This unit was actually $159.99 Canadian so a little more expensive than the Topping d10s and FiiO BTA30.
Just found your channel and loving the content. I have a Helix DSP3 with the HD usb interface and director. Do you see a benefit using the k3 via optical over the Helix HD usb interface with the pro max 13?
From the research I have done, most people prefer the coaxial digital input on the Helix the best, then optical and then the USB Hec module.
I don’t have the Hec module so I can’t say which is better but you can always try the Fiio K3 and also a Toping d10s and compare which one you like the most and then just return them if you don’t like them as much as the Hec module.

On another note, what cap did you use for your tweets? I just ordered GB10s and GB40s. Haven’t ordered GB60s yet because I need to figure out how I will put them under my front seats.

Hi Dave so nice to see you and your meaningful review and it's a pure joy to explore your new toy. So you will choose the M11 Plus ESS version and I'm pretty sure you will not be disappointed. I will test my AKM version soon in April in the hope of warmer weather as it is still very cold in Sweden. I agree that the Fiio M17 is quite expensive 2600 is a lot of money for a dap. Last week at the hifi store in my home town they did A / b tests on both Fiio M17 and M11 plus LTD according to them Fiio LTD version sounded almost the same as M17 but the difference was noticed when they used the powerful headphones that m17 was stronger to handle powerful speakers otherwise the sound was almost the same even though the LTD version was AKM vs ESS so I am very sure you will love the new version. Thank you sir! I’m not sure if I’m going the go with the ESS version as I have been hearing the LTD version is more musical. Nothing in life is ever easy lol I wish there was only one version and then FiiO would bring out an M16 or something in the middle of the M11 plus and M17.

I was quite happy with my previous head unit Alpine F1 DVI 9990 and PXI990, I had the pleasure of running burrbrown for over 15 years until I sold it last year to move on with the new streaming technology and now with AKM or ESS. I heard that the AKM factory is being rebuilt and is underway and will soon see AKM products on the market again. From a review iI read the Fiio ESS version is a bit clearer in the sound, the only disadvantages I have heard is that the high frequencies can be a little too sharp with poor recording compared to M11 Plus LTD, but I still believe that both daps are equal in sound and that I takes the disadvantages with a pinch of salt. I believe in your philosophy my friend as you have said before that the best way to be sure of how things work is to test yourself and I am sure you will do so before you decide to choose between the two daps. I have seen that there are some online stores that still sell the LTD version.
@@high16200 The good old days of the great Burr Brown DAC’s. It’s too bad we can’t transport back in time for some of the great car audio decks and just great car audio in general and compare it to today. So far I haven’t been a big fan of the ESS DAC’s that I have tested in my products I have reviewed as they all sounded ok but were a little tinny in the high end. The M11 Plus LTD almost seems like an M11 Pro with the updated android 10 UI. But honestly I was pretty happy with just the regular M11 going coaxial out and never would have sold it if it was able to play Apple Music so will see what’s in my DAP future
@@CarAudioHorizons Yes! Dave those were the days with Burr brown, Wolfson, Delta sigma, Cirrus logic and more but I'm not so familiar with AKM and ESS until now. You are right that AKM is much appreciated by most hi-fi lovers, but I have not yet experienced the ESS products as I have been stuck with Alpine F1 for a very long time. My friend you are wise and I know you will soon find a dap that suits you well. :-)

Would this work being plugged into a car charger. Not the port you have but an external charger you plug in
It’s a USB DAC/Amp with only USB C input. A car charger is only going to power it, but that’s not going to do you any good without a source to play music.
I have the fiio k3 v2. On PC it works perfectly with the recent drivers. But on Android phones there is a lot of pop in the audio and I don't know how to solve it.
Some of the Fiio products have a slight pop when changing resolution from say 24/192 to 16/44.1 etc..
I have a dt770pro80ohm headset, can I connect the headset, and is the iPad 11pro card and their use of the pug game? I wonder how to connect, and whether the dack or the voice card comes out the power of the enough speaker, please reply, please

You just save me money. I had wanted to get the m15s mainly to play in my vehicle. I think I will get the k3 first and try it before before buying the m15s. If I'm happy with the k3 I will just keep it.
I would stay away from anything Fiio until we see what they bring out this year

