When I was little our Family Physician as they were called handled it all unless there was a problem, I had 3 brother's and we were very close in age. He was such a wonderful Dr., and man and friend to my family, so he took lots of time with us, and explained everything. So, this is how he would check our ears. I actually liked it. Lol. By the time we got home, we could check everything on all the baby dolls, pets and neighbors. Lol But they just don't have wonderful Dr's, like that anymore, he was our Dr., until he passed away. Bless his wonderful soul!!❤

As a ENT specialty clinical nurse, it also depends on how hard the ear wax. Ear wax needed to be softened up before it can be easily and safely removed.
It’s soooooo satisfying when they do it this way. Like scratching an itch I didn’t know existed
Then after that it slowly starts becoming mildly painful.
@@bipin3639 thank you
Back in the day, my dad used to flush out our earwax with a syringe filled with saline solution. It worked perfectly, I’m talking about the fifties and early sixties. The evolution of medical technology, how sweet👍🏾
They still do that. This is ENT specific. Urgent care or your primary care will still use a bottle filled with distilled water to gently flush your ear out
@@DarkDreams948 Yes my primary care uses softening drops and flushes it out with warm water too. Had it done this way once too with a lancet type device at an urgent care. Didn't hurt. I just felt a little pressure. Better than being constantly lightheaded and dizzy when the ears are impacted with wax.
Done standard by ENT docs in India most of the govt setups
I had my ears picked out like this by an ENT and the pain almost sent me through the roof. I'll take the old fashioned syringe and irrigation method any day over this torture......
@@jamiecloud1897 technically it should be painless. Don’t know why it caused you pain.
Thank you! I have an appt today and was looking for what to expect and only saw videos with “graphic content” warnings and the patients looking horrified and scared! This video was very assuring and calming instead. Thank you

Well, it's exactly the same motion as doing it with a cotton swap, but with better visibility .
@@johndododoe1411apparently the cotton swap don't really helps it can push the wax down further cotton swaps are ok for cleaning around the ear

Am an ENT surgeon from India. This is not the way ear wax can be removed safely. One small movement by the patient can cause injuries. Ear syringing by sterile water or diluted povidone iodine is the safest method. If wax is still stubborn, a ear microscope is needed to evacuate the wax with specific instruments under magnified vision. Removal of impacted ear wax safely, is not as easy as it seems.
Thanks for clarifying those points . If something seems too good to be true ,it usually is .

I remember I couldn’t hear for 2 weeks because of wax buildup. My primary Dr could not do it. I had to go to the ER and they flushed my ears out with water and peroxide solution and I could hear so clearly!! It was such a relief!
Yes!!! You can go to any clinic, and they will do this!!! I get earwax building up, and as someone said here, they go in, and a person “ear-I gates” your ear!! They usually have a small machine/receptacle that holds water Which they can put warm/hot water into adjusting the temperature, and I guess using peroxide and or salt solution too, if they want… And then they can power wash the earwax out of your ear canal!!! so don’t run out and buy hearing aids, people!!! Just get your ears cleaned out!!
next time consider going to Urgent care rather than an ER if there is something like that in your communty
Your primary doctor could not flush your ears with a solution to unclog them? So you were sent to an EMERGENCY room? Sounds ridiculous. So they said, "What is the emergency?" And you tell them you have a clogged ear? Lol
Seeing that instrument gave me flash backs of being a kid in the 80s when the ENT would poke around my ears with one. It hurt like hell. I can't believe you guys still use them all these years later.

@creativesource3514 yes birth daughters had microsecond used. One got it frequently as her tube's didn't stop infection and the nasty had to be sticked out for him to see. The other put a bead in her ear. Edit to add the one time a doc used a tool, the ear canal bled.

the way she is doing it they do it that way in Japan, and South Korea but they use a cam to look inside, with a monitor part of Asia.
@@JIMMYZRivz In some parts od Asia, there isn't even any other instrument aside from the long metal thin rod. I've had it done before, they just gently scrape around the entrance of the ear canal.

Warm water can cause trauma to the ear, it did to my ear!!!
@@_Just_Another_Guy People use their finger nails to clean round the entrance of ear canal. Chewing gum moved wax outward.

I went nearly deaf from wax and used Castor Oil and Q-tips for 4 days. Perfect hearing now. But you have to be Very careful with Q-tips. If you're not careful go to a doctor. Some suggest peroxide and you don't need Q-tips, but my wax was really impacted so I think Castor Oil and Q-tips worked great for me.
I have to clean my husband's ears about every other month. LOL This would have helped me when I came back from my deployment- 9 months worth of gunk. Lol
😂 Haha, thank you for your service.
Your husband isn't capable of cleaning his own ears especially for nine whole months? That's basic hygiene. Also, every other month is not enough...
@@ashj0 there is no way for someone to safely and effectively remove their own ear wax buildup; qtips/cotton buds are not safe and only push wax deeper into the ear. She shouldn’t be doing it for him either. This should be a professional’s job as they have the right tools and equipment.
@@Halo2glitchlover22 that’s literally not true. I’ve never had my ears cleaned by anything other than a qtip and every doctor that has ever looked in my ears says I have the cleanest ears they’ve ever seen. I just clean my ears a twice a week like any normal person should. I would never wait two months or however long in between.
Interesting! I had a nurse put a dissolving solution into my ear, then flushed it out. Easy peasy.
I know they're bad for you but I use Q-Tips. I had my ears cleaned in the local emergency room once and they used water. The problem was after they used water, I had the worst ear infection I think i may have ever had. It sucked not being able to hear right around Christmas. The problem now is I never get anything on the qtips though I clean my ears pretty much every day. Is there something I can use to actually clean my ears that won't risk the infection? I've tried Water and Peroxide but that doesn't always work. The insides of my ears sometimes itch and that drives me nuts.

I see the ENT doc every 6 months. He uses a suction device to remove wax build up. Kinda wish it was something I could utilize at home every other month or so.
They have kits at Walgreens that you can get that flushes out earwax. My daughter's pedi recommended it when he saw that she would have heavy wax build-up just like her dad. I've only had to use it once. When she has a small blockage.
You can do this at home. Head into Walmart to the eye and ear aisle. They have a whole row of wax removal kits. If you buy individual wax softening solution, get the ones made of 6.5% bicarbonate solution. It will bubble like vinegar and baking soda. They also have ear sprayers that just spray around the sides, no spray directly on ear drum. Generic brand is just as good as expensive name brands.

Right now my ears feel fine expect for the horrible ringing and also I can’t blow air into my ear if my ear has had impacted earwax for 3 weeks is that to much ? 💔
2 weeks isn't that long, it's unlikely any permanent damage will occur. People have had impacted earwax for ages without even realizing it.
So sorry to hear this. I am glad you are seeing an ENT so they can fully assess why you are having tinnitus. As best you can, try not to focus on it. The wax will be ok til you see them. Hope you feel better soon!!!
