ronmorgan737 Thank you Ron.
For those who are interested in knowing more about the story, the "baby" just published a book relating the whole story of her mother. The title is "Je suis née à Bergen Belsen" by Francine Salamon. In French only by now but high expectations that it will be released in English soon.
I'd love to read it!
Francine... She was named after this woman?
@@RavenSutcliffe That's my conclusion, too!
@@RavenSutcliffe No actually her name is Yvonne Salamon
I watch this so many times. I dont know why, but this makes me happy. Because its an incredible story, aswell its a terrible experience. I can only imagine. But only that little miracle that happend in that Camp. It touches my soul.
I guess it makes us happy because it shows that even in the darkest of times, even surrounded by atrocities and cruelty of a scope we can hardly comprehend, some people will still choose kindness. Some people will still find hope in the unlikeliest of places. Someone will reach out a hand and let you know we are not alone.
We've all heard the grand stories, the heroes like Turing who saved millions of lives, and they're as applauded as they should. But we need to know about this: about how a little girl gave up the only thing she had, because she wanted to help. About hands tended in the day-to-day of this despair and darkness, little acts of compassion and love that may very well have kept others alive until the nightmare ended.
And we need to know, I think, that even if we can't do those grand deeds, we can still do this, and it'll have an impact. No kindness is too small.
He who saves one man has saved the entire world.
I am here because of the christmas calendar 'Der Andere Advent' (Germany), in which for the 26th DEcember her story was printed. I was so touched. For a granddoughter of someone who survived 12 years in a concentration camp, probably also because here and there were glances of humantiy, exact like that. Its touching to get remembered on a day like today. So thank you Francine for sharing, your mother for behaving like she did, 'the baby' for showing herself, and the team behind the calendar for ploting it.
I just now only read this story, and as soon as my tears stopped, I viewed the video. Couldn't finish my calendar because I fell ill on the. 20th, and I put the calendar away because I knew I wanted to give each day's story my full attention
I bought one calendar for my lovely niece and one for myself. What a treasure chest that was!.
Hearing the above I am doubly proud of my Father, Alan Frickers (Captain). I learned late in his life, he only spoke of it once when I directly asked him about 'heroism in war, what was it really like?' My father was the British officer put in charge of sorting out Belsen because he was a good active officer, trained and experienced with sorting out devastated towns after battles, and spoke Yiddish.
this is so beautiful and i'll never stop coming back to it
I come back to this one often. I weep every time. It’s beautiful and I wish I could meet Francine.
I am meeting Francine and Jean Jacques her husband on the 12th February for my father's 80th birthday in London.
My absolute favorite of the "Human" project. God bless Francine AND "the baby."
A beautiful story of how simple kindnesses in such horrible times can be so critically important to another. Bless you, Francine Christophe.
Brilliant story.
It's been years since I first saw this video but I can't forget Francine's story🥺
If you were touched by this video, I encourage you to read Francine Christophe's book. It is easily found on the Internet. French title " Une petite fille privilégiée". English title "From a world apart".
En anglais : "From a world apart".
+Philippe Roggeband Thank you I will check it out..she's such a brave soul, my head is bowed when I listen to her.
This shows that we, as a society, are capable of overcoming the worst of situations. Let us all carry that "small piece" of chocolate, be it a smile, our time, help for those less fortunate, and "GIVE" it when someone is in need.
Who gave thumbs down?!?!!?! This is a beautiful story! A precious gift from another time.
Thank you to whoever took the trouble to film this and whoever put it on youTube so I could see it.
Never forget, children...
This is an incredible story, so moving what a strong amazing lady.
Merci Francine. Tu m'as fait pleurer.
wow I can feel tears welling, what a moving story
"I'm the baby"
I love this, because it shows that her mother relayed the story of how she was born and lived and liberated and grew, as well, so she could grow up on that knowledge to and one day relay it to others... and then that this could happen.
THIS is totally worth five minutes of your time . . . use it wisely and watch this!

