How to build a simple 4 'x 8' storage shed under $380 dollars

- DIY affordable storage shed, build your shed under $380 dollars, this storage shed was built with minimum wood and materials, it is a strong solid shed that will last for many years. It is recommended to raise the subfloor framing so that it does not touch the ground, I didn't want to obstruct my window, that is why I had to dig a little bit to build the subfloor below ground level, pressure treated wood will last many years, however, you should raise the structure above ground level using your concrete step stones. The total cost of this project was $374.29 before taxes.

Would be nice if you include the tools such a nail gun model and size of nails and screw you used to build that shed for people never used those tools,
😭
Per your request I have included all the tools I used, you can find them under the "product" tag on the video.
@@NumberDZthis is quality. Thanks bro. Literally what the internet was made for
I'm glad my video was helpful.
For real! Some of these people are assholes..damn do you want him to come build it for you to?? Jeez
Thank you so much for this video! Looks nice and I can't wait to try it.
So many of these "shed" project vids turn out to be $10K broom closets with guys working w a freaking pro-shop stuffed with all kinds of equipment because they're really just promotional videos for Home Depot or are sponsored by a green tool company. This is the best real-life (cost in mind) actual shed vid I've seen. Awesome stuff.
Thank you for watching 🫡
I like this build. It is very simple and easy for me to copy and add some tweaks for the shed that I will be adding to my son’s farm. A steeper pitch for snow loads in my area. Thanks so much for sharing it!
Thanks for watching, make sure to hit that like button.
Well done. Clean, simple, and easy to follow. Allows anyone to customize to their own set up. Thanks for sharing this.
Glad it was helpful!
A few months ago I was watching your k5 gt line videos and now, unknowingly, I’m watching this. I just realized scrolling through your vids that “hey that’s the same guy with the k5!!!” Great video subscribed
I’m glad you like my mixed content lol thanks for the sub.
Thanks!
Thank you 🙏 much appreciated it.
no slope for the roof? where will rainwater go? also, about the hinges, you should have installed them in a hidden way so the screws are no exposed while locked - more secure.
I am amazed he didn't know 6" of the front of the shed.
It is sloped.
Do you have a list of supplies to buy to build this shed?
I gotta build one of these to house my haunted house panels; I've left them out year round for years and now I'm going to have to junk a lot of the wood and not once did I think, 'hey build a fricken' shed to keep your wood for years and years.' fun project coming up!
Yeah you should do it before you waste more material, it's pretty easy to do.
I was so mad you were blocking the window but then you didn't, lol. This is very helpful, thank you.
You're welcome!
this is what I plan to build this spring, but with the door on the side instead of the front. Well done
I was also planing on putting the door on the side but after you start putting stuff in it, it gets difficult to reach the stuff all the way in the back, if you build it wider like 6’x 8’ you will have enough space to go around.
@@NumberDZ thats a good point
Thank you for sharing this build. Easy and with basic tools.
I'm glad you found it helpful!
This is cool, might have to build this for my ducks, my first coop sucks lol, this will be perfect for them
Nice, simple, practical and reasonably priced! Thanks for this great idea I just may have to copy. ❤️🇨🇦
You’re welcome, thanks for watching
This would need proper siding where I live. That OSB sheeting wouldn't last long with the amount of rain we get.
Yes, this OSB is not very friendly with excessive rain.
Thanks man. I just did mine m to my 2 or 3 partial days to get the materials and stuffs.
Nice, did you build it in the same style as this one or did you make some changes?
Well I have 2 complaints, the first is that you dug it below grade, making for a place for water to gather and rot your floor. Second the pitch of the roof is very slight and in a heavy rain storm water will back fill and hit that window and back wall and run between the house and shed rotting that back wall. Otherwise I like the build, it is simple and easy to do, makes for a great storage place for gardening tools and stuff you need to store away for winter. I hope you take my complaints as constructive criticism, in hope to do it better in the future. I like that you added vents with a smaller mesh screen to keep bugs out and let hot air out of the shed. I also like how you did the roof, over all its a great build and design. So good job.
The base framing is below grade, however, there's good slope around it, the water does not pool in that area, it flows away from it.
The roof pitch may not be visible in the video, however, in person you can clearly see that the front section is lower compared to the back, the rain water drains perfectly fine towards the front, we have had heavy rain and no water goes towards the back wall.
Thanks for your feedback 👍 don't forget to subscribe.
