    I like that he is inadvertently saying that the videos must be real. If he thinks the curvature is the same because Earth is flat, then that means in his mind we must be looking at the real horizon. If he now claims the videos are fake, then what would the horizons even have to do with it? He's gotten himself stuck with that one.

    All circles can be perfectly overlapped if zoomed in or out enough.
    I learned that in mid school.
    Every single 2D or 3D object that has all angles and sides equal to each other are equivalent to different sized objects that share the same name.
    For example, all squares are equivalent to eachother. Same for all cubes, spheres, circles, equilateral triangles, dodecahedrons, whatever.
    Zooming in on a picture of earth to make it match on itself just proves that you're looking at a sphere.
    You can make a golf ball curvature match the curvature of a basketball, pool ball, moon, and earth. Assuming they're all perfect circles.

  • @mikefochtman7164
    @mikefochtman7164 Рік тому +21

    One of the KEY factors in all these 'curvature video/photos' is the field of view. Cameras can have many different lenses with different focal lengths. One with a large focal length will have a narrow field of view (FOV). Thus, it will only cover a few degrees from side to side, while a short focal length can give an FOV wider than the human eye (human eye typical FOV is about 130 degrees (each eye).
    So depending on the FOV of the device (camera-lens combination or human eyeball) you might see as little as only 10 degrees across the frame to more than 100. This means the amount of the earth you can see in one frame depends not only on the altitude but the FOV. This affects how much of the 'curvature' you get in a frame (assuming no barrel distortion at all).
    Comparing the ISS video with the James May U2 video without knowing the details of the cameras is pretty much useless.

    • @paulsilsby5355
      @paulsilsby5355 Рік тому +1

    • @nclimey
      @nclimey Рік тому +3

      @@paulsilsby5355 Why would he want to confuse himself with facts? There are loads of videos showing the Earth's curvature. I wonder how many he went through until he found one where the altitude/FOV gave about the same amount of curvature as the ISS video.
      And then the concussion is "the curvature is due to optics" But no explanation the optical effect here, or of how you get the solar panels optically in a straight line below the "optically" curved Earth and then more solar panels in a straight line above the "optically" curved Earth.
      That is one really weird camera lens.
      But who cares about facts and reality - cherry-pick and handwave. That's how to Flerf.

    The amount of visible curvature does not only depend on altitude, but also on the focal length used. If the 2 shots don't use the same focal length, you must not compare the curvatures. Think about: If you zoom in on the ISS footage, the horizon will stretch out. So it's no problem to make the horizon almost straight from the ISS while from the plane with a wide angle lens the horizon appears much more curved.

  • @RavenFilms

    I literally spit out my tea from laughing when he said you can’t have the same curve from both those locations. To the scale of a planet, the 2 locations have a difference in perspective that you would expect to see if looking at a fire hydrant a half block away and then looked at it again after taking one step forward. Yes, technically there is *a* difference, but you aren’t really going to notice it. You would expect it to look the same.

Like if you clip out 10% of the centre of one of the clips and stretch it to the frame there will be much less curvature from the same clip.

    It's like, everything with them is selective. They have this vibrant imagination, imagining all kinds of nefarious plots of devious societies but when you ask them to imagine these simple thing that explain their objection adequately, now all of the sudden they just can't even imagine such a thing. They tell you not to trust books and to perform your own experiments in the interest of good science and questioning established principles but when you suggest they design an experiment that correctly utilizes the scientific method it's all "Oh I don't have time for that.". It's always "Do your research!" but really it's "Do the right kind of research. The kind you find in the dark little corners of the internet. The kind that points to my prefered conclusion." On some level, they simply MUST know that they're being dishonest and biased and not seeking the best truth but rather their own prefered truth.
    How can a single human mind have such a tangled web of cognitive dissonance that helps to support misinformation that helps to support lies that feed their ego? For example, in order for flat earth to be true, space needs to be fake which means there's a systematic plot levied by forces unknown to deceive the ENTIRE population about fundamental models of reality spanning centuries, and no one has any idea who they are or anything about them except MAYBE they have some connection to the 15th century secret society called the Illuminati. The two most powerful countries in the world in the middle of the 20th century were both extremely bitter rivals, ideologically opposed to each other, amassing huge numbers of nuclear weapons to shoot at each other with the most dire of all consequences, yet they were both in on the plot to protect the secret of the flat earth and they both pulled off huge numbers of hoaxes that began with Sputnik and ended with Apollo including a large number of failures that were national embarrassments, just to keep that worthless secret that does no one any good.

    If the two images do not have an identical angle of view, comparing curve shapes is bonkers from the start, as the amount of curvature available obviously increases with angle. Additionally, it is hard do see how wide a FOV the image from the airplane has, but to me it looks wide angle, meaning that for a horizon line above the center line, the small amount of potential distortion might add a bit to the curvature of the horizon line.

    The other thing you fail to mention here is that not every camera has the same field of view. So to make a direct comparison you need not just a similar rectilinear lens, but the same field of view. I don't believe either aspect is the same in these two videos.

    Take the diameter of the Earth, divide it by the diameter of a basketball. Let's call that number X.
    Take the height of that Russian space station and divide it by X. Let's call that result Y.
    If you take a camera and take a photo Y distance away from a basketball, and then superimpose the new basketball image onto the space station footage, the curvature of the Earth should match the curvature of the basketball.
    QED: All basketballs are flat.

      Ohh they don't believe in planets, just lights. Space is fake and gravity is might. Reflection exist when convenient and it doesn't when it's not. Sextants prove flat earth when they were created on the assumption of a curve.
      Don't read too much into it, Flat Earth is a joke.

    LEO other than his usual “all lies” rant ignores that the ISS non fisheye photo shows the Earth is curved! James May went up in a U2 plane. He saw curvature. U2 pilots see curvature. The camera took a video of a curved Earth!

  • @Kualinar
    @Kualinar Рік тому +4

    Whatever the lens used, any line going thru the centre is never distorted. If it curves, then, it is a curved line.
    That's LEO, the guy who have only denial and incredulity as his arguments. Looser Extreme Overboard.
    The two shots are from VERY different cameras. A narrow angle for the one from the ISS and a wide angle for the one from the U2 plane. Their field of view are very different. Then, LEO do some scaling to make the curves match.
    #GottaLieToFlerf after all.

    • @cynodont7391
      @cynodont7391 Рік тому

      Indeed. All circles are equivalent and can be overlapped by changing their size (so either the camera focal length or during post-processing by scaling the images). There is no such thing as "an amount of curvature". When looking at a circle the only meaningful measure is its angular size. [insert here the famous clip "These are small (cows) but the ones out there are far way"]
