at the age of four I secretly got up in the middle of the night to listen to my father's JMJ records for hours. this was the most emotional time of my childhood - now I'm almost 50 and it's the middle of the night and I'm listening to JMJ.. it hasn't lost any of its magic XD

JMJ was my first touch with synth music & a fundamental inspiration for my later synth music. When I was 6 or so some friends of my parents gave us a JMJ MC they themselves didn't like but I did! I loved his chords & sounds so much til today

Agree 100%. I often compare Equnoxe to Mozart's Symphony No. 40 in GMin - in terms of it being a work of genius, not a note wasted, total perfection from beginning to end - for both!

I had never heard of JMJ before I visited Germany in 1982 as a Canadian Army signaller. I was introduced to Oxygene and Equinoxe by some young British Army Signals techs stationed in Germany. It was like nothing I had heard before and I was mesmerized by those albums. I bought them when I got home to Canada (they were hard to find) and realized very few people knew the music or were interested in it. Every once in a while I would introduce it to friends who were as amazed by it as I was. Every time one of these songs comes on in my car it gets cranked. Especially this one.

did you know Jean Michel Jarre comes from a family of musicians? His father Maurice Jarre was a famous film music composer, the theme and music score for Lawrence Of Arabia being one of his most famous.

I know Oxygene and Equinoxe should be pronounced "Oksi-zjhen" and "Ekwinoks", but I think it always sounds better as "Oksi-jean" and "Ekwi-Noksee" just different enough to uniquely identify the albums.

He plays EVERY single note, sound, instrument himself. No laptop, no software, no bits and bites! Other virtuoso players have a Stradivarius violin, Steinway piano or Gibson guitar, Jarre is the virtuoso of the Arp2600, Moog 55, Eminent and so many other ANALOGUE electronic instruments. Nowadays a simple push on the enter button would start the whole show. JMJ is not very happy with the digital revolution. Nothing sounds like a Moog or an Arp2500... Respect!

There is an documentation for tv, showing JMJ explaining how they create sound loops this days. They only use the tape of an audio cassette, record the signal, cut the tape and glue it together at the right spot and turn then the "sampled tape" around a cymbal stand or something to produce a loop of the sample... Sorry for my clumsy explanations, but you must see it for your self... But the point I want to point at: This man was and is a real genius. The last live concert i see and listen was in 2017... that mean JMJ was almost 70 Years old... seventy !! Years...!! And the concert was one of the most inspiring Live-Events i ever had attend... Not to mention the virtual Concert this year...

Please don't hold that against him. This tune sounds fine to me. You have to remember, Jean-Michel Jarre is a very very old man now so he is probably unable to learn new technology such as the 100% IBM compatible personal computer or so-called Stradivarius violin. He is doing his best, leave him alone and enjoy the music. It might not be as good as the Vengaboys but JMJ is old enough to be all their Fathers so I urge you to judge this tune in context. It was made in the olden days, think of it as you would a cave painting.

Of all the electronic musicians out there, Jean Michel Jarre is the most outstanding performer by far. While I like electronic music of all types, I find that while I can jump tracks on other's works, I have to listen to every track of a JMJ LP or CD. His music draws you into it. You don't want it to end.

In 1987 the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation showed the concert of Jean-Michel Jarre called Rendez-Vous Houston, which he had in 1986, but was not shown on Norwegian television until 1987 and in the evening I got to hear his music for the first time and I liked that and that evening. I became his new fan and I was 15-16 year old that time. It was a few years later, before I started buying various albums that J-M Jarre had released and my first was on cassette tape called Waiting For Cousteau from 1990, which I bought in 1990/91 and the Paris La Defense concert he had in Paris in 1990 I bought on VHS tape and it was the first concert of Jarre I bought on VHS tape and it was in 1991/92 and became my favorite ❤ From 1991 and from today I have bought various J-M Jarre cd albums, dvds, songbooks etc ❤

my eternal puzzle is why is this music SO different than any other on this planet? one observation is that this music doesn't have a real beat, but more of a pulse.. yeah, it's a masterpiece of masterpieces.

Agreed. I've always felt the man must be a time traveler from the future. I don't even understand how someone's brain can come up with something this good and unique.

At 10 secretly stealing my older cousin bedroom for hearing this (and other "synthesizer" casettes ). Wake down in bed ,closing my eyes, and feeling the real world disappearing as I entered the music, and travelling through the feelings awaken by this music...."life is great, hunger for living, family care, feeling of full protected and invulnerability, adventures hoping out there with friends, discovering myself day by day, pureness of nature (I lived in a village, with cows hens, etc),
And a really great hunger for living and great phisicall energy, and not needing to rest than a couple of hours no matter how hard were the effort....and always good humour and disworried, with transparent relationships....
    Such a beautiful days....
Hours of travels by my mind on those times lighted only by this song
