Most fans are working for 30k-80k per year have a zero tolerance workplace. Most AFL players on 100k-1.5m per year have 3 strikes (when caught) and clubs hiding players with non existing injuries so they don't have to be tested.

In 10 years everyone will have helmets. AFL will demand it to stop being sued. Clubs for same reason plus won't want to lose players regularly for concussion protocols and also risk losing guys permanently. New helmets are being tested and are likely to reduce concussion.

An extreme solution to handle the drugs problem is they can do it anonymously, by giving the players their privacy and help they need with counseling and whatever else can possibly be offered for mental health. If caught using illicit drugs though, there should be an immediate suspension on the player's salary for a fixed amount of time. Watch how quickly they'll stop if you go after their money.

The amount of AFL players on drugs is a lot higher than society for the demographic of people who get paid $300K and above. The AFL and media is scared to say ir but quietly they know it is true. Now that Ben Cousins has rehabilitated , the AFL would be derelict not to seek his advice. It would be great for Ben to give back to the game when he was almost lost to the game.
The shape of the ball is an issue it causes players to change trajectory more than the round ball and the additional Inertia an directional changes put too much pressure on the body and players have less time to react combined it creates abnormal incidence and we have to slow the game down. More one on one contests rather than the pack culture the modern game dictates. It's like a Paris roundabout the longer you are in there the more likely you are to have an accident. The Afl will never stop head knocks entirely when the game is played at today's pace that is expecting too much of players, so design the game around the modern conditions, use a round ball to allow players to run at the ball in a single direction, take bumping out only tackles can be done. International rules would work over here if adopted and it is only so long we can maintain the game before the legal sharks destroy it so why not be a step ahead and develop a separate league of each club fielding an international rules team of 12 players on the ground in a separate league with a round ball game. At least that would be a start and see where it goes from there. The alternative is that for legal reasons we will have no footy at all in 20 years.
I used to love footy classified until Richmond started winning premierships - but as soon as the sensationalism wasn't there of them being a crap club I noticed they stopped talking about them - the media is totally overplaying all these things - how would we hear about them if they weren't? The cap is there - players aren't bankrupting clubs so they aren't in control - the majority of them are underpaid for the amount of responsibility put on them and the absolute damage to their bodies over 15 years. They are not role models - they are football players.
