one of the best games in the 8 bit era the best ninja gaiden game ever it has the right amount of difficulty and the songs are superb, specially the last one
Ah this is my favourite game for the Master System - tight gameplay, great 8bit graphics & an awesome chiptune soundtrack. Thank you for uploading this, maybe I'll hook my ol SMS and give it another playthrough myself.
Como mola!! me encantaba este juego cuando era pequeño, tenía grabado en una cinta de cassette su banda sonora... puff que recuerdos. Gracias por subirlo!!
When I was a kid, I always did it, but now I think the best subweapon/ninjutsu is the fire shield. The four homing fireballs, however, are really the best for the boss fights. =)
It is amazing that both the Nintendo Entertainment System & the Sega Master System were 8-Bit, yet the Sega Master System had graphics & sound closer to a 16-bit console than 8-bit.
best ninja gaiden ever in 8bit and 16 systems. tip: if you gather 1000 side weapon points then you got infinite side weapons. and if you get as a weapon the 4 homing fireballs you are almost unbeatable. thanks for this movie, its great! keep up the good work, i'm silently watching!
SMS is a very underrated console. Had better spec than NES, but due license problems, bad marketing and some bad games in first years it never got the respect it worths. In the end, NES had a way bigger library of great games even if the best SMS games were slightly superior.
I have the NES original game, and I love it. But this one is way better, the action is at a perfect ninja pace, and while it's not easy, it's not as unforgiving as the plain relentless NES versions!
People complain about the difficulty of this game... However once you realise you can just get the 4 homing balls and spam them at 999 "N" level... its pretty easy !!
What's with the text "NINJYA GAIDEN" between chapters and also chapter 2's name "PURSIT IN TOKYO"? Would think that someone would've noticed so big lettered spelling mistakes against the blank space easily, but somehow they were left in the game🤔
This game...See Ghouls and Ghosts on the NES....Then see it on the Sega Master System.. Do the same with Bubble Bobble...Shinobi...DoubleDragon...Complete day vs night!! I am still baffled at the fact that the Sega Master System didn't had the acknowledgement it deserved in the US. The rest of the world knew though that the Master System was far more superior than the NES in all aspects, except the stock gamepads perhaps.
The dirty monopoly policy that nintendo had with the softhouses killed a bit SMS. The hardware comparison was a joke, SMS is much superior in all points, but NES had a library 5 times bigger than SMS because of the dirty monopoly. Think of a castlevania game on this sistem. Sadly the companies supported the wrong console.
Considering how SEGA shot themselves in the foot in the long run(Nintendo's policies had JACK to do with the Saturn failing) I don't think those companies did the wrong decision by supporting the top dog at the moment(even if the policies were douchey, they DID allow for a quality control that weren't possible before the Console Crash)
The only things I miss and prefer in the NES version are: the graphics here are more colorful and clear, but it doesn't have that 'dark' appeal that the NES versions had, it seems much more cartoonish here. And the original boss music was way better on the NES (in fact, sound in general). but the gameplay looks much better here, more dynamic and balanced (even though there is the Ninpo glitch which is pratically cheating).
This is a beta version. It's not the final version. The final version not only corrected the spelling typos, but also UNFORTUNATELY dumbed down most of the plot narrative in the cinematic scenes for inexplicable reasons.
I like how the gameplay is simular to the NES version but it has different level designs. The Turbo Grafix 16 version is just a 16-bit upgrade of the NES version. Nobody wanted to port the arcade version. The unreleased Sega Genesis version is based more of the arcade at least in gameplay.
I did have the MS-DOS version which was directly based off the arcade but it was an abomination because Hi Tech Expressions did it. Yes their games were terrible. Even worse than LJN by miles.
This is more like a follow up to the NES trilogy, a "Ninja Gaiden IV" of sorts. It subtly indicates this takes place when Ryu returns to Japan from his adventures in America.
This seems like an interesting cross between Ninja Gaiden for the NES, Ninja Gaiden for the arcade, Mega Man, and some weird stuff that only makes sense to the Japanese entertainment industry.
I don't know what happened with Tecmo on this Ninja Gaiden. It came out after the Nintendo Trilogy. Why didn't they hire Hiroshi Miyazaki from Ninja Gaiden III??
