      I say Yes!! Belichik was playing games with Malcom Butler? Malcom is a free agent in March. He and his agent will want Stephon Gilmore money and Belichik wanted to show that we can win w/o you Malcom............AND? They could not. Nice Belichik this one ranks right up with 2008 against NYG.

      Al Capwned It’s kind of annoying
      that no one on this panel is crediting Nick Foles for calling the “Philly Philly.” Yes Doug was ultimately the one who gives the go ahead but Saint Nick had the confidence to not only suggest the play; but to perfectly execute it as well. In the NFL film about Superbowl 52 when Foles suggests the play... you can see Doug visibly pause, take a moment “or two rather” to weigh the risk vs the reward, then eventually agree. I wish someone on this panel would have mentioned that but perhaps none of them knew. Maybe they need to watch UA-cam more and check out the in-depth NFL films about the games before they debrief lol!

    Super Bowl 52 is arguably the greatest football game ever played. I am not an Eagles fan, on the contrary. I am a Patriots fan! And have been since 1999. But I have seen every Super Bowl since Super Bowl 20, that the Patriots have been in. And even though we lost in both. The one in Super Bowl 52 is the greatest! It was a David and Goliath story. People like Steve Van Buren, Concrete Charlie Bednarik, and Norm van brocklin would be proud. Philadelphia is great again!

      The Patriots season ended how it started. They gave up 41 in the season opener to KC and they gave up 41 to Philly in the Super Bowl.... In between they found ways to win games they probably should have won and took advantage of timely calls that went in their favor. Their luck ran out in Minneapolis. The question is whether the NE millennium dynasty as we know it is over? Time will tell...

    I wonder what play Pederson was actually thinking of calling? We know now that Foles was the one who asked for the play and Pederson agreed. It was the aggressiveness of Foles and the trusting of his quarterback by Pederson. Team work!

    • @knight6
      @knight6 3 роки тому +1

      According to Chris Maragos in a podcast in Feb 2021, Doug wanted to call a speed option left. That means that Foles would run to his left and either go into the endzone himself or pitch it out to Clement if defenders ran to face him. He may have possibly pass to someone open if he couldn’t run into the endzone and Clement was covered well, though a speed option is usually either a QB run or a lateral pitch to a RB.

    • @melissah8415
      @melissah8415 3 роки тому +1

      @@knight6 Thanks for the info. Bet the Pats would have expected something like that.

    • @knight6
      @knight6 3 роки тому +1

      @@melissah8415 Patriots probably would have stopped that speed option play, even if they didn’t expect that Foles could run it in. Clement may have ran it in as the Eagles OL was nasty in that win, though Phily Special was the best choice. Interestingly enough, Doug wanted to call Phily Special against the Vikings in the NFC Championship game, but Foles said his leg was a bit dinged up (not seriously) and not run that play. They were up so big anyways so they didn’t need it.

    I always say this about teams playing the Pats with inconsistent QBs. You can't afford to settle for FGs. You won't stop the Pats enough to win with FGs. There's no point on taking them. Then there's the chance you miss which makes it even worse.
    You will most likely lose if you can't get it in the endzone so either go for it and fail and lose, kick it and lose or go for it and get it and win.

    Carter makes an excellent point: PETERSON used his roster. Which is to say, PETERSON knew which tool(s) from the toolbox to use for the very particular "broken thing".
    And what WAS the broken thing??
    I SHOULD HAVE SIX POINTS, but the Patriots defense is gumming up my want.
    Like a transmission mechanic says, "I want this car to shift smooth, so I need this, this, and this tool to make it so."

      Receivers often check in with officials before the snap to make sure their alignment is considered OK. And as long as that happens, the player isn’t going to be called for creating an illegal formation. Jeffery does that on this play. You can see him clearly point toward an official and, almost surely, get clearance for his placement. With Jeffery getting cleared, they have 7 men on the line, making it a legal formation.

      Michael Davenport i have played and do know the rules of the game. and i understand that alshon looks to have checked with the ref, but he was a whole yard and a half behind the line and half a yard behind the tackle! to me you cant allow that as a legal reciever and call it on a nother team they should just get rid of the rule then!
