  • Isonokami Shrine is an ancient shrine that enshrines the sacred sword, Futsu-no-Mitama. It is believed to have been founded during the reign of Emperor Sujin. Futsu-no-Mitama, the deity of the shrine, is said to be the sword that Amaterasu Omikami bestowed upon Emperor Jimmu during his eastern expedition, as recorded in the Kojiki. The shrine was formerly known as "Isonokami Furugun Shrine" and "Furu Daimyojin," but it was restored to its current name in 1883. In the Heian period, it was recognized as a Myojin Taisha, and in 867, it was awarded the highest rank of Shoichii. The Mononobe clan, who managed sacred treasures, also played a significant role in military affairs.
