- In this video I fished at Santa Ana river lakes for their last trout stocking of the season. I fished the lake on a Sunday and the crowd was surprisingly low. The trout fishing was good using bait and artificial lures.

Cool and right around the corner from my house. Normally my policy is 'Never fish any place with a parking lot' LOL but I might hae to make an exception in this case...
I'ts close by to us as well. The crowds are pretty heavy on the weekends but weekdays should be good to go. I haven't fished there since last year, but thinking about going soon.
Trying to get out there whats the best day I here it gets crowded...
Yeah this place gets packed especially on the weekend. Best bet for less of a crowd would be mon-wed. Did you end up going?

If you don't mind, what day was it that you were there at S.A.R.L.? Also, you mentioned the last day of stocking at the lake in 2023. What did you mean by that??
Don’t mind at all. Thanks for watching. I was there on May 14. Santa Ana river lakes had their last trout stock on May 11th for the season. They switched over to a weekly stock of catfish now.

Nice man. Question tho...I just rigged up my poles with ultra clear 12lb test line and im going tommrow to fish for trout early morning and catfish later probably. I haven't seen problems with 12lb test line as long as it's clear but what do you think
From what I’ve seen, trout fisherman typically stay around 2-6lb test. I usually use 4lb test. I need the lighter line because I would be able to get more distance when casting my small lures that are as low as 1/32oz (mini jigs). Even at 4lb test they don’t go very far. If l’m using bait I can toss it out far if I want to with a small 1/4oz weight. In the higher elevations also, they can see the line and sometimes get spooked. If that’s working for you, I can’t really dispute that. But If you run into issues you can always add a lighter leader line. Good luck fishing! I’ll probably try for some catfish soon too. I don’t even remember the last time I’ve caught a catfish. Let me know how your fishing trip goes.

Trout stocking starts up Nov 9 but they are closed on the stock day. Right now it’s all still catfish. I think they just had the last catfish stock yesterday. I’ll be out there again in a couple weeks.

Linker trout in an artificial lake is as nasty as it gets. But to each is own. Obviously many a folk enjoy this activity.