@@NumberDZI have another complain , I’m not the expert this seems reasonable about how flows the water, just wondering about the guard on the grinder, that disc looks dangerous, and for sure I’ll try to do a similar shed for my backyard, would be great if you share how many material you bought for it and the kind of tools you have used, thx!
And particle board
@@orlandonunez5761 using the grinder without the protection is dangerous, however sometimes the protector gets on the way that’s why I removed it. I have included all the tools I used for this shed, you can find them under the “product” tag on the video.
Good shit guys
I like how you got straight to the point. You designed it to your liking. Great job bro.
Thank you
Comming from a seasoned framer, well done.
That was extremely efficient build even for a 4x8 , I don't know that the blocking was structurally necessary but definitely Dosent hurt and will be handy for utility inside ike hanging hooks, brackets etc. my only I Guess 'critique' is why you doubled up the stud on the front wall facing the backyard, I mean I get why you did it, so that that side of the door is 3½" finished instead of just 2" and my thought was that you may add a door latch later and you wanted some more meat for it however with just a lock hasp it probably isn't necessary but it does look better, what I would have done is rather than double that corner I would have made it an an outside facing L because you'd use the same amount of lumber but that outside corner would be even more substantial, instead of a finished 3½" it would have been a finished 5". Small thing mostly a matter of preference at that point it's not as if the price of one 2*4 makes a real difference so I can see why you wouldn't just put a single there.
What type of plywood did u use and what type of lumber did u use ?
Fantastic job on editing, audio and content. Will def use as a reference for my own build!
Awesome, thank you!
@@NumberDZ No, Thank You my man! Appreciate you sharing your knowledge and helping all of us! Take care my man!
Thanks in advance, wanna build one for my garden tools
You'll have your tools organized in no time!
i became fan of your detailing man...just toooo good... just wish you would have made it a more weather protected for area where it rains and snow a lot...
This is perfectly fine for where I live, we don’t get that much rain and it doesn’t snow, but you can do the necessary adjustments for your area.
Thanks for watching 🫡
Is there a way to put the hinges on the inside for the door and lock so that the shed is more secure?
They sell different hinges that are more secure, you can find them at your local hardware store.
This shed was over 1k not too long ago! I priced one out to build myself when lumber was high!
Yes, that is why I waited a few months to get it done, the lumber price was crazy expensive no so long ago.
I don’t get why you’d do it right where there’s a cool windowBUT just gave me a great idea for a greenhouse/shed !
The window is not obstructed by the shed, additionally the shed is not visible from the inside looking out the window.
Just the size I plan on building onto my shed after I clear out a wasp nest in the ground. Fun getting stung lol.
Did you start the project already?
Great job, 1 complaint.... I dont feel like getting up from the couch right now
Lol thanks for watching.
Would you go with primed siding and home wrap next Time ? Might add another buck but is it worth it?😊
The life of the back wall would probably be extended significantly if you prepainted before installing it. Even in Cali, stuff will blow in there, and some moisture will accumulate and rot it. A couple coats of paint is easy insurance on a $400 investment.
I’d also add a 2x4 to the middle of each sheet. $20 seems worth the extra durability.
Far best the best shed video I have seen
Thank you 🫡
Name of the paint/plaster applied on the osb?
Was curious to know if this adds on to the square footage of the house? Does a permit need to be pulled?
so far this is the best video, what boards do you use for walls and floor? thanks
You made my day. Now I can start my pending project. Gracias
Wonderful! Thanks for watching
When people build houses, I see them put house wrap and siding on the OSB panels. Will painting those and leaving them exposed to the weather prematurely wear?
Nice work plain and simple I'm ready to do one now.
Very simple project anyone can do. Thanks for stopping by
Amazing. I have been inspired. I will create one this weekend. Thank you
Thanks for watching.
Fantastic video! Great job for a no nonsense shed...and it was good you added the vents 👍
Glad you liked it!
most skillful lead to simplest, you did a great job, Buddy.
Thank you kindly!
I’m gonna do this. I work construction so materials will be free. I take it the 2x4s don’t need to be pressure treated?
They don't need to be pressure treated, but if you want to extend its useful life, you can use pressure treated.
@@NumberDZ awesome! Cause I’m pretty sure the ones I get from builders aren’t treated
pretty smart, minimal cuts. i like it.
Glad you like it!
