Have hired hundreds of candidates from some of the most reputed institutes in India. Always prefer someone who does not waste time, is clear about what he / she is saying and does not beat around the bush.
In this case a plain and simple "I am not proficient in this topic, but I am willing to learn" is the best answer

@@jahanara8473 someone who use lot of fillers to define something is called blabbering! Answer should be straight to the point! It’s oral interview right? You’re not answering and 10 marks question right!? Then why unnecessary words?! Then that person is not efficient in communication! In most of the companies client would be from different countries especially western countries! They will find hard to understand our accent itself! Despite that, if someone gives a loooong answer and the client has to search for the appropriate words in that answer then there must be a dissatisfaction!

I am interviewing people since past 4 years for their final round and absolutely okay when some once accept about not having knowledge. Rather since past 1 year I am observing that with such online tack ticks candidates are giving polished interviews but don't have skills for actual role and neither willing to learn further. More then clearing interview people should focus on skill building which is more important to retain and enjoy your work journey.

In one of the interviews I was hired for, I was asked if I know anything about affiliate writing. I honestly stated that I know about it thereotically but have never written an affiliate content, but I am keen to learn about it. Then they asked what is affiliate marketing, and I gave a proper answer. Similarly, in the previous company I worked for, I was asked if I know how to design Facebook ad campaigns. I politely said I haven't done it practically, but would learn it for sure. So, it's always better to be honest and let the HR know you are an enthusiastic person, eager to learn different things.

I work for a US MNC and an interviewer too. Usually I am always on deadlines and have to rush to another meeting right after the interview. I would straightaway ask for a crisp answer if the interviewee tries this lengthy approach, and I won't think twice to reject the candidate at the moment without wasting a single more minute if she continues to beat around the bush. I love straight forward, crisp and honest answers.

Usually people don't apply for roles in which they don't have a practical knowledge base. And if you list skills other than what the role needs be prepared to answer them. You could always say I'm in the learning phase and as my past experience has shown I'm a quick learner and can easily adapt. Give examplws of this. Even with this long answer, you can get rejected if their main requirement is that particular skill, organizations prefer someone who already have those skills than someone on whom they have to invest time and money to train them. And if you answer that you are currently learning they will ask the level of knowledge if you are a beginner or intermediate, you will get straightly rejected if you are a beginner, if you answer intermediate they will ask questions and if you fail to answer then reject.

Just say you don't know and if given a chance you can certainly work as you are already working on related technologies. Although, even before that don't lie on your resume and read the job requirements carefully. If you have time and the skills you don't know are listed in the requirements, learn the basics or as much as you can before appearing for the interview. Tell them you haven't got a chance to work on that skill but you know the basics.
