Trench is known for concept albums, this song is technically a compilation of the entire album song-wise, but also a flashback to the previous album when he said face the music, which was the tour name of the tour previous to this album. The album before was a fairytale, finding his princess and saving her in many ways, but Astoria is about a broken relationship, and this final song of the album is about the journey of the album and how he survived it and came out on the other side. Fun fact as well, the entire album was recorded using instruments from the 80s or earlier to give it an authentic Astoria-goonies-80s feel. I highly suggest listening to the entire album to understand the story and the song even more!
I feel like a lot of reactors don't "get" their openers and closers because they're so diverse and always tell a whole musical story. It's so nice to see people who really appreciate that aspect. This song always makes me teary because Josh references a song (Alibis) from their first album. Alibis was about his heroin addiction and eating disorders and god-awful depression, and hearing him use a line from it again so many years later to express how he's feeling is a gut-punch. The two that make me actually cry, though, are Dearly Departed, which is about how he and his then-ex-fiancee spent what would have been their wedding night toasting the future they might have had, and Forget Me Not, which is about watching his mother descend into dementia. They both wreck me.

I think the members of this band have been heavily influenced by Queen's early works.
