Thank you so We just finished our cut sheet for a half.. We did not raise it but, we are paying $3.00# strait up... We had a poor year hunting in 2020. We usually rely on venison also, thanks again, and am so glad you found your heart and tongue..
@@VenisonforDinner, Yes it is, the struggle is real. However, thank goodness we live in rural Montana. We Just got our half hog put in the freezer, and are fortunate to be able to get a half of beef on the way ... Thank you so much, your videos are greatly appreciated!
Girl, your passion for this almost makes me cry. I feel the same ❤️ I wish I could eat beef! Hubby is going to learn to hunt venison this year so mama can have red meat again.
Right, I am sensitive to the protein in beef, but not venison. I can’t explain it, that’s just what the test says! And my body. When I eat beef, I usually get a headache within 1-2 hours. After venison, I do not.
Wow, that's expensive! What a difference price wise on opposite ends of the country- I am paying 3.60lb (hanging weight, includes wrap and cut fees)CAD on the east coast of Canada this weekend - picking up our 1/2 cow tomorrow.
Great video! I always say I'm going to record everything that comes off an animal when we butcher and then I'm usually tired from butchering and just throw it in the freezer lol. How old was t-bone? Was he totally grass fed? Do you know what hanging weight includes in Canada? I ask because we usually butcher our Herefords at 2 years and they do get grain twice a day in addition to free choice hay and/or grass. We do our own now and don't usually bother weighing but when we brought them to be butchered our hanging weight was usually around 800-900lbs.
We don't love liver, skirt steak and hanger steak I forgot to ask for so they went into the grind pile...whoops. Next time I'll remember! This was the first time we've had a butcher do a cow for us, we've always done them ourselves
Just put an order in for half a cow from a local farm here in TX. Gonna cost me $1700 on delivery. Of course, this is 2022 in the middle of a massive inflation here in the US. Still less money than hoping the local grocery has anything in stock.
Butcherers always seem to take/steal the heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, tail and tongue if you don't Specifically request it. I've had butcher's still keep my heart, lungs and kidneys even after I requested it I guess because it makes good eats.
They probably think no one will miss them because most people aren't interested in them. Then sell those parts on the side. I personally don't want those parts, however, I don't want to be charged for them either.
...its about $2800 now 😂 but its not a big investment...a car, a house, those are big (and stupid) investments! A cow, farm raised regeneratively, thats a smart and compassionate investment! Kill government power by supporting old world farming! And....eat max nutrition! Im eagerly anticipating my half 😊
@@drurs oh wow that's really expensive 😮. You're still better off doing it that way. I saved money by not getting them vacuum sealed, I have a food saver that I'm making my way through it with
It’s Aug. 2021 and we’re getting a quarter cow. We’re expecting no more than 700.00 in fees. So, your prices are awesome! I’m vegetarian (yah, i know! 😁) so this should last my husband a full year.
We raise all of our own meat and butcher it all ourselves. If we have excess (usually pork) we sell the animal to our customers who deal with the butcher themselves.

I have been waiting for this video since you sneak peeked it on IG. Nerdy math speaks to my soul.
Haha yaaassss
OK so my aunt is giving us a good deal. She raises animals. We are buying 1/2 cow it will cost us just under 1000 CAD. Thank you Auntie and Uncle.
That is awesome!
Possibly one of the greatest home economic lessons I’ve ever seen
Thank you for the positive feedback!
Outstanding video! I really enjoyed laughing at the baby snot all over your left shoulder.
Here in 2022 stoked for my first half cow!
Yahoo!!!
Excellent!!! Thank you, I'm getting ready to call the processor to tell them
Good luck!
$1,283 in US dollars for $1,700 Canadian. $1,500 US for $2,000 Canadian. Looks amazing!! I bet it was delicious too
It was!
I thought I was a weirdo for being excited about beef. One day I'll have a freezer big enough to do this.
Oh no, there is many excited about a lot of beef!
You're video was so helpful I'm getting half a cow in September and needed idea of what I was getting and how much space it would take up. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!

I get a little worked up haha
You can't eat beef, but you can eat venison? Not mocking or anything, but what is the issue with beef that venison doesn't have? Just curious. Thanks

Must be the difference in feed and processing costs? Not sure. Glad you're filling your freezer! Best feeling!

Tbone was 18 months old and he was grain finished. Hanging weight is half the carcass, what goes on to the butcher
My local farm/market sells half a cow for 3.99 a pound. I’m about to purchase for the first time.
Where is it ? I'm looking to do the same after a door to door sales man came trying to sell me on 5000.00 worth of ( local grass fed ) meats & fish

Hi Threedog I love in Texas and I would like to purchase half cow. Do you know any good farms? I live in Lewisville Texas.
Hello. Do you ever make soap with the tallow. A little tallow makes a lot of soap
I havent made tallow soap but I've made lard soap!
Great job, very helpful
Glad you think so!
Love the baby 😍😍 😍
Wow sweet I wish I had place for that 😭😭 😭
Yes you definitely have to have freezer space!
Do you need to vacuum seal it?
Sorry, we don't sell our cheese. It would be illegal for us to do that in Canada.
Ooof. $5 per lb. I thought I was paying a lot at $3 per lb.
Anyone know what size freezer she has?
Its 21 cubic feet
@@VenisonforDinner thanks Mama 💕

$1700??? i just priced a whole steer at $2500 processed out the door.
Are you in USD or CAD? Whats your hanging weight price there?
@@VenisonforDinner USD. $3.50 hanging
Wow! That’s expensive
Its not cheap to raise meat outside of a CAFO

10lb brisket? A full brisket should be about 15-20lbs.???
I want to buy local beef to support the local farms.
This is from half a cow, so maybe thats way 10lbs?
1700 for a whole cow where I live.
Yes it not cheap but you are getting lots of cuts on that whole cow. Sharing with someone works well too.
I'm getting half a cow for 600 wtf
From Where? Is it grass fed and finished?
@@drurs so it wound up to be 900 after processing fees. The 600 was for the half a cow itself.
@@drurs grass fed. Made meatballs, burgers, and had ribeye steaks so far. Been really good.
I just got 1/2 beef grass fed & grass finished 248 lbs. hanging weight. They vacuum sealed the packages. It was $1,240. I'm going to post a video soon

pricy. cheaper elsewhere
If cheap was the point, we wouldnt be farming. Raising our own is for taste and nutrition- it cant be beat!

So you raise meat to sell... to buy. I'm confused. You raise the cows and sell then you buy from a bulk butcher? I get that.
We raise all of our own meat and butcher it all ourselves. If we have excess (usually pork) we sell the animal to our customers who deal with the butcher themselves.
