Awesome, you found Canada's other premium 3-peice prog export! (I'm sure I'll hear from someone who's a fan of a third 3-peice Canadian prog band, sorry, I dont know them lol) If you liked "Hold On", "Magic Power" is basically its successor, I'm sure you will love it just as I did when I discovered it!
Check out the 1987 Halifax Nova Scotia concert live... enjoy the music and the ladies in the crowd. You read that they were a great live band ... Again check on that Halifax Concert and hear them live
"Lay It On the Line," their other big hit from 1979, is a blast; "Fight the Good Fight" and "Magic Power" were international hits but they have other great tracks as well. Dig in!
I saw them in concert in the early 80's. 50,000 watts of power and 50,000 watts of lights. Amazing show! Check out their "Magic Power" tune. Sold out arenas everywhere.
Thank you to Rik Emmett and Triumph for creating such beautiful and inspiring songs...I am 57 now and when I was still a kid this song brought light in dark moments and made a great difference for me. I hope kids now can find things that offer just as much hope and positive energy.
Canada's second-best-ever hard rock trio!!! Lead Guitarist and Primary Vocalist during the band's salad days, Rick Emmett, had a voice that was a marvel to behold, as were his mad guitar skills. PS - They did a lot of layering when it came to production of studio recordings, notwithstanding the fact that they were also known to be excellent live performers in their prime. PPS - For the avoidance of doubt, "in their prime" was a reference to the original lineup at its peak. Emmett still has the voice all of these years later.
Oh yeah, I had Triumph blasting on my boom box back in the day.. along with Rush as I apparently have a thing for "Canadian power trios". Rush will always be my favorite band of all time, but Triumph is right up there too.
I bought this album when it first came out, it was my very first Triumph album. Fell in love with this song and the band. I saw them 6 times in concert. They are my very most favorite band of all time, still listen to them often today. I am glad to see you do this reaction video, I think it brings them out into the spotlight for a new group of people to hear them. It is awesome! I don't feel they ever got the recognition they deserved.
They always had very positive messages in their lyrics, but what gets me is the ridiculous amount of talent Rik has to be able to play AND sing the way he does.
All that sound from only 3 people ! Ordinary Man , magic Power , Little Boy Blues ( instrumental) ... too many to suggest . keep hitting them , they are worth it !! Fight the Good Fight may be their best
I remember waking up one Saturday morning, and feeling happy about not having to go to school, or work ( can't remember, it was so long ago ) i was lying in bed, I turned on the radio, and this song started, it was so perfect, i remember hearing that voice and thinking who is that ? I think I became an instant Triumph fan right then & there ! I always thought this song would be perfect for a movie scene, where it starts out with all the noise, and hustle & bustle of a city, and then somebody driving out of the city and into the peaceful countryside, and as the city & noise fade into the distance, this song starts up. Just something I visualized
I was lucky enough to see Triumph a total of SEVEN times in their short life together... Stating with them playing my freaking High School on their first tour way back in 1979!!!!!... This was my very first concert and damn... What a bench mark huh??
I saw them in late 1979 in Chattanooga, Tennessee at the memorial auditorium. Tickets were $7.95 I believe. Had the T Shirt for years afterwards. The reason I got the shirt is because I was leaning against the escalator and the black plastic handrail rubbed a black line across my whole rear end! 😂 not cool when your a 15 year old cute girl. ❤😂They had the best light show too.
Absolutely love seeing this current generation rocking out to the theme songs of my life!!! Makes me so happy!!! Enjoy it my friend and I highly recommend good headphones and a kick ass sound system in your car!
Triumph is fantastic! You really should also check out another Great Canadian band AprilWine, they had such a strong wall of guitar sound, just amazing.
Triumph is special. They were friendly with Rush, Geddy and the guys respected Triumph. I met Rik and Gil at the Live at the US Festival video release party. They couldn't have been nicer. Naturally.
@@howardlederer4941 What a coincidence! I was at that same concert too! A memorable moment was when a foot long joint was passed to me as it went around the room. Its a miracle I remember anything! great show though! John Kay with Steppenwolf and BTO!
So happy to see you get this immediately. The buildup of this song and the amazing celebration of how music can get you through the dark parts of life in these lyrics just cuts me right to bone (and soul). This is the song I need when depressed. They are NOT RUSH, but are something else that is just as special.
Nice. Glad you got to these guys. Huge Rush fan here and also a Triumph fan. Got to see them a few times including what was unfortunately their last concert with original members (save a one off reunion about 20 years later!). Rik Emmet quit the band right after the show and I got the news in the Toronto news papers the very next morning! Amazing band and they should have been much bigger than they were (and they got pretty big in some parts of the US). Do more of them for sure!
