    Hi, love the Great Dane content. I've had Great Danes my whole life and these principals you've talked about have always worked. They worked in a situation that there was a home environment with a yard and then the lease and walking were learned over time. The situation I find myself in now is that I live in an apartment in a major city with a Great Dane puppy. From day 1 we needed to have her on lease walking to go to the bathroom or go anywhere. There are always distractions, and when we go to the park to play she is either on the lease, or walking a quarter mile to the off lease dog area. I'm having a tough time distinguishing when it's time to walk nicely on the lease and giving her some freedom to explore and use the bathroom since she is always on the leash.

    Most informative video I've seen from you, Sir and thank you for sharing. The person commenting that you should get to the point is rude, ignore them, you're doing great work.

    Only ever had 1 dog I didn't get to heel .. but it was life that did it, we got him a month before hubby was diagnosed with cancer, and neither he nor I had the energy to put in all the work we should have.
    Next guy, we'll find the energy!

    I have followed a lot of this and works well in some circumstances but when we are out, she pulls to see dogs, or my son walking ahead etc in quiet areas she is great. Hard in real world to not go to more busy places as you train ie sooner than you might like. My Weineramer was the same, always wanted to be ahead. You use a slip knot but vets say not to unless you are an expert. I bought your course and she is good in many ways but hard not to go to busy places. She is very keen on other dogs

    HI! Love this channel. Just a question. How does your method of not using the lead unless the puppy is at heelwork if you are tethering the puppy to you during the day?

    I played this heel training "game" with my nearly 12 week old great dane today. Ive had him for 4 days. He has already learned sit, lay down, and touch in that time. However, this was different. He immediately connected with me in a more positive way (he didn't come from the best situation and is fearful). It is as if he started to smile. I could of sworn I could FEEL him smile during the heel session and he LOVED it. Thankfully, I live out in the country and I can exercise him off-lead on our 15 acres. So I shouldn't have to put a lead on him for awhile. I'm excited because teaching a dog to heel has always been the hardest thing for me! Potty training is a breeze because I pick up easily on changes in behavior... but heeling 😶.
    I have more confidence in my leadership ability now and I wanted to give you a good job comment! 👏

    Awesome video dude! My little 7 month old is starting to be a handful on the leash. If you have any suggestions for stopping the tug of war with the leash that would be super helpful

    If you have I’ll try and look for it.. but can you speak about Bloat and Great Danes, and how it can be prevented.. because A Great Dane is my choice of dog but breaks my heart at how short their life spans are and a big cause is because of bloat:( any advice/information would be appreciated as all the information I’ve came across is most certainly a death sentence:(

    What you are saying makes sense but I am confused about one thing. If I should ONLY use the lead when training, What do I do about the times when I have to just take her out to go to the bathroom? I don't have a fenced yard so I can't just let her run.

  • @josephkouts4028

    So how often or how long to do this

    • @fenrirgreatdaneshow7694
      @fenrirgreatdaneshow7694  3 роки тому +3

      It's best to do this on each walk and try to extend the amount of time each time you do it. Keeping training consistent will help your pup pick up the desired behaviour and you should start to see the results. Hope training goes well!

    Hey Boss - love your videos. I actually have a unique situation in that I have TWO great dane puppies - 1 male, 1 female, born Aug 20. Any help with my situation? We are working on basic commands. But walking them both on a leash together is a hit and miss experience.