Why did you use OSB instead of plywood? That was a mistake due to susceptibility to moisture. Seal it real good on the inside too!
Probably price (osb cheaper) is it possible for the paint to seal osb(waterproof and humidity proof it)? I guess the idea is something not expensive and not forever (I can deal with spending $400 and replacing it maybe after 10 years )
You're absolutely correct, that is the main purpose of this video 🫡
Perfectly simple and something I feel I can build.
Go for it!
I really like the way you both used and held the level as a rip guide. Imma use that, thanks. Probably when I copy this shed. :)
Glad it helped! Good luck on your project.
How was it that you had extra space for the plywood to meet precisely. Is the shed under 4' x 8'
I am planning to build this shed soon. I love it.
Newbie here so please be kind. Why it is necessary to stack 2 pieces of 2x4’s on the top of the walls? Thanks
ok in you video i saw first you install the roof closer strips at front, then few minutes later the strips are just install on the back. so where install then?
It was an error editing the video but I installed them on both ends.
Hello is this waterproof?
🔺 Cool and simple shed! I’m taking notes because I want to build one for my next UA-cam project in my channel. Thanks for sharing 👍
Awesome! Thank you!
Nice build, I would have used primed T111 and a better quality floor base...
What kind of paint are you using? and how long it last (before need another repainting job??? many thanks.
what kind of nail gun is that? i don't see it in your list of products
Very nice , good job and thanks, I’m building my own 🤞🏼
Thanks for watching.
How has that OSB held up? I'm sure in my part of the country it would be rotten within a year.
So far so good, it’s still looking good.
You must live in a dryer warmer area. This would not work where I live. First, needs more drainage under the shed. Secondly, not nearly enough pitch to the roof. Lastly, the fiberglass roof is not sufficient for snow loads. Otherwise it's fine considering the price and care to detail used in building your lean to shed.
Is the paint waterproofing? Or would the plywood be fine in the rain anyways?
Well, that is against code where I live. Cannot be within 10 feet of an existing structure.
Where do you live?
What paint did you use?
never seen those plastic wavy things for the roofs before. Those are nice. Do you remember what they call them>? I have seen foam ones but they degrade over time.
Home Depot sells them, look for “Polycarbonate Corrugated Roof Panel” mine are 26 inches x 12 ft.
That polycarbonate roof is available in 4x8 sheets also.
And of coarse there is a price difference between the 4x8 sheets and the smaller ones.
But once you buy those plastic inserts and the screws to attach the smaller ones.
You end up spending more than if you just bought the 4x8 sheet.
My local Home Depot doesn't carry 4x8, otherwise I would have bought that size
@@NumberDZ
Mine doesn't either.
do you have a material list break down
I wanna hire him for my project in Arizona
You are too far buddy
Good video, but I have a question: if the front of the shed is lower than the back, how is it possible that the boards covering the front weren't cut in height?
I did cut them.
Simple cost effective solution I like it my friend.
Thanks 👍
Excellent build! Good idea putting a screen behind that vent, as wasps and hornets would be coming and going. :-)
Thanks for watching.
How much did you cut off the front wall for the slant? Looks good!
5 Inches.
Great work. Just what I was looking for... I will build it this spring....just one change, I will be putting the door on the short wall. thanks
Glad it helped.
I was also planing on putting the door on the side but after you start putting stuff in it, it gets difficult to reach the stuff all the way in the back, if you build it wider like 6’x 8’ you will have enough space to go around.
@@NumberDZ Good point, makes sense
the problem living North Idaho is our ground prep. Our extreme weather, I have about 10x your ground prep with way more material-rock for drainage. In short, just jealous is all.
That sounds like a lot of work, thanks for watching.
The video editing is great on this. Love how you did the audio
Glad you enjoyed it!, I'm working on a retaining wall and it will have the same video style as this, you should check it out.
Que medidas son las maderas en cm? Saludos desde Argentina.
Si te refieres a la madera delgada es de 121.92 ancho por 243.84 de largo
COOL VIDEO THANKS ALOT IM GOING TO BUILD ONE THE SAME THING
YOUR AWESOME 👍
No problem 👍 subscribe if you haven’t already
with inflation i think i added the right items to the cart on home depot it comes out to 430.00 before taxes so could be more, this is from 1/12/25 in central California i added location because price vary from locations. i will be building this exact same shed i thank you for the video. if there was something you couldve change from this build after its been standing i hope, is there something you could've change or added thanks
Thanks for the update on the current pricing!
