12:53 the animated film of Aladdin take place in the 1400s( after 1420, because the forbidden city was built after that date)but the nose of the sphinx was smashed in 1378, so Aladdin and Jasmine wouldn't have been there to see the Sphinx losing
its nose.
Sorry if contradict you, but in my opinion Aladdin take place in Jordan, because the merchant at the beginning of the movie tells that Agrabah is located near the Jordan River. But i read that in the movie there is a mixture of different monuments. There is a city in Jordan called Aqaba and the name sounds similar to Agrabah but this city Is located on the Sea so it's not the best choice ever. It Is a bit of a headache!!!!!

I think that the Agrabah of the live action resembles a lot Istanbul the capital of Turkey, so i guess the live action probably takes place somewhere on the coast of the black sea near turkey
I just found out that As-Salaam Palace in Baghdad, Iraq looks almost identical to the Sultan’s palace in Aladdin. So could the city of Jadryah be the real city of Agrabah from Aladdin?

Very interesting analysis! I enjoyed seeing all of your research and conclusions. Iago makes a reference to guns at one point when he panics and wants to flee. I also wonder why many male characters have modern boxers, lol. Could be a throwaway joke and nothing more, but when it happened repeatedly, I must wonder.

Yes! The merchant says he has "the finest merchandise this side of the river Jordan!"
Next Sleeping beauty
I have some evidence that has led me to believe that the animated film is set in the Wadi Rum Desert in Jordan sometime after 1516.
Evidence #1:The desert surrounding Agrabah resembles the Wadi Rum Desert more than any area I know of.
Evidence #2:The clothing on Aladdin, Jafar, the Sultan and several background characters loosely resemble clothing worn in the Ottoman Empire.
Evidence #3:The Ottomans conquered Jordan (where the Wadi Rum Desert is) in 1516.
I like it! Isn't that where they filmed the desert scenes in the live action version?

Also not so long ago on the Film Theory channel MatPat did a video about the Magic Carpet ride in Aladdin and he said that he thought Aladdin took place in Baghdad,Iraq.While I don’t agree with him his evidence is pretty good.

Original Aladdin story is from China, it was adapted into Arabian Nights because the author thought the story would work well.
How about both of them could be in modern day Afghanistan, near the south east coast of the Caspian sea.
