I saw the National Ballet of Cuba perform Don Quixote here in Los Angeles this past Sunday, June 26, 2011. They were magnificent! The audience went wild, jumping up with standing ovations over and over. If ever you have a chance to see them, don't miss it!
Esta interpretación de Don Quijote es simplemente MARAVILLOSA!!!!!!!!!!! Siempre he admirado a los bailarines cubanos, desde que hace muchísimos años vi en México a Alicia Alonso, en su juventud, bailar "Giselle". Esta pareja de Don Quijote son increíbles! Qué seguridad tan asombrosa y qué interpretación tan elegante y graciosa a la vez. FELICIDADES
De los mejores ballets en todo el mundo, los cubanos se caracterizan por tener mucha expresividad interpretacion y gracia al bailar. Ademas.de un super balance, saltos expectaculares, y maravillosos giros . Amo la tecnica cubana y el ballet cubano se roba mi corazon, tienen algo unico y especial que los distingue de los americanos, canadienses ,los rusos, los coreanos, españoles, mexicanos , londinienses etc. Como mexicana y bailarina que soy los admiro demasiado.
Very slick. This looks like a promo. I must say that the Cuban National Ballet is a credit to Mme. Alonso. It has her mark of greatness written all over it.
No , I really do think it's cool that the government of Cuba ,inspite of its sometimes shaky reputation, promoted the arts and among all the races there and some of the best dancers are from there
They are great, my favorite ballet co. So much admiration for their great, unique ballet I grew up in similar conditions which pushed many artists to create great art and beauty. Bravo!

Dance, beautiful as it may be, cannot be more than a homage, to the actual tale. See the ballet. Watch the movies. Enjoy the musicals and plays. They are mere distractions, from the important & timeless ideas in the actual book. I implore you all; to please read it.
Well I agree is realy realy beautiful but I dont know I would like do watch a more. In a nice way the few I watch is just amazing but a little over. We cant forget that all the major arts do not make us breathless. They use to bring up silent emotions and wet eyes, bumping hearts and extasy. See "Pietá", David, Alicia Alonso divine ever and forever, Nureyev the blessed , and so many others arts expretions.

@09Jerzy Art trancends politics. Everytime I hear the words capitalism or socialism it makes me sick. The U.S. has plenty of socialistic programs, and now Cuba is venturing into capitalism. Nevertheless, this Cuban ballet corp is magnificent, and deservedly, the pride of Cuba.
Кубинцы молодцы, вопреки всему трудностям и проблемам, имеют прекрасную балетную труппу, одну из сильнейших в мире, отличную школу. Алонсо - легенда и там всегда работали, и работают русские преподаватели.
En Cuba no hay ningún profesor Ruso menos para el ballet , no es necesario tenemos nuestros gustos respetamos mucho su legendaria , maravillosa, famosa , triunfadora , escuela pero no nos colgamos de ellos ni de nadie , no sería bueno para nadie menos para nosotros , se trabaja sobre la verdad , nuestra verdad que es Cubana Latina , no RUSA , hubo un gran profesor cuando no existía más que los pininos , fue profesor de Alicia y los Alonso , Alberto y Fernando se llamó Nicolay Yabolski un bailarín Ruso que visitó Cuba con una compañía de Zarzuelas , siendo contratado por una asociación de Cubanas llamada Pro Arte Musical ese señor , fue el profesor de las semillas de lo que hoy es nuestro Ballet , una pena que no sepa cuanto triunfó en nuestra , su compañía que también es parte de el , aunque creo llegaría a conocer los triunfos de su alumna como primera , famosa bailarina del B,O,H en N ,YORK hoy creadora de todo un sueño que Cuba poseía en su ADN , este gran ARTISTA no llegó a conocer la gran parte que le pertenece de esta gran obra que un día con sus más insignes alumnos el comenzara , con amor , devoción , entereza y verdad , de todo un Grande del ballet , CUBANO mucho le debemos , agradecemos , recordaremos , estaremos más que felices agradecidos por SIEMPRE , también hubo un primer gran bailarín , AZARY PLISESKY hermano de la absoluta , bella bailarina MAYA PLISESKAYA , por lo demás todo es Cubano supervisado por ALICIA nuestra escuela se basa en lo mejor de todas las escuelas llevado a nuestra fisonomía , gustos , manera de pensar , expresarnos , (nuestra ideosincracia ) lo demás es mucho trabajo , estudios , experiencias , eso a sido todo , una escuela dónde nos sentimos cómo somos y nos expresamos cómo CUBANOS NO COMO OTRA COSA AUTENTICOS VERDADEROS SEGUROS DE LO QUE HACEMOS Y DEBEMOS HACER SIEMPRE ..... ............ @LoveBallet2007 Really? personally, I don't like the production design. The costumes and the backdrop doesn't match. A bright, happy scene is confused by the dark/mysterious background. not to mention the garish red and yellow of the matadors' costume is just painful to look at.The atmosphere just doesn't feel as good as the mariinsky production. Classical ballet is the beautiful mixture of dance and theater. I just find the theater part of this is a bit lacking.
To understand all these details you have to know that Alicia Alonso, prima ballerina assoluta di Cuba danced in the States in the 40's and she was " critized" for her expresivity moods but she didn' t change it at all. Al you must know Is that we are Latins and we are Happy, we bring joy because as Cubans we laught also when we are in not good times, I hope you can understand, maybe if you read something about Alicia Alonso' s history you could get the idea about the scenography changes and the uses of the brightening colours on clothes :-)
Simplemente encuentro que estas muy pérdida , los colores amarillos y rojo caracterizan a ESPAÑA de donde fue Don Quijote no es un nonbre por gusto todo tiene un significado lógico dónde se origina el ballet . Basado en la historia de cada ballet se hace todo lo demás nuestros diseñadores estudiaron diseño teatral , todo esta basado en la realidad , no en que se ve más bonito , el carácter de los que un día bailaron esas manifestaciones fueron gitanos seguro , nada más las parecido a nosotros que tenemos mucho de ESPAÑA y somos CUBANOS , alegres , bailadores , sociables , atléticos , y con sabor que no es más que un equivalente al SALERO de los españoles , pero a nuestra forma llena de alegría , satisfacción , y AMOR por la vida y nuestra más que maravillosa tierra llena de humildad , HUMANIDAD HACIA LOS DEMAS FALTOS DE IDENTIDAD AMOR MAS CONOCIMIENTOS DE LA VERDAD .... ............................