Hey Salvo You are 100% correct the song is special. It's a spectacular song by a spectacular band. In my opinion they are one of the most underrated and overlooked bands in existence, maybe it's because they're from Canada lol Another song about the power of music that they do it's called "Magic Power"that is just as good if not better. Also check out "Fight The Good Fight" it's all about personal empowerment and it gives you that feeling. I think you would really dig both songs. ✌️Peace✌️
They have been in my top 5 since 1979. You should watch their video (whole concert) from the US Festival in 1983. 200-300K people were there. They were HUGE. They're really great live- Fight the Good Fight live in Halifax is awesome. All of their songs are very uplifting. Lay It on the Line was like an anthem song.
This was the time when Car stereos got really loud and yes blasting all the bands in a Tiny town of 4000. The hang out was on a main Street vacant lot on Sat night with a cold beer and your babe on your arm...... good times indeed
I loved Triumph! It's been ages since I heard this amazing classic! I just added it to my playlist, I've missed it! Friends at the time said Triumph was derivative, and I argued that all art is derivative. They weren't entirely wrong since influences are not always this apparent, but they created something new and amazing out of it, so my old snobby friends can take a hike, lol. To be fair, they have all grown up, now, and I doubt they are gate-keeping music, anymore. You heard Geddy Lee influences, and I agree, there is a lot of Rush-ness, here. I can hear a lot of Styx, too. Even the great cover art kinda looks like a Journey cover ate a Boston cover, lol. It was the style at the time..
First of all I truly enjoy your reactions. I especially look forward to seeing you experience music that I grew up with. I always liked Triumph because they were an uplifting band with a positive message. I saw them in concert in the early 80’s and they shot a laser into a large disco ball which of course blasted the entire arena with laser lines. I was in high school during the early 80’s and got to experience some of the best bands of that era. As a matter of fact, Bob Seger played a few of the local bars around Detroit in his early days, during the 70’s, and I recall my mom and dad talking about seeing him perform. Good times! 😊
Glad you have found Triumph! A 3 piece band like Rush but oh the power they created. Next song must be Magic Power, then Lay It on the Line, Fight the Good Fight as starters cRick Emmitt was a guitar god that nobody knew! Live they were all incredible (check out the recordings from The US festival!). I was introduced to them from this song. 1978 I was a junior in high school. I used to get these radio promotional 45’s in the mail ( I guess from my Circus Magazine subscription) and one of them was this song by this unheard of band names Triumph. I was instantly hooked. As I went away to college they became one of my go to bands for my 5 hour drive back and forth to college!
I seen them live 6-7 times my ex is friends with the lead singer Ric,met them all back stage, my ex still hangs out with him, they are amazing,i was living half hour from were there from, they came to Oshawa Ontario a lot in the early days ❤️❤️🇨🇦
My favorite band of all time! Listen to Triumph live at the US festival “Fight the Good Fight”. They were considered the good guys of metal because their music is uplifting or inspiring!!!
Salvo, I'm sensing a pattern across the songs you've reacted to. It seems like that rock music I grew up listening to, really is great music. Thanks for posting it. 🙂
You need to go down the Triunph rabbit hole, a lot of great songs. Funny you mentioned Getty Lee, Triunph is another Canadian power trio and Rick Emmit sings in a similar range to Getty Lee. You need to watch some of their live videos and hear how great Emmmits voice is, fyi he also plays lead guitar. All their album covers are similar to the one you saw. More Triumph!
The other power trio from Toronto ( Rush ) Rik Emmett has an amazing voice and is an excellent guitarist. Please check out Lay it on the Line from the US Festival 1983. They blew the crowd away! Cheers
One of their best songs. Gil's use of the upbeat during the chorus at 7:14 is very tasteful! In addition to the other songs already mentioned, check out "All the King's Horses/Carry on the Flame" pair which should be played together.
The cover art back then on albums was sensational, glad I have must of my 3000 albums still playable,, they put on one hell of a show seen them 3 times
Like Rush, Triumph is an awesome band live. I'd be hard pressed to count on one hand the talent level that could measure up to Rik Emmett when it comes to lead vocals and guitar. Man can this guy sing and when it comes to chops on the guitar, oh man, are you in for a treat.
Rick Emmett had Alex Leifson play guitar (formally of Rush) on one of his more recent solo albums. Heard them live on their first visit to San Antonio.