What an incredible story from an even more remarkable and articulate woman. So impressed and defy anyone not to be moved by this compelling and humbling story. Brava!
Dear people at FranceTV mcn,
I watched this and it moved me. I wanted my fellow portuguese speaking community to understand this story, so I subtitled it and tried to upload it to my channel, where I would give total credit to you as owners and to Yann Arthus-Bertrand as author. UA-cam blocked the upload.
Will you please (1) allow me to upload it or (2) upload my translation to your channel?
Thank you.
+pnblank IT SHOULD BE IN EVERY LANGUAGE.
+SUE HB thank you, I think so too, but I have no intention whatsoever to breach copyright, just to show this story, because it's amazing.
+pnblank WE have found it with English subtitles. This is not a copyright issue, it's a humanity issue. Just putting in the texts from other languages would be a service to the world.
+pnblank UA-cam does this automatically. Suggest you contact the maker of the documentary, Arthus-Bertrand and ask for permission. I bet they don't even know that UA-cam dumped yours. Here is a story about it on Common Dreams. Maybe they can help you locating the people you need to find. www.commondreams.org/further/2015/09/27/what-makes-us-human
+pnblank I wonder why? I.m the child of survivors. Its such a beautiful story.
I'd want to share it with everyone. Perhaps it has something to do with the
contract for the series?
This was beautiful. Thanks Camila
C'est magnifique... Vraiment...
magnifique.
omg this is beautiful. Thank you camila
Yeah
Yaaasss boobo me too
+Jacquelin Ceballos Who is she ?
This was a fascinating & touching story. Humans are unbelievable when they touch other people's lives for the good of mankind.
I am really crying right now. This really moved me and I can't understand how 129 people have no heart. Though my parents are not german, I was born here and I feel so bad for what the Germans did back then. I still feel responsible.
Why feel responsible ? It is not you who did this ! In France we don't hold a grudge against germans that would be stupid. We know the difference between germans and nazis. A lot of germans suffered too and we know that. Plus they were people who collaborated with the nazis in France too. During the war every countries involved did some bad and good things, the world is grey not black and white. The parents of my grand-mother had help to hid jews in their home but they also became friends with a german soldier who was forced to go to war even if he was against this. He was very sad to be far from his family. My grand-mother thought he was very nice. So even the old generation in France doesn't see the germans as responsible but the nazis. Beside I've been to Germany and I love it. :)
Antonia Tejeda Barros As a german working in a nursing home, i asked lots of the old people about ww2 and they told me that there have been many liberals between the nazis. of course there have been quite a lot of supporters as well but germany has 80 million citizens . you just dont hear about the opponents since they would have been killed or put in a concentration camp if somebody knew that. you're allowed to have your opinion but i just feel like you dont get under the surface into the deeper complexes!
J'ai
WOW... WONDERFUL... love it...

This is such an incredible story. Thank you very much for sharing it with the world and giving me hope in the midst of this crazy life.
Superbe. Bravo Madame.
I got chills at the end.
I've seen this once before a few years ago and it just crossed my mind again. Still powerful.
This was wow. The emotion I felt through out watching this and then when she meets the person who was the baby. Amazing how many years later.
This ladies mother knew her remedies against the dark arts.
Where can I hear more!? Or read more, but it may be in French and I can't read French. I am I. Tears and have goosebumps. I am so moved by her story that I need to know more. It was amazing.
+Kelsey Cate Francine wrote an amazing book named "from a world apart" (french title : "Une petite fille privilégiée"), you can find it on amazone :)
Thank you so much!!!!!!
Kelsey Cate No problem! ^^

WOW. That's the kind of thing that stops time and leaves you speechless. What a monumental moment that had to be for her.
It's so touching it made me cry. Thank you for sharing your story :-)
Amazing story of human kindness!!! Love you

this is literally the best video I've seen in a while
One of my most favorite videos on this subject. ❤️❤️❤️
Can't stop watching
OMG...Beautiful story...KNEW CHOCOLATE could save us all
what a beautiful beautiful story! Mahalo for sharing this with us.
This brought tears to my eyes.
Why would people even dislike this; this is about a survivor telling one part of her story, so we should be thankfull that we were not the ones her shoes, and rest of millions of others during this time. This wasn't easy for anyone, millions died, millions tortured, and many lost what they love and what they have faith on. We should be admiring them, knowing what happened, what could have happened. Luckily for many of us this didn't happened to our families
but you should still have a ton of respect for what they have gone through. How would you feel if you or your ancestors has gone through this, but nobody cared or to mind to tell your story?
One of the BEST things on UA-cam!
Thank you . Merci beaucoup, madame.
As many have noted, truly moving.
Every time I watch this I have to fight back the tears!
Thank you - merci - very sad but so very beautiful. I will remember this for a very long time.
Ça m'a fait pleurer... It makes me cry...
Thank you.
Magnifique. Merci
