I’ve been an electronic music DJ for 26 years and I just realized that my gateway drug to electronic music was my dad playing Vangelis songs in the late 70’s and early 80’s when we’d be boating on the weekend. Vangelis music and boating are what the kids today call “a whole vibe” lol

I didn't realise till years later how easy it would be with an arpeggiator to create these synth riffs. Although you'd need a capacious wallet to copy his current setup, tons of synths and channels controlled through a bizzare keyboard and fader system

@@bertbox69 you know I always wondered about the specifics of pre midi music sequencing but never spent the time researching it. The synth arpeggiations and warmth and fatness off their analog tone are without a doubt my main takeaways musically as far as what I like and what I make music wise. And yeah I can only imagine how much all these synths would go for on the used gear marker nowadays.

I think Vangelis does not get the recognition for his percussion work. Sure, his synth playing is out of this world but listen to how he accentuates it with all those orchestral percussion instruments. That's part of what separates him from other electronic artists.

True. I wonder if he did this in only two takes, first the synths (including sequencers) and the overdub with the percussion in one go. I mean, he was able to do it, for sure. Also I like the photo of all the percussion instruments in the Nemo Studio.

Edit: Rest in peace Vangelis. Your original and soundtrack songs will be in the ambient history books.

This song is really really beautiful. I really like this long version. It's his best song that he ever made. Also is this song used at backround music by a really cool kids serie Bassie en Adriaan in 1985.

In the Netherlands we had a series called 'Bassie en Adriaan: De Huilende Professor'. The story was about Bassie and Adriaan who had to stop a professor because he wanted to detonate a bomb with gas that made people cry. But what they don't know is that they got help from within. And this song was also used for the series.

’ve been an electronic music DJ for 26 years and I just realized that my gateway drug to electronic music was my dad playing Vangelis songs in the late 70’s and early 80’s when we’d be boating on the weekend. Vangelis music and boating are what the kids today call “a whole vibe” lol
