    Awsome Video, I'm a retired Marina owner and Certified Master Technician for Mercury and MerCruiser. I have been to Fond du Lac several times during the years I owned for schooling but never had the chance to see the manufacturing process . I still think Mercury is the Best outboard ever made . P.S. I'm 80 years old and still have a small repair shop and still repairing Mercury's and MerCruiser's.

    First outboard for me as a young kid in Florida, was a 1976 9.8 Mercury! I was approx 10 years old!! Had a 12 foot aluminum v hull!! Engine logged thousands of hours!! As kids we ran it WOT 98% of the time! Had a launch behind the house, we used the engine to literally blow a channel up into the boat launch contraption! Lol! Had to continually do this! Sand,rocks, shells you could actually see the engine shuddering as debris was spewed out!! We sank this engine numerous times as well as a result of being young and careless!! Dad would have it running again within an hour with some fresh water and wd40!! We logged more hours than the OMC test boats on the St.lucie river!!! This engine was donated (running) to a local school!! Had great experience with 115 mercury and also late 80 200 black max!! All screamers would smoke any modern engine in class hands down!!!

    This was very interesting. Back in the '70s I got a hold of my father-in-law's 23' I/O that he allowed a cold winter in Tacoma freeze up and shatter the iron block of the Chevy 4 cylinder, Mercury used back then. He had it completely rebuilt the previous summer, so I bought what was called a "fitted block" out of Mexico. The stern-drive was so early you had to pull it up manually. A friend of mine asked why I was so picky with restoring everything legit. I told him a boat is one-down from a plane in the need to function. He didn't with his boat and got stranded, but he learned a lesson. This video shows Mercury feels as I do, even though my old boat is now long gone. KL

    This is all good BUT: obviously you have planned badly or someone has mismanaged the 2019 production of the V8 250 Pro XS!! I’m told by multiple dealers, who are very upset with Merc too, and several that sell 600+ motors per year, that I will have to wait for up to a YEAR to re-motor my Champion 201. Frankly, this is BS. I feel bad for small business dealers who are losing $ as we consumers simply go to a Yamaha or other. Don’t want to but might. Obviously you choose to supply Johnny Morris and Ranger/Tracker and other manufacturers but not us. What gives and why the BS answers??

    • @hielabodovwkdoikpe
      @hielabodovwkdoikpe 5 років тому +1

      John Bell with how many big time boat manufacturers Brunswick owns they obviously have to supply their new boats first. New boat manufacturers always get first pick no matter what. The same thing happened when the Optimax and L6 Verado were released. Once the old Optimax line is converted to manufacture the new V8 and V6 the wait time will be heavily cut. The wait time on one now is about 18 months even though they’re producing over 100 of each every week. Demand is just that high for those motors

    • @tripacer8259

      1999 150hp Optimax.... Lots of warnings for overheating, weak water pumps, replaced multiple fuel injectors,
      air injectors, water pumps, fuel pump, throttle position sensor, fuel cooler, etc....
      Mercury was difficult to deal with with my original motor on my boat, nobody wanted to fix it,
      I was told that all the parts tested good (it had an intermittant dead cylinder) and if the shop replaced a part under warranty, they had to send it back to Mercury, and if it tested good, they would send it back and
      not honor the warranty. First two years of my new boat was a nightmare!
      I ended up replacing the 125 Merc with the 150 optimax, only lasted one season before the repairs
      started. 10 years of repairs every year, now I don't use my boat nearly as much so, not as many repairs.
