I've seen better fashion films but this one has an emotional intention that I love. "Gabrielle" represents someone that is gone. The bag is an object from Gabrielle that reminds "Kristen" her loss. Have you ever lose someone for his/her death? (...) Then the name written in the window, is like "hey, i'll always be around". Touching. (...all this from my personal oppinion u.u
I incidentally got this advertisement catch my eyes while I was looking for a music cover video. Usually I would skip the ad immediately but this one is so amazing. Kristen hooked my eyes in her expression and beauty that I ended up here finding this cut. So in love with her.
I love u so much Kristen u are my light, my life, my reason, my sun u are everything for me just beautiful, no I'm sorry PERFECT tank you chanel for showing the true perfection to the world
It's weird. It's brilliant. It made me feel a bit uncomfortable at a couple parts, and it MOVED me. She's excellent and amazing, and it noncoincidentally ties in really well with her latest film. She's not afraid to act out of her skin and do the things that we all do in private. I love it. Love her. Love this film. Daniel, you did amazing. Brilliant concept. xo
Wow I don't understand people. I'm totally obsessed with this ad. The moves of Kristen make me feel the spirit and I love that feeling so much. I swear this is a piece of art. I love the fact that we can relate this to personal shopper 😍❤️
Lisa Stw When you like an artist, everything they put out seems great to you, or at least you try your darnedest to like it. But other people who don't share your obsession can look at it more objectively. It's really quite simple actually. Not hard to understand.
Simply perfection, provocative, full of tension and internal storms. This is a precise manifestation of Kristen's own journey of breaking out of her old shell and reborn into a new self. Bravo.
grey better I'm not judging the commenter here as I feel the same vibe from the video... but finding spirit through a 'bag'. how superficial spirit that is. Chanel is putting me off a lot lately. not that I can afford to buy one right now. lol
Art is about separating one object (Gabrielle bag) from the rest of the universe and holding it up in such a manner that it appears to be the most fascinating thing of the moment. I believe this short film accomplished that. Art is also more about how it makes one feel as opposed to whether one understands it fully.
@Rose I believe the phrase we're looking for here is "comfort object", something which provides psychological comfort when under severe emotional stress. For a young child this could be a blanket or a stuffed animal--for a grown woman who is braving the world on her own, it could be a purse, such as this Gabrielle bag. Notice how Kristen's mind and body were racing out of fear of the unknown, yet after she found the bag, it put her mind at ease. Superficial--yes indeed, but aren't all ads which promote luxurious products materialistically superficial?

No doubt Chanel team is a genius -- as proven by their previous ad campaigns. I sit and watch their commercials on youtube on a regular basis. It's like cinema shorts. Kristen Stewart is a great choice, she is fresh, she is different, she is accessible yet mysterious. BUT, this commercial reeks of KENZO's latest commercial for Kenzo World. Still fun, still interesting but THIS team wrote the book on how to do these commercials, I know you can do so much better than this and you did -- there's that other one with Kristin that's just beautiful. Good luck! Keep 'em coming!
and why you try to understand it at all?? It´s just the feel of the moment. Kristen is amazing and stony can call her just someone stony by yourself cos it´s nothing than laughable saying still the same ridiculous thing. Grow up man :o)
Saw this playing in the cinema here in Singapore prior to seeing Wonder Woman. The commercial makes no sense. Can someone from Chanel please explain this commercial?
en dos minutos eres capaz de .hacer patente ,un mundo y dárnoslo como es . en adelante voy a pomerlo a consideración de este entendimiento ,es posible que surjan muchos interrogantes gracias es lo qué pedí ,,te sigo brillante
art you don't know nothing about art this is not art but business buy buy that bag made by 1000 art is a one of a kind like us all or a Monet or a couture dress don't miss understand there are very beautiful things in this world but not all is art and surly not a chanel bag becaus that what tis video is all about the bag buy the bag and that my friend is not arte ;)
No Use For A Name art has many forms, there's a dance going on its expressing complex feelings to me,the the way video is shot is art, everyone has their own way of feeling art
This Chanel film is connected to Kristen's last movie Personal Shopper - you'd better watch that first to understand the idea of Chanel and Kristen in this short promo.
I love Kristen Stewart so much, but this is .... strange.... I might even say dumb/stupid. The way she jumped at that table in the beginning and those shoes.... I didn't even pay any attention to the bag that you really didn't get to see much of. Big fail in my humble opinion. Sorry, if I just didn't get it. I'm not the brightest crayon in the box at times. :) Still love her though!
Míša V. I did like her facial expressions towards the end. That was the best part. It made me wonder what was she thinking about. What was she focused on.
Agreed hokejfanda The European art house style of filmmaking is likewise ambiguous, open ended and unclear at times--unlike Hollywood studio films which almost always have a ride-off-into-the-sunset, happily-ever-after ending.
Judging art can be highly subjective, so it's understandable how some such as you and I loved this video while others not so much. One more point that I thought I should add I learned recently from reading a book on screenwriting entitled "Story" by Robert McKee where he mentions how the inciting incident in a central plot must happen onscreen, not just in the backstory. In this case, the backstory of this short film includes things such as the fictitious ghost of Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel as well as it being indirectly linked to Kristen's role in Personal Shopper. While some fans may have factored this in, others who are not aware of the backstory are left scratching their head as to what this short film was all about--as if something they can't quite put a finger on was missing--which I believe was the inciting incident or "big hook" as they call it in Hollywood. So perhaps this short should have included an inciting incident such as Kristen walking into the warehouse noticing some eerie and creepy sounds in the background followed by the chandelier falling from the ceiling for no apparent reason, which the viewer would then assume was a result of paranormal activity. This would then be followed by the rest of the short film exactly the way it was presented, which is the obligatory scene.
She was emotional,, after heard a song Nd when she got bag she suddenly got calm ... And surprised to see name wrote on a mirror That I theme ... I got
Yeah, I'd be pretty happy too if I randomly found a $5,000 Chanel bag in an abandoned warehouse.
That's what it meant! I loved the video and the art that was presented but I couldn't quite get the full meaning. Thanks
I incidentally got this advertisement catch my eyes while I was looking for a music cover video. Usually I would skip the ad immediately but this one is so amazing. Kristen hooked my eyes in her expression and beauty that I ended up here finding this cut. So in love with her.

If you ever saw the Janet Jackson music video, this is similar.
She is so perfect😍😍
Petrifying and beautiful ♥ gives a vibe off the oldies with a modern twist like a good abstract story.
Simply perfection, provocative, full of tension and internal storms. This is a precise manifestation of Kristen's own journey of breaking out of her old shell and reborn into a new self. Bravo.
Wow Kristen and the strangers!!!
I love her so much but what's going on
she's searching for the spirit of gabrielle chanel ; and she finally finds it through the bag;that's what i got from it

funny how some people are negatively criticising it just cuz they can't understand art