Never heard this or of them before but the song is awesome, I’m really liking the vocals, lyrics and the music is a jam, thanks, it sorta reminds me of a Journey song with a little bit of YES music
Saw these guys twice. Once in Hollywood Fl and the Spectrum in Philly for Thunder Seven tour. These guys really brought it! Check out Ordinary Man, Time Goes by, Fight the Good Fight
Highly recommend their song "Rock and Roll Machine" The guitar work is stellar. Studio version is excellent. Some like the live version from US Fest better, but Rick goes into more of a flamenco vibe during the solo. I prefer the shredding on the studio cut.❤
They played Triumph on the radio about 1980 with Hold On and Lay it on the Line being big hits that made me want to hear more. When Allied Forces came out in ‘81 I bought the album and saw the tour when it came near. I can’t say that Hold On was my favorite, but this was a great introduction. The band is great and Ric is a standout - they do have some performance videos that are worth a look to see the guys play.
Salvo, you should have been born a little earlier. I am 55 and you seem to like all the songs I grew up with. It has been great watching you discover these songs. This is a great one from Triumph. You should listen to Magic Power next.
You gotta see this one through to the end, this song constantly rewards you as you progress through it.

Dude - Your reaction is what we all felt when we heard it for the first time back in the day. Saved souls - lives - ask their fans
When you talk about the best power trios, don't ever sleep on Triumph. They are severely underrated. This whole album is just as fantastic.
Imo “Never Surrender” is there best album
Very underrated band. I loved them back in the day.
@@basher5107, huge fan of Allied Forces as well. Thunder Seven gets all the love, but their catalogue was phemomenal.
I believe they are underrated too.
Great band with great positive message songs. Rik Emmett shreds the vocals and guitar. Underrated guitarist for sure!
"Lay It On the Line," their other big hit from 1979, is a blast; "Fight the Good Fight" and "Magic Power" were international hits but they have other great tracks as well. Dig in!
All three songs are must listen songs.
Fight the Good Fight is my go-to song whenever I feel like giving up. Always has been.
Love all those but Somebody's Out There on to from a little later in their career is my fav, one of the most positive catchy soongs ever.
Their lyrics are often very inspirational in the message.
This tune was a poem written by Rik in high school. They were having issues writers block so Rik decided to adapt the poem to music.
Lay it on the Line , live will make you happy.
Gil's drum rolls at the end of the verses & stanzas is unbelievable !!
Their music is giant ... huge ... powerful ... and awesome
I saw them in concert in the early 80's. 50,000 watts of power and 50,000 watts of lights. Amazing show! Check out their "Magic Power" tune. Sold out arenas everywhere.
I saw them many times in the dallas area. Rik Emmett is such a good guitarist and performer.
Saw them in Seattle! They are totally underrated! One of the best concerts I ever went to back in the early 80's!
one of my favorite bands when i was a teenager, such a great underrated and overlooked band, love everything they do
Triumph always seemed to me to be in the shadow of Rush and were definitely underrated.
Kind of a blend of Rush and Journey
Many of us Rush addicts were also big fans of Triumph
Thank you to Rik Emmett and Triumph for creating such beautiful and inspiring songs...I am 57 now and when I was still a kid this song brought light in dark moments and made a great difference for me. I hope kids now can find things that offer just as much hope and positive energy.
Thanks Salvog for reacting to my request. Tim ❤
THANKS FOR REQUESTING THEM!! LOVE TRIUMPH!!!
Canada's second-best-ever hard rock trio!!!

Watch any of their songs at the US Festival in 1983 (400,000 heavy metal fans screaming their lungs out), they are superb.
A lot of rock bands don't sound really good live, but Triumph is an exception. They sounded great live, and the live vidoes of them are impressive.
You have chosen wisely my friend.. this is an ultimate band and have many many great tunes
They always had very positive messages in their lyrics, but what gets me is the ridiculous amount of talent Rik has to be able to play AND sing the way he does.
Always uplifting with a voice like an angel and some of the best power chords bookending Emmett's virtuoso guitar work. Triumph is a GEM.
I just love Rik Emmett....just a great singer and good guy. Amazing sound for a 3 piece band!!!!
I think Rik is a better singer than Geddy
All that sound from only 3 people ! Ordinary Man , magic Power , Little Boy Blues ( instrumental) ... too many to suggest . keep hitting them , they are worth it !! Fight the Good Fight may be their best

You need to see them live from the US Festival in 1983. I would suggest you start with "Lay it on the Line" from that concert.
Saw these guys at the US Festival in 83. Blew the doors off.
This one brought back ALOT of memories, great memories.
I got tears in my eyes.
They are the gods of positive rock, with this, Fight the Good Fight, Never Surrender, Magic Power just to name a few
This is one of those few songs that I would call "perfect". not a note, not a beat, not a chord out of place and ambitious as all hell.
That feeling you are feeling is what rock is all about my friend!
Triumph is fantastic! You really should also check out another Great Canadian band AprilWine, they had such a strong wall of guitar sound, just amazing.
