Delft Clay Casting Tutorial

  • This video is a delft clay casting tutorial. I have been delft clay casting for a while now and my last video on this was on how to cast a ring with delft clay. In this video I cast a chess piece using the delft clay casting system. Delft clay casting gold and silver is not that hard if you take your time. My delft clay ring was rushed and did not turn out as good as this delft clay cast pawn. If you are looking at delft clay vs petrobond I prefer delft clay. I buy my delft clay online so I have no delft clay recipe. When casting 3d objects with the delft clay casting system there are many steps and I show them all here. The delft clay casting instructions are all complete. I prefer to use an iron delft clay casting flask. There are several different versions of the delft clay casting mold and the one I use in the video is my favorite. If you are delft clay casting a silver ring or delft clay casting a pendant then I recommend a smaller mold. I hope that by watching this delft clay casting tutorial you feel better equipped to go try it yourself. Happy Casting!

Nice work on the Pawn. The two halves of the flask are called the Drag=bottom and Cope=Top. I use the shine bright too, it works wonders. Don't forget to powder up the piece b4 you press it down in the sand, not good if it sticks. I forget at times too lol

I'd love to have a set made out of aluminum and copper. Sure, silver is gorgeous, but I would love to have it live on my coffee table and not worry about it "walking off".

Sweet. This is where Ive been having trouble. I use the same dough knife. Nice. I think its my clay. I went with the cheapest and it doesnt seperate as smooth and hold its form as well. Also the air lines. Good idea. Have same furnace. I need to upgrade my Dremel also. Got the Wal Mart brand. Got the same tumbler also. Love Harbor Freight. Thanks for the tips

    very cool!
I had a metals class back in high school. We didn't get to use cool stuff like silver though. We made everything with Steel.
I had casted a 3lb steel anime paperweight. We had a foundry though. It was a super fun project.
Chess is a fun game and silver pieces would just make it all the more fun.
You did a great job with your mold. :)

Generic rounds and bars, the least expensive ones you can find, or shot if you find it for less, or silver scrap, or... Keep it simple though, straight .999 silver.

If you wanted to mould a chess set for use, you're better off using sterling silver
999 is good for stacking but if it drops on the floor it's going to leave a mark!