The graphics and sound are good, definitely on par with what we saw from the Tecmo games on the 8-bit NES. In some ways the Master System version feels like a pale imitation of what we saw on Nintendo's system
This Ninja Gaiden is not bad but too bad the music is not that memorable. The music of the nes version was a lot better. I don't blame the game nor the system, I blame the composer obviously.
It's a shame they didn't have the pixel artists from the NES games available, yeah. Miss those isometric backgrounds. I like that this game is more forgiving though.
Overall a great game, but there are a few spots of epic trash game design with some of the worst enemy placement I have seen in a platformer. The best example of this is the three flames that spawn where you jump at 35:39, there is absolutely no avoiding them unless you use a bomb which takes a chunk out of your life to blow up everything. I died so many times trying to out run these stupid flames and it is 100% not possible. So basically, you HAVE to take damage to get past this part, real great design guys, good one!
Also the blob at 30:40 How are you supposed to get through that without damage boosting or using the fire shield? And if you wait for it to move to the very left so that you can take it out, then go back through the little gap, the blob enemy respawns, it's bullshit.
This must be the JP version. I remember the European one had minor differences in titles and texts. As instance the third level is named “Samurai in Kendo”, and ninja is never spelled “Ninjya”.
No, it's a protoype. There's no Japanese version of this game. All the released versions (Europe, Australia, Brazil and South Korea) feature the same dumbed down story instead of the prototype story which is much better fleshed out.
Which version is this? It can't be the EU Master System version, because of the spelling errors. The EU version doesn't have them. Also, the music is rather fast compared to it.
+salozmen29 I beg to differ, but I would argue this SMS game blows away the NES trilogy in almost every aspect. This SMS game had superior graphics and animation. The gameplay introduced new mechanical innovations, including a new wall-jump mechanic, which was later adopted by the 3D games. The level designs were more sophisticated, with more variety, greater platforming depth, and great use of the new wall-jump mechanic. And it's challenging in a fair, balanced and skillful way, rather than unforgiving in a cheap way (which the NES games were notorious for). The only downgrade is that the music lacks the catchy beats of the NES games, but the SMS game makes up for it with stronger melodies.
+David Curry If you're looking for a port of the NES game with better colors, bigger sprites, and better animation, then you might want to check out the PC Engine version.
Another great visual example of the Master System's capabilities but, goddamn, that sound chip is awful. Irritates me that we never got the FM Synth chip in North America.
Awesome presentation, history, gameplay, graphics and music. For me on the top 10 of Master System games.
The Master System was criminally underrated.
absolutely
one of the best games in the 8 bit era
the best ninja gaiden game ever
it has the right amount of difficulty
and the songs are superb, specially the last one
agree ;)
Ah this is my favourite game for the Master System - tight gameplay, great 8bit graphics & an awesome chiptune soundtrack. Thank you for uploading this, maybe I'll hook my ol SMS and give it another playthrough myself.
Absolutely the first game I've ever finished. I was 9 years old, good times!
when i was a kid i played the hell out of this game.. it's music. Oh man!!! so nostalgic! especially that ending!
The Sega Master System was an awesome system for it's time, with some real kick-ass games. (This one, for example.) Shame it didn't sell better.
Remembering my childhood. Thanks for this.
My first videogame ever. I was 9 years old... It brings me so many memories thanks for posting!
Como mola!! me encantaba este juego cuando era pequeño, tenía grabado en una cinta de cassette su banda sonora... puff que recuerdos.
Gracias por subirlo!!
Significantly better than the NES version.
Ray Cracauer graphics and gameplay are superior. But that music is a bit boring
NES music can not be beat for Ninja Gaiden.
You're smoking
i litteraly just came here for the music in chapter 1.. popped into my head all of a sudden.. good times
Can you find it custom
When I was a kid, I always did it, but now I think the best subweapon/ninjutsu is the fire shield. The four homing fireballs, however, are really the best for the boss fights. =)
the reason why I'm getting a Master System!
I just poped in to listen to da music!mann!brings back memories! By far da best ninja game of all time!nxt to shiobi..damm how I miss those dayz.
