I came to Joe very, very late in life. I'd never even heard of him before and happened across him here on UA-cam...but when I heard that incredible voice, range and saw his presentation, I had to wonder why I hadn't heard of him. It seems Joe Longthorne belonged to England just like Dusty Springfield did. He had a huge following and like Dusty, had his own popular TV show but Joe concentrated all his efforts in the UK. Dusty was different, she loved the new sounds from America...specifically the Motown sound and sang back up for many groups at that time. She brought it into her music as best she could but we associate her mostly with her hits. Both Joe & Dusty could sing the phone book and make it entertaining! She was a well rounded performer and was a Pop Star before we even knew what a pop star was. Although Joe never had the string of hits that surfaced in the USA, his wasn't the hit parade type of music and with sincere apologies to Dusty, neither was hers...but each song came at the right moment here in the states and it happened at the right time for her. She cemented her legacy in both places. What Joe sang, he sang from the tips of his toes to the ends of his hair...just like Dusty...but he was a different type of performer. He loved the intimate "Supper Club" feel and cherished his concert venues in Blackpool where hundreds or even thousands could be with him. He made every song and every audience his. Joe had a voice that knocks you out. Those two epitomized the sounds of musical love like no other person or group has ever done.
I've watched this so many times, and each time it's like losing him all over again 💔, knowing what happened a few years later, such a talented man, so brave and so missed 💙
Saw him maybe a year before he died in Blackpool and I was amazed at how great his voice was considering his heath woes. One of the best singers I've seen live.
Loved Joe . What a voice, what a performer. Saw him at the Savaas Club in Usk must have been about '87/88. Front row seat and a kiss from Joe at the end. He was gorgeous. RIP x
Could never understand why he wasn't a mega star as he had such a talent..the lady singing like Streisand was amazing..I was lucky enough to see Joe many yrs ago at the height if his fame in Jersey..he was bloody amazing..such a genuine nice guy..gone..but never forgotten..RIP Joe..man of a thousand voices..and a corker of a human being..🇬🇧💞🙏✝️👍👏👏👏
Joe was very special. My theory is that despite Joe's huge success , it may have been different if he hadn't impersonated and stuck to straight singing because his singing voice was beyond measure. That's my theory
Joe I’ve loved you all my life what a superstar such a bid huge part of my life what a beautiful human being miss you so much that huge voice and so glamorous so talented and georgeous thankyou for this release still hurts so much why him such a lovely guy loved by millions heartbroken ❤️💕
no matter what joe,s ongoing fans comment me also, cant say what we really mean as its that powerful,i know i cant explain, but he will be missed more than we can say..thank you joe for sharing your life and talant with us all RIP 📀💫🙏
Brilliant entertainer and I remember when I was entertaining in Eastbourne at Kings Holiday Park and Joe would do his show. He has an amazing following. I am now in Blackpool on the Central Pier and amazing to see Peter Sedgwick here in this video along with Joe.
Many many thanks for this release. I miss joe so much but these keep is memory alive and remind us all what a great man and entertainer joe was. Thanks again
Joe was a one off. Who else could bring Sinatra, Martin, Davis, Bassey and Mathis etc to everyone in 1 room. There will never be another like Joe Longtnorne Joe had a gift and it was such a shame that he was not given his own permanent TV show when he was alive. Joe was and always will be a pure genius. Will never forget you Joe, the world was lucky to have had you. 👍🏻👍🏻😁
I remember seeing Joe at Blackpool in the 80's, I was walking around the pier where a man at the time was stood leaning looking over the water, he said hello how are you to me and was not until years later I realised that nice man was Joe Longthorne. Although I did not appreciate his music back then, but proud to have spoken to a legend. I am sure jimmy Cricket was also on that night... 86/87 i think maybe...
Aw, just so lovely to watch Joe. What a wonderful entertainer, funny , warm , lovely, compassionate person. How wonderful to have had him in our life's. ❤❤❤❤❤
Gosh I didn't even know that he had passed away till now..Me and my mummy always went to see Joe 👀 when ever he came to the Nottingham Royal concert Hall and we found out that he liked Mars bars so we start taking them for him..xx
This documentary still breaks my heart god we miss him what a huge talent he was he was bigger than Blackpool so glad he found his happy ever after god bless you joe love you forever ❤️😊🥲
Gosh I can always remember Joe always drove is own car after doing a show in Nottingham and there was always 1 or 2 cars behind him that just had all the flowers and all the Teddy Bears 🐻 in that is Fans had given him on the night 🧸 and we was told that they was taken straight to the Nottingham City hospital after the show..xx
And we would always go and wait for him to leave after is show and see him and have our picture taken with him lots of times there was 1 time we went to see him had our picture taken with him as always but the picture we had with him that 1 time was for my mummies dialysis nurses but Joe didn't think it had been taken properly so he wanted a nother taken with us just to make sure when we said it was for my mummies nurses at the Nottingham City hospital not to far from where Joe had is chemotherapy love and miss you so much Joe.. 💙xx
I remember the very first time me and my late mummy went to see 👀 Joe Bradley Welsh was is warm up act Bradley was so nice and funny and very friendly on stage but that was just a act with Bradley as me and mummy found out at the end of the show when we first went to see 👀 Joe we waited for Joe Bradley came out first and me and mummy just couldn't believe how rude and bad mannered Bradley was towards us both and like I say he was just the warm up act we was waiting for the real star of the show anyway not Bradley he was ignorant..
If this video did anything, it was to remind me what a Sh*# Hole place Blackpool is. Dodgy Dickinsons daughter gushing about being a Massive Massive Fan from a child but waited 50+ years to see him for the very first time. You can't write this stuff. He was the only artist that would make my Dad turn the TV channel over lol.
The most underrated entertainer in the UK he was absolutely brilliant and a great man. RIP Joe xx
