  • The following is a very rare Stryper interview featuring Michael & Robert Sweet on the program Real Videos from the christian television station TBN. I recorded this show in 1991, and its now has been digitized and uploaded in 2022. Michael & Robert answer many questions and misconceptions about the album "Against The Law". This is one of the best interviews I have ever seen the band do and features many of their classic music videos. Hope you all enjoy it.

You guys are Awesome and never ever stop singing and playing for God.
Satan will do his best to destroy something that God wants from you guys.
God gave you talent an assignment and that is reaching out to people through your music so that they to would come to know Christ.
I would love to come to one of your concerts.
I never had to money to do so but I love your music and it speaks God and that the only thing that counts.

OMG! I had this on VHS back in the early 90's from the broadcast, and the tape got recorded over (I think Dad used it for a movie) - I have literally looked for this for YEARS! Thanks so much for posting, such a great ride back down this particular memory. I wasn't a Stryper fan prior, but discovered 'Against The Law' because of this episode and became obsessed. First Stryper album I ever bought. Thanks for the time and effort putting this up. Brilliant. Cheers!

@@Ragrocks I saw them in '88 and at a Christian music festival about 10 years back and didn't realize they continued making new music after Against The Law. I bought the line that they went mainstream and I heard what I considered a poor version of their Shining Star cover and tuned them out. I recently purchased THWTD and In God We Trust (couldn't find older) and head a recent concert on UA-cam. I had never heard "All For One" and thought it was great. When I saw it was from Against The Law I decided to check into their newer stuff. Once I digest "The Final Battle" I will probably get "Against the Law" and give it a fair hearing.

Great interview, thank you for posting! It looks like part of this was on a rare promo cassette for “Can’t Stop The Rock” so it was nice to hear it. Very soft spoken gentlemen considering how hard they rock! Been a fan since 1985 and ATL did not lose me one bit as it conveyed many positive messages.
The underrated title track from “Can’t Stop The Rock”, with the nearly identical production/sound of the instruments and vocals, along with the fact that a promotional letter sent out prior to ATL that 12 tracks were recorded for the album, yet only 11 appeared on the album, leads me to believe that this track was recorded during those sessions. If that’s the case, it’s possible that since it shares a similar lyrical theme to ATL’s title track, only one of the songs would make it on ATL. Anyone know the details? Love the references to other Stryper songs in that song. “Believe” was also very underrated and overlooked. 2022’s The Final Battle I think is the best Stryper album since ATL.

Thanks for watching and your comments. I saw a video from Stryper collector guru Bret talking about that extra track that was left off ATL. In his video that is on FB Stryper collector page, the track was “Invitation Only” from ETDB album. It wasn’t on ATL because they didn’t have enough time to finish it. It was finished in 2020. Also saw a MS interview saying it was a leftover track from the ATL sessions. I love ATL album, definitely in my top 3 Stryper albums. More Stryper videos will be uploaded when I get the chance. Some of the music videos were remastered from a better source in my collection. I have a 67GB master QT file with Apple Pro Res 422HQ Codec. It looks better than this YT version. YT compressed it 😠

I knew that Stryper wasn't failing by making Against The Law, my deal was that it was not the style of music I liked. I didn't really like the bluesy side of Rock and Metal in any band. I still went and saw them perform on that tour. Bride opened and Michael was having a tough night. At one time Oz looked over at Michael and said "You okay, mam?" He looked like he had the flu. Michael finished the evening but he struggled. That wasn't in a memorial hall or arena, it was in a bar in Springfield, Missouri. I know they were fighting a war at that time, it wasn't a war against the enemy but parts of the Church Body were warring against them.

And he took the blue and black striped cymbal stand started smashing it against the stage floor leaving the cymbal all bent out of shape and then they exited the stage. This was an arena show on the ATL tour. Only in Puerto Rico, in the USA they had moved back to large clubs to my understanding on this tour. I have the bootleg audio only of this show, its already been digitized, but Im debating if I should upload it to this channel or not. The quality isn’t that great but I think the die hard fans will enjoy it, especially because of the set list, very heavy on ATL songs that I think they never played agin. It's embarrassing to think back to the narrow-minded Christians at this time. Their idea of "God" was tiny. Thankfully we've come a long way (I hope). It would be laughable to come across a "Christian" today who took issue with any of the following topics (inspired by the songs on Against the Law):
    1) Christians standing up against unbiblical doctrine coming from the Church itself
    2) A message to a two-timing woman to "don't come back this way"
    3) Celebrating what one was born to do: rock the people
    4) Loyalty to one another
    5) Refusing a one-night stand
    6) Encouragement to reach towards your dreams
    7) The unrealistic expectations given to an ordinary man
    8) The universal desire to court someone
    9) Dealing with doubt while at a crossroads in life
    10) A call for unity in a world that's falling apart
    11) Fighting a spiritual battle through music
What a peculiar time in Christendom.
God forbid that Christians turn their backs on other Christians going through "valleys" as described in this video. SMH.

I meant with the Against the Law era. They made fools out of themselves so that the world laughed and the Christians abandoned them.
It's all so typical of Western Christians to be this weak, not having any spine, no principles. To be influenced by the world, pulled by the wind in all directions.
Christianity is just too weak, there's no spirit, no supernatural force to help and guide the believer. The power of the flesh, sex and pleasure is too strong on humanity.
Sincere Christians are hard to find among all the 40,000 Christian sects. Christianity in the West is about to become eradicated.

These guys are one of the few bands from that era still making new good music their fans like. Your opinion on the their beliefs doesn't change that.

Yes, they made decent albums in the modern era, especially Fallen and God Damn Evil, and the song "god" from their cover album.
