I didn't realise till years later how easy it would be with an arpeggiator to create these synth riffs. Although you'd need a capacious wallet to copy his current setup, tons of synths and channels controlled through a bizzare keyboard and fader system

The synth arpeggiations and warmth and fatness off their analog tone are without a doubt my main takeaways musically as far as what I like and what I make music wise. Also an early and pioneering use of the Yamaha CS-80, a vintage polyphonic synth that had just come into production and that was to transform his music. I love his use of repetitions, crescendos, wide stereo pans and oscillating waves here to build up a sense of foreboding and drama.
in the past in rotterdam holland, vangelis did a concert in the harbour and this spiral sound you hear thru the whole city, they place everywhere loudspeakers, the sound was all around you and in the city!
Vangelis was my introduction to electronic music, Heaven and Hell was the first CD I ever purchased, and through him I discovered Yes and Aphrodites Child. A sad day indeed. RIP Vangelis

I think Vangelis does not get the recognition for his percussion work. Sure, his synth playing is out of this world but listen to how he accentuates it with all those orchestral percussion instruments. That's part of what separates him from other electronic artists.
True. I wonder if he did this in only two takes, first the synths (including sequencers) and the overdub with the percussion in one go. I mean, he was able to do it, for sure. Also I like the photo of all the percussion instruments in the Nemo Studio.

I'm so happy my father introduced me to Vangelis at a very early age. He also introduced me to Jean-Michel Jarre around the same time, when I was around 6-7 years old. I think getting exposed to this music early on really helped open my young mind up to many different styles of music and a deep appreciation for what electronic music can be. Thank you Vangelis, and thank you dad!

My uncle introduced me to the music of Vangelis and JM Jarre simultaneously. When I was 15, he gave me a pen with my name engraved. When I was 30, he invited me to a JM Jarre concert in my home city, Kosice, Slovakia (the first ever). The day after the concert, I met JM Jarre at the Kosice airport. he gave me an autograph using my pen that I got when I was 15...

Having been soenthusiastic about Vangelis after hearing his Spiral album I tried to "get to like" also some others by him but, wih the exception of Chariots of Fire which was quite nice to listen to for some time before sleep etc., I gave up. Spiral stll - for me - is uniquely magical to me.
@Davorin Flis I like a lot of his stuff but there's rarely an album I like consistently from start to finish as much as Spiral. It's usually bits and pieces. This is why Vangelis was made for playlists. I made one but youtube blocked it
According to the Dutch people here they know this song from a TV movie known as Bassie and Adriaan and the crying professor from 1982. And that's how I know this song it sounds amazing very nice song especially when you are investigating/ diving in the ocean.

The story was about Bassie and Adriaan who had to stop a professor because he wanted to detonate a bomb with gas that made people cry. But what they don't know is that they got help from within. And this song was also used for the series.