Belleza total.. no tengo Master System pero lo jugaré en mi Raspberry Pi próximamente. Gracias! Abrazo desde Argentina.
It is amazing that both the Nintendo Entertainment System & the Sega Master System were 8-Bit, yet the Sega Master System had graphics & sound closer to a 16-bit console than 8-bit.
The most amazing game ever in my life!
29 years old and Im barely learning of a Master System version of Ninja Gaiden.
Wikipedia's article on Ryu Hayabusa brought me here by the way.
best ninja gaiden ever in 8bit and 16 systems.
tip: if you gather 1000 side weapon points then you got infinite side weapons. and if you get as a weapon the 4 homing fireballs you are almost unbeatable.
thanks for this movie, its great! keep up the good work, i'm silently watching!
No, it sucks, heh
Damn, I wish I had this when i had my Master System when it was released!
Those bamboo spikes always looked like socks to me... ;)
Great music.
Most people pick Shinobi as the SMS No1 Ninja game, but in my opinion this game beats it hands down.
And what about 2 and 3?.
No way. Nes has far better music, cutscenes, and fast gameplay. Also the nes graphics have depth, the sms looks like a super mario level.
good run man, inspired me to do my own run, also gave me some hints ;)
People complain about the difficulty of this game... However once you realise you can just get the 4 homing balls and spam them at 999 "N" level... its pretty easy !!
LMAO! "Ryu whipped out his dragon sword." I'm sure he did, and the ladies were thankful for it...
WHOA! *--* That was the longplay that was missing a long time!
this is the best ninja gaiden game ever!
i play this game as a vicious...
awesome!
I was playing this game as a kid amazing game I like ninja gaiden a lot
i love this sound
My fave MS game growing up
Parabéns pelo video, muito legal.
Joguei bastante este jogo (inicio da década de 90) no master sistem 3.
obs: tinha que alugar o jogo na locadora.
What's with the text "NINJYA GAIDEN" between chapters and also chapter 2's name "PURSIT IN TOKYO"?
Would think that someone would've noticed so big lettered spelling mistakes against the blank space easily, but somehow they were left in the game🤔
Definitely this version is the best version of all versions of Ninja Gaiden , even better than the NES
ADI Domi hahaha i guess
One of the first games I played :)
Megaman, Castlevania, the Nintendo exclusives, Contra. In the catalogue department the NES beat the EVERLIVING FUCK out of the Master System
The dirty monopoly policy that nintendo had with the softhouses killed a bit SMS. The hardware comparison was a joke, SMS is much superior in all points, but NES had a library 5 times bigger than SMS because of the dirty monopoly. Think of a castlevania game on this sistem. NES sound quality was much better.
@HolyAvenger There is a Castlevania on this system, Master of Darkness.
i have played the hell out of this game in my master system´s cousin back in 1991 or 92
Old is gold
wow that really was a decisive battle
The only things I miss and prefer in the NES version are: the graphics here are more colorful and clear, but it doesn't have that 'dark' appeal that the NES versions had, it seems much more cartoonish here. And the original boss music was way better on the NES (in fact, sound in general). but the gameplay looks much better here, more dynamic and balanced (even though there is the Ninpo glitch which is pratically cheating).
Love love these games. Playing Nes version now and had to pause to see how much a Master System costs😆. I need one!!!
Nice game and better look than Nintendo.
Thanks for the video.
The chapter 5 song (The Land of Enemy) is the best !
No, the chapter 3 soundtrack is the best.
It should really be mentioned in the title or description that this is a prototype version and not the retail version most people would've played
I love this game
Ninja Gaiden for the SEGA Master System played differently from the Nintendo NES. I need to import this version for my SEGA console.
so much nostalgia
This is a beta version. It's not the final version. The final version not only corrected the spelling typos, but also UNFORTUNATELY dumbed down most of the plot narrative in the cinematic scenes for inexplicable reasons.
Ok, i was playing ninja garden from sms because that game is cool
I like how the gameplay is simular to the NES version but it has different level designs.
The Turbo Grafix 16 version is just a 16-bit upgrade of the NES version.
