    Might be interesting to you guys - Pickleball Poker is doing a trade in program right now. Trade in any old paddle and get a Gen 1 carbon fiber paddle for $35. Great cause, great deal! I ordered mine a few days ago. Not expecting too much from the paddle but seemed like a no brainer for a backup paddle 🤷🏼‍♂️

    Selkirk is sponsoring too many pros and not putting their funds into R+D any longer, their latest paddles are about 8 months to a year behind their competitors. Between painted on grit that lasts 2-4 weeks to a paddle others have had out for quite sometime and sell for less….

    Hey John. Love the podcast. Since you mentioned you love Kevlar. Here in Florida we love Kevlar paddles we have them all and we noticed that in the mornings with the humidity the paddles look and feel that the face of the paddle sweets and loses spin. I don’t know if you can check and test on that.

    It is crazy how much electrical tape does affect the swing weight. i see it on my Brifiddi too. A few weeks ago i was shocked as well. Also im a single hand player and I tend to cut .50-.75 of the handle off. At first i did it to reduce static weight before i realized it was probably unnecessary, but now playing with an uncut version of the same paddle I do see the difference in either raising the B point or moving the sweetspot higher in the paddle face..

  • @cvh3367
    @cvh3367 20 днів тому

    Hey John! Which edge tape were you using that gave you the +5 SW? I've experimented with using PBEffect edge tape around the top edge, as well as recently trying the Bodhi edge tape around the entire perimeter which to me hasn't felt like too crazy of an increase, but I don't have a briffidi and it might be a combination of using widebody paddles with relatively minimal tungsten and a hesacore.

    My BIG Question: How fast is too fast for Pickleball? We know it’s a light weight plastic ball, but 99% of players are Amateurs and aren’t going to enjoy the game as much when relatively soft swings produce 50mph returns.

    • @trumpisastump9382

      @@trumpisastump9382 perhaps I should revise my statement 😂 , 99% of us are amateur players, and after playing against a gen 3 paddle, how fast is too fast? At 8 feet away from an opponent, a strong smash is unreturnable for most.. if that speed is achieved in hand battles it becomes a different game.

    This question probably relates more to a couple episodes ago, but with your updated website with regards to the metrics, what indicates a paddle’s control? Is there a score for that? For example, the Luxx has very high control, but seems to score “poorly” in all categories on the metrics presented

    With the Slyce Cap + Hesacore is the balance point lowered even more so that adding the fixed lead tape at that point would tip it too much back to the head if you put it in the spot you did on your other video?

    3S is officially available for pre-sale. Can you break down who would be the market for these and what you can and cannot play in (events) with these? I can't even find a listing of upa-a approved paddles. Would be curious to see what else Joola has "approved". Also, the genesis of the upa-a, already feels a little dirty- It seems they would have done themselves a PR favor by not having Joola as their first and only customer. It looks to me like Joola has bankrolled a new agency under the biggest pickleball mothership. No conflicts here?

    • @johnkewpickleball
      @johnkewpickleball  21 день тому

      For sure, the optics are bad for UPA on this. I'll wait until I hit with them to judge who they're for, but as of right now, they're only UPA approved, so they can be played by pros at PPA and MLP, and by amateurs for rec play, or any tournament that's not associated with USAP (e.g., WPT)

    • @Doublehelixpickleball

      @@johnkewpickleball This whole situation is just baffling...
      1. Gen 3 delisted
      2. Joola so miffed, they seemingly climb into bed (further?) with the company that is quickly owning all of pickleball.
      3. UPA-A is born as a subsidiary of "mega-pickleball", but trust us, everything is altruistic because we incorporated as a "non-profit".
      4. First and only listing is "new" Joola despite no public database or infrastructure to support their new venture. But they approve Joola.
      What happens when no other manufacturer agrees to pay the fees and participate in the USA-A? Pretty tough to be the governing body of paddles with 1 manufacturer...

    Thanks guys - great pod as always - finally have my Shapeshifter on the way - John, back on your initial review of the Shapeshifter you modified it with the slyce and 5g total tape - you said you were hoping to experiment by doubling that to 10g total to see if it improved the performance or whether that amount of weight was too much of an increase in swing weight - did you ever try that out? My guess is that the Slyce feel will negate any negative impact of the extra weight and the result would be improved performance - just curious to know if you ever got around to it. THANKS - this game is more fun because of what you guys do! Paul
