How many people marched trumpet for BD in 2017, and how many had lead parts? Just curious. By the way, you guys had an amazing show-I get goosebumps during the ballad every time, haha!
the opener and closer we had 9 leads, the ballad we had 13 leads I believe(I can't remember how many seconds were also playing lead in the ballad). 24 trumpets in the non trumpet feature parts of the show.
I hope there’s at least a few people that understand how impressive this is, along with that how impressive all the other trumpets doing it is too. 24 trumpets with enough of them having the endurance to play these lines for an entire show is madness. The intonation, projection, and just power behind it is crazy. BD’s trumpet section 100% makes them who they are.
Mr. Smith I'm confused? How many leads does BD have and what exactly constitutes an upper versus lower Lead? I had assumed it to be the pitch of note, but your explanation prior has me slightly confused.
Da'Joun Dotson lead is just another term for first part. Upper lead means when there is a divisi you play the upper split, lower means the lowers split of the divisi. So if the first trumpets have a high C and a high A the upper play the C and the lower play the A. Usually the parts are unison but when it's not the parts are broken up upper and lower for each of the trumpet parts. I played lower lead all of the show except the ballad where I played upper, which is why I'm playing between a high C and a Double G during the ballad hit.
I am proud to say 4 years later that this is my band director 😌

Oh and while im at It, the fact that you played this without the aid of a typical lead mouthpiece is very impressive.

Da'Joun Dotson also, I am playing on a lead mouthpiece. Mine is slightly shallower than a 3c but with a bigger throat
Davis Smith thanks so much for the help! I wanted to go march hopefully in the 2019 season.