With the M11 plus you dont need the HEC. You can put the M11 in HI RES Bluetooth receiving mode.. this will take the BT signal from your Iphone and covert it into hi res using the internal ESS DAC ...so use the same M11 connection to the DSP. However for any critical listening I would just use actual M11.... is has android 10.. so Its compatible with every single hi res streaming service available. Using the M11 plus... I cant even tell the difference between the internal hi res files I loaded...hi res streaming from amazon music hd and youtube music in its highest quality. For whatever reason the player makes everything sound great.... I do notice that UA-cam music has its own signature eq.... little boots on bass and treble... and call me crazy but for most of the music I listen too I actually prefer the sound Im getting from youtube music🤷♂️. You should do this test.....listen to music you have in your phone like flac files.... then compare to a hi res streaming service and youtube music. See what differences you notice. for me its very hard to tell the difference..... also did the 24/96 vs 24/48 hi res and failed to recognized the 24/96 "higher" sound quality.
You can’t convert a Bluetooth signal from an iPhone into Hi Res.
With an iPhone you have to use the Lightning to USB Camera kit with a wired product with a DAC that has LDAC or AptX HD then that will work but iPhone’s can’t output HI Res through Bluetooth. As shown in my previous video about the FiiO BTA30, which has LDAC, AptX HD.
When I mentioned testing the Helix Hec card I was referring to the USB Hec not the Bluetooth Hec.
I haven’t tested the paid UA-cam music so I’m not sure on their quality. I was big into Tidal before with my FiiO M11 up until Apple released lossless and here it’s $9.99 and Tidal was charging $19.99 so that’s what got me into testing these types of budget DAC’s with Coaxial Digital and Toslink outputs on them to see if I could get as good or better audio out of my iPhone. The M11 wouldn’t let you play Apple Music as the Samsung chip wouldn’t allow you to log in but obviously you know the new FiiO M11 Plus DAP’s do.
I have a lot of HD Tracks and Acoustic Sounds downloaded music but I find that the music streaming services that let you download the music sounds pretty much the same but it’s all based on the recordings I find on all the music. Having a good home system and car audio system is revealing and there’s a lot of bad recordings out there lol
@@CarAudioHorizons Unfortunately in BT receiving I just confirmed its limited to AAC with the iphone. However IMO its still better sound because the Fiio is still processing the audio with its internal DAC. Not sure if its actually doing anything to improve it tho.

So I am currently testing the Fiio M11 plus( ESS) and the Fiio M11 plus LTD( AKM) I have them both in my hands and running test in analog mode out to my Parasound P6 pre amp in my home set up, that way is easier to really tell the difference of the DAP's without messing around with the car set up. Ive only done some testing listening using Amazon music HD. So far the findings are that the M11 plus(ESS) seems to have a higher output voltage. By a lot.... like 5db louder than the LTD(AKM). ( ESS) version seems to be a bit more refined when it comes to top end details, however it comes at a cost.... the vocals are a bit thinner, not by a lot but just a tiny bit, but from the AKM version the vocals sound with a little more weight( thicker). Ill be making more test tomorrow and get a better idea.
That’s great you’re able to test both of them at the same time. I did hear on a couple reviews that besides the DAC being different the ESS was the louder of the two DAP’s. so did FiiO fix the issue with Amazon HD music showing everything being played as 24/192?
I was always a little hesitant on the ESS chips just because they’re kind of a second pick as chances are if the AK factory didn’t burn down they would still be using those chips in their DAP’s. But I also know that’s just part of the equation and the output stage and eternal components used is extremely important.
@@CarAudioHorizons The amazon output issue seems like its not fixed yet. The actual app shows the proper sampling rate… but the Fiio’s built in sampling rate display always says 192k.
Also very clear the Fiio M11 plus( ESS) has a better screen( at least in my copies). The contrast and colors are more vibrant in the new version. The android support its very nice… But for iphone users its going to feel a little slow and clunky on both versions (ESS and AKM) and the screen on both its still not comparable to the sharpness and quality of a modern hi end smart phone screen. But again this device was not build with this use in mind, so this does not bother me.What does bother me is the lack for wake up from the screen. You have to press one of the physical buttons on the side in order to wake up the DAP if it goes into sleep or standby
@@canillocanillo3371 I had issues with Amazon HD on many devices so I wouldn’t ever go back to it. Maybe I’ll check in out in a year as if you already have an Amazon account they’re the cheapest but they need to fix some of the issues.
@@canillocanillo3371 I would have liked to have see Fiio go with a 1080p screen like the Ibasso DX300, and DX240, unfortunately that’s not the case.
Both of those units cost more in Canada so I still think the FiiO’s M11 Plus LTD and ESS still offer the best value.

I haven’t listen to the Topping DX1 but Topping makes some decent products for sure. I will be testing a lot more of their products in the future.
They’re also due for a new version on the d10s which a lot of people use for their vehicles when they have a DSP. The SMSL PO100 Pro beats that though and it’s half the price.

Direct to what radio? Factory aftermarket? Does it have a 3.5mm input?

@@MrAlberto356 buying the Fiio K3 would be pointless in your situation. If you’re unhappy with the sound quality you have make sure the installation and tune is as good as it can get. Once that’s accomplished and you’re still not satisfied then you have to replace whatever the weak link is in your system is.

I bought the D10S and tried to connect it to the FIIO M11 PLUS via usb, but it didn't turn on :(
So I have no choice but to use it with the cell phone or with the laptop.
The improvement was noticeable, it significantly reduced noise via optical cable to my JL audio Vxi dsp.

ummm you sold your m11. I was going to tell you to try your fiio al k3 to see if they work together since my ideal is that the sound source always be a DAP and not a cell phone or a laptop.
The optic reduces all distortion and noise.
Are you running your Fiio M11 Plus via line out?

@@encisobravo1 You shouldn’t have any noise running into your JL Amps via Line Out as the Fiio M11 Plus has an extremely low noise floor. Even with my old M11 line out I never had any noise whatsoever.

Not sure as I haven’t tested the newer BTR5 but as far as Bluetooth goes I’m not a huge fan lol
the Cheaper K3 has toggle for UAC 1 and UAC 2 but not the more expensive Fiio K5 Pro that's just Stupid i guess they want you to buy Fiio K3 too if you want to use K5 Pro with consoles
The new K3 also has optical and coaxial digital outputs which work great if you have a DSP with digital inputs.
