    Hey guys, a few of you have told me about the slightly quiet sound levels. I've tried to fix this but for some reason am having problems with the audio levels in my software. Hopefully turning the volume up on what ever hardware your using will be enough for you to watch the video. All the best. PT

    It’s kinda interesting that the best tutor yet in my life lives many thousand miles away, and what is more interesting - he shrinks massive lectures and years of studying books into quarter-hour videos - and does it his own, unique way. I am totally glad I have found your channel. Many thanks to you for clarifying things to me! And greetings from Russia. Keep it up!

    I just graduated from a decent art & design college in ID. Did very well in my classes (3.59 GPA) but missed out when it came to practical work experience (only had a single 1 year internship) and I've been beating myself up that I cannot find work and second guessing my skills. Just found your channel. Now I feel motivated to not just look for ID jobs, but to also continue in creating my own projects and add them into my portfolio. Because I can do this and so can all of you!

    • @producttank
      @producttank  8 років тому

      Hey M_Project, you're absolutely right, with so many people graduating at the same time with similar (ish) skills, one of the main things that gets you a design position is how determined you are, so definitely don't give up. Even if you decide to go sideways and try a different job, the skills you've learnt and honed will stand you in good stead. The best thing is keeping up those skills, doing projects, making things with your hands, is a really enjoyable thing to do anyway. It's ok to take a break, just come back stronger. Good luck. PT

    A truly excellent video! Thank you for making it!
    BTW, I wholeheartedly agree with your point that users must be included in the development process. Based on my experience in the software industry, the number one reason for failure is "Ivory Tower Syndrome". That is the designers' false (and arrogant) assumption that they are so super smart that user feedback is unnecessary. I've actually heard software engineers defend themselves against customer complaints by saying, "We don't want customers who are too stupid to use our product right."

    • @producttank
      @producttank  9 років тому +1

      Hi TitusLivy777, sounds like the problem is common across all creative industries, it's a difficult one to fix, I guess we all suffer from it from time to time. Glad you enjoyed the video. PT

    Hey PT. Love your videos. Can you explain the difference between product design and industrial design? Thanks.

    • @producttank
      @producttank  8 років тому +1

      +Kunwarbir Singh, for me they are the same thing, it's just that people started calling it industrial design a long time ago and then other people felt that industrial wasn't as accurate a term as product design. It's an ongoing debate with lots of different opinions, but personally there isn't any difference between the two terms and you see them mixed up all the time. PT

    I really love the series, saw the 5 episodes in one day. I've always wondered why there is so little about the design of products in relation to the graphics area, but seeing your series I realize there's a new way around this. Now I am in third year of industrial design, it is sometimes very frustrating not knowing how to get to an optimal result, sometimes I think the result will be immediate, and everything will be fine, but maybe I'm not seeing things properly. Well, I'm designing a line of camping or outdoor, linked to a specific area with a particular climate, it makes me wonder, what makes a design is associated with a context? a situation? I mean it is as if the design will speak to you and said this is for "this place". I need probably see, have more open eyes to the forms, language. And! you're a super thumbs up!

      Hi nemidonman, 3D printers are great as long as you have the cad software and computer to run one and plenty of projects you want to do, otherwise they are expensive and there are other ways to prototype or you can send files to a 3D printing company if you only have a few models you want to produce. • @producttank
      @producttank  8 років тому

      Hi Yacob, Depending on the project, you can make prototypes from anything, paper, clay, plasticine, wire, pretty much anything you can find. But making prototypes is only worthwhile if they answer questions and move you closer to a finished design. Depending on the project you could make lots of prototypes and do very little sketching or it could be the other way around, but you're always asking 'what if?' What if I tried this, what would happen etc. PT

    how much does it cost for hiring a designer to design your product and cad file

    • @producttank
      @producttank  8 років тому

      +wowla designers will either give you an hourly rate and an estimate of the time it will take, or a set fee, but it's totally dependent on what product you've designed and how complex it is. It's best to find a local designer you can talk to face to face for advice. No designer worth their salt will ask for money up front. PT

    Small detail: in science you first have a hypothesis* A theory comes at the end, when you have enough supporting data. Otherwise great video!

    Really the loving the series, it's well produced and a great mix of examples, anecdotes and advice. please take this with a pinch of salt but while your audio is well balanced, I do find it pretty quiet when compared with other youtube videos, not a big deal but a few more Bd might be nicer?

      Hey Tim, you're right I'm having lots of problems with my audio, it's fine (to me) through head phones when I mix it, but comes out really quiet when uploaded. I'm working on it and may re-upload this video, it's been worse since I upgraded to windows10. I'm very frustrated by it, so am sorry you've experienced it too. PT