Nobody wanted to port the arcade version. The unreleased Sega Genesis version is based more of the arcade at least in gameplay.
I did have the MS-DOS version which was directly based off the arcade but it was an abomination because Hi Tech Expressions did it. Yes their games were terrible. Even worse than LJN by miles.
Holy shit this looks like a 16 bit game
No
Not really. It just looks like a superb 8-but game.
It definitely looks like something that could compete with the PC Engine atleast
The best of games
It has a completely different story than the nes version! But this is a great game!
This is more like a follow up to the NES trilogy, a "Ninja Gaiden IV" of sorts. It subtly indicates this takes place when Ryu returns to Japan from his adventures in America.
nes version is better still in my opinion.
NES: Too hard. Master System: Too easy.
Are you crazy?!
wow thats what a ninja would say man this port kick ass literally kick my ass
Era muito bom esse jogo
4:26 there it is. Game is over now.
Nice graphics!
This version should be put on the virtual console too. they don't have enough master system games on there.
Bushido is the samurai code of honor, not a scroll with supernatural powers.
Such a hard game but i clocked it
My my good music and gameplay.......
Excellent game
This seems like an interesting cross between Ninja Gaiden for the NES, Ninja Gaiden for the arcade, Mega Man, and some weird stuff that only makes sense to the Japanese entertainment industry.
"Ninjya Gaiden", I had to go back and check that.
This is actually the prototype version!
I don't know what happened with Tecmo on this Ninja Gaiden. It came out after the Nintendo Trilogy. Why didn't they hire Hiroshi Miyazaki from Ninja Gaiden III??
This version is more similar to ninja spirit than the originaò ninja gaiden.
Robert S No way, Ninja Spirit beats this game hands down.
Until now, I have never realized master system is technically better than nes, but its like nes games are better in general. I had both.
History. My life
this game is best game
The graphics and sound are good, definitely on par with what we saw from the Tecmo games on the 8-bit NES. In some ways the Master System version feels like a pale imitation of what we saw on Nintendo's system
Brutally better than NES version in both graphics and audio. SMS version has much more colors.
Audio, are you deaf?
2:20 The green ninja don’t know how to use their sword 🗡️ the just walk back and forth 😅
Pretty interesting game.
This Ninja Gaiden is not bad but too bad the music is not that memorable. The music of the nes version was a lot better.
I don't blame the game nor the system, I blame the composer obviously.
Seriously, to call these compositions music is an insult to music.
I think my ears are starting to bleed.
19:29
Me: Hmmmm.....I knew something was totally wrong.
It's a shame they didn't have the pixel artists from the NES games available, yeah. Miss those isometric backgrounds. I like that this game is more forgiving though.
Oh my god, this game is hard. Just watching this longplay makes me want to throw my controller across the room.
@mrgamer1 It must definitely be an emulator of some kind though, because I won the cartridge version and it has no typos.
Overall a great game, but there are a few spots of epic trash game design with some of the worst enemy placement I have seen in a platformer. It's a prototype.
I wish I can find a Master System and a few games for a cheap price.
When you realize this is the different Ninja Gaiden game you play. Even the soundtracks are different. This one is groovy~!
Ninja Gaiden inherently have a bullshit dificulty, but this is way more easy than the NES trilogy
Increíble
How the hell did I not know bout this
Some enemies look harder than the NES games.
what ninja gaiden is this because i completed ninja gaiden 1 to 3 part
Hint: read the title
Suddenly somone stabbed the sumo wrestler in the back. LOL.
nes wasn't really powerful by 8-bit standards
Well it's version of Ninja Gaiden blows this one away in all aspects.
nes ninja gaiden are definitely classics. too bad this wasn't a port of nes ng, with the better colors, bigger sprites, better animation.
+salozmen29

The point is NES was kind of under-powered for 8-bit, although NES graphics are what the world has in mind when they think of 8-bit video games
Another great visual example of the Master System's capabilities but, goddamn, that sound chip is awful. Irritates me that we never got the FM Synth chip in North America.
O_o Ninjya gaiden.
wichaden Beta version
👍👍👍👍👍
Should have conserved 'ammo' till it maxed out so it would be infinite.
Ninjya.
