I love it! I think maybe part of your feeling of “clutter” is that you’re going from completely blank walls to decorated walls and curtains. You’ll tweak it over time and make it more your own. Just lovely. And you’ve been carrying some heavy responsibilities all at one time, woman! Give yourself some credit and some kindness. Say to yourself the same thing you would say to your best friend if she were in your shoes.
I now declare “office-y” a real word. I make up new words all the time, partly because I’m old and can’t remember the “right” word, and partly because I think it’s fun! 😂 😘❤️

When I noticed you repotting the plants on the brand new carpet, I thought, "Oh my, she has to be neater than me to be able to do that." A few seconds later as you get the vacuum cleaner out, "Nope, we're birds of a feather." 😂🤣

Those curtains are VERY boho to me, and I agree that they add a travel theme. I think maybe the thing I could do without is the tassels, which are easy to remove if you wanted to. I like that they're basically very simple with just the addition of a few lines of pattern. It's what you were talking about, minimalist boho. SO cute!
Nolan is a gem
I agree, less is more. I think your family room turned out beautifully. I absolutely love the Tree of Life.
I was making my contribution for tomorrow's Sunday dinner (we all gather at my in-laws after church on Sunday and we take turns with the main part and bring sides and desserts when it's not our turn for the main) and the Lord brought your family to mind, so as I was preparing, I prayed for you - and your loved ones- and then I remembered that I did not comment. Sometimes, I watch and comment later.
First off, we got a KICK out of Xander singing Step Into The Water! He's so cute! Cultivate that singing, Mama - that's from someone who couldn't WAIT for her children to be old enough to sing along with hymns and Southern Gospel songs and they won't. Oh, most assuredly, they sing by themselves and they joke around...but they will not sing with my husband and me.
I think your living room space is perfect. It will never stay the same. We always add and take away and that's fine. Some things we always like and some lose our interest. I really like the green pops from the plants. I can't keep plants for anything! My mother had the greenest thumb I have ever seen. She was a waitress and the restaurant she worked for loved her because she would care for all their flowers and if one died, she'd bring it home and revive it. I look at plants and they wither. I really like the thought of having them. I grew up with many ALL OVER THE HOUSE, but I kill them and I feel extremely guilty for killing them. I even kill succulents.
I hope you and your family have a blessed Christmas! Xander is getting to the age where Christmas is really fun. I might get grief for this, but we didn't do Santa (we felt that Santa takes away from the real Christmas story) and while my husband and I grew up with Santa (my Dad even went so far as to go out on the roof and stomp around one year) the only thing we ever did was getting a picture with Santa (Smalltown grocery store had Santa by the door and they'd snap your picture) but the gift-giving and traditions that families have can be fun and when the children are old enough to understand, it's so neat to see. For a few years, we hid the kid's presents and we had a scavenger hunt with clues that they had to figure out. It sounds kinda funny, but we had a blast! They no longer want to do it that way, and that's fine. Needless to say, I pray that your Christmas is wonderful and give yourself some grace if you don't have a video this week.

Non glare glass can be cut for your picture frames if dust is an issue. We changed all the glass in picture frames and our 4 door bookcase to plexiglass when we had young boys as random things would fly around the room. Those were the good old days. They are grown and gone in such a short time. Thank you for showing us your home. Love the decor.
love bamboo plants..I would get a sea chest and use it as a coffee table, the 3 plants by the 1 window, I would do it in a half moon shape, instead of right across

Oh that collage is not cluttery at all. It helps that the colors are subtle so it's not shocking to the eye in any, it's more a place for the eye to rest. Also the way you grouped them close together makes them not too big and spread out. Great design!

You are a very talented decorator, in my opinion. I love all the thought you put into everything you put in your home. It shows and makes for a beautiful place for your great little family to spend many happy years. I know what you mean about being a single mother for a while. I have 4 children and since my husband travelled a great deal for his job I was in the same boat. I had all different age groups to deal with and being a stay at home Mom was harder than most jobs I can think of even though it is very important and rewarding.

Hi Janinne! I tend to get too cluttered with my wall decor and end up changing it out too. What I have in my head doesn’t always translate, haha! Let me reassure you... as a mom of four and a retired preschool teacher/director I always found age three to be the most independent age. They are learning SO much mentally, physically, and emotionally at this age. Testing is a huge part of this age. What can I get away with, how far can I push, and the tantrums are the only coping and stress release they understand. You’re doing an awesome job with such an inquisitive little boy. Hey don’t fret about the tremendous 3s. These are all phases in the creating of wonderful Xander. God knitted Xander together in your womb. Now Xander is experiencing life. For a 2-100 year old this can be difficult as we all need to follow rules that God, momma and daddy have for their children. These phases pass all to soon and then we miss it. Just pray for patience, strength and the ability to smile even though Xander is having a hard moment.

Lucky Bamboo is the curly stalky plant you have. They are pretty hard to kill, I have had the same one close to 20yrs. I've ignored it for most of that time and it's still with me. As long as it's in water and gets some light it should last for many years. Love your living room, simple and homey. You're better at decorating than you think❣️💞

You can get anti reflective glass for your frames.
Your room looks very nice. The one plant on the shelf is bamboo. I might put a table lamp on the table between the furniture under the map, so when the lamp is turned on the light that comes out the top would light up the map. I might move the spider plant with the babies to the other corner, and put the double macrame hanger in the corner by the map. I liked the clock on the wall, maybe elevate the bamboo on some books, or put it in a square plant holder, and put Tree of Life on the left side.

I think your on the right track for the boho theme. Add some natural wood colored items like a wooden plant stand, bench, end table and get a brass floor lamp and maybe an area rug. Yes, you can put a rug on a rug. Put a light colored throw blanket over the loveseat (because it’s the bigger of the two pieces of furniture) I’d also bring in more black from the curtains too with some Knick knacks. That bigger pillow would be great on the loveseat! You could also put the loveseat on the diagonal in the corner and put a table behind it with a lamp and plant on it. Check out Pinterest for ideas, you will see what I’m trying to explain. I’m no expert but I love to decorate!

You have a very nice style! The macramé is so pretty. I would suggest you work on the furniture placement. You might try moving the furniture away from the wall. I also think a simpler curtain style would suit the farmhouse better.