If I could change one thing, it would be the size I wish I had built it bigger. A 4x8 feels a bit small once you start putting stuff inside.
@NumberDZ thank you for replying and what size would've you build.
when you measure diagonal os that to check if its frame? and measurements you looking for
That's to check if the frame is square, both sides have to give you the exact same measurement, if they are different that means it's not square.
well done going to build one very similar
Thanks, this is a fun easy project.
Can you put wheels under it ? To move easy if i want to paint
No, it’s very heavy
@@NumberDZ if they could put wheels on houses. I could put wheels on a shed
ill take two!
excellent video. Very informative. I need an outdoor shed so I plan to pretty much replicate what you have here. I do, however, have a few concerns. I'm in FL so we get a ton of rain daily from June to Sept. It is also almost 95 degrees for 4 months. The location I have selected will get little direct sun light but fully exposure to the rain.
How will the OSB holdup in the long run? Will painting prevent rot? How about a rubberized coating? Something like LIQUID RUBBER?
What is the roof system. Link to that please.
Shed is great, simple and low cost.
It is linked in the video description.
Genuine question, are you worried about the boards becoming damp ?
I built it in 2022 and it’s still looks good, no problems so far.
Hi, I really enjoyed your video! I’m going to try to make this shed. What is the width of the OSB plywood? Thank you so much.
Hi , is there any option for door adjustment? I built 5×3 Domi shed exactly by assembly manual but I can close the door without heavy force. A top of the doors are touching each other plus right door looks lower than left. Any advice? Thank you in advance for help!!
Super helpful video, thank you 🙏
You’re welcome
Looks good but how is it holding up with all the rain recently. Kinda worried your shed is getting flooded since it wasn’t raised much and was any Tsing going thru your window or shed since their was no pitch to the roof
No problems so far, everything looks good. The floor is about 6 inches above the ground level so no flooding problems.
The roof has a good pitch the water drains towards the front, you can’t really see the pitch in the video but you see it right away in person.
@@NumberDZ good to hear I know alot of california is getting flooded and I just couldn’t see the pitch of the roof . This is a good video I might try and build one
Awesome video 👍🏻
I'm glad you liked it!
This is one of the most helpful videos I’ve found!
I'm so glad! Thanks for watching.
Wow, looks so nice for less than $400 shed. What kind of material for the roof, metal?
Thanks, it's plastic.
How long would this grade of plywood even last with rain?
Do you have a link for the roofing you used ???
thats what im looking for, have you found what he used yet?
Did he cut a slope in the osb?
If you are referring to the side walls. Yes I did.
Excelent job and excelent video! Respect! 🤜🤛
Thanks for watching
Love it. Terrific job!
Thank you!
Wish you would have kept it 2-3 inches lower than the window frame but simple and does the job
Not really need it, I can’t see it from the inside, I did some tests before building it.
That’s a framing nailer or the finishing one?
Framing nailer.
Very nice work!
Thanks a lot!
Dumb questions but why are some of the 2x4 doubled up on the walls?
Some are double to accept nails from the side. Could do it with a 4x4 in the corners, but they’re more than twice as expensive as two 2x4’s.
I wander when it rains if the water drains back toward the house since it’s flat ?
The back wall is 5 inches higher compared to the front wall, if you watch the entire video you will see it, so the water drains towards the front of the shed.
Very Clean bato! Nice job!
Thanks.
Que rápido trabaja usted muy bonito
Gracias
Nice build and well done video. One suggestion I might offer is to place a sheet of plastic on top of the final layer of dirt @ 2:10 so the floor won't rot. Thanks for a great DIY video!
That's a great idea!, thanks for watching.
Is it too late after it already done?
@@redjeepyellowjeep-qz2on If you read my post it says to install it at 2:10 which is DURING the construction phase, not after the build is done. So of course it would be too late after it's done.
I hired a company to make me a big shed(electric,a/c,etc)..I asked about something like that and they told me that water will always go under the shed and water need to drain so they compacted I think about 12 inches of pea rock/I saw vids of guys placing tubes to better drain water if it gets under shed /I was advised not to do concrete pad )
Of course I'm no expert about that but I had to pass different inspections from the city and it seemed correct info
Isn’t it going to rott when water splashes at the bottom edge
It will at some point, but if you do preventative maintenance it will last for many years.
