A couple reason from what I heard over the years of why the 23 not featured on the heel. The original 9 was designed with the 23 on the back because it was prior to his retirement. The brand didn’t know he would retired when the shoes were sent to be made. Shoes are prepped and such 18 months out from release. Once rumblings were heard he was going to retire the shoe was to be worn by many other players and college teams. The PE versions for some players had their numbers while college teams didn’t have anything. It was a clean slate look they wanted to go for as the shoe was not being worn by him anymore
So that s why ! Clever very clever from Jordan Brand !

The 23 was on the back of the black/white pair back in '94. I got my powder blue at the Waterford JD Sports. Got $20 off using status cash. Went TTS. Why? Because Nike finally got them right. They're a tad wider inside the shoe, way more comfortable compared to past 9s, and no pinky toe rubbing that killed. That's the main reason I gave up on 9s in the past.
I heard that about the pinky toe rubbing in 9s from WearTesters so I went up to a 12.5 instead of a 12 directly from Nike. Hopefully they won't be too big.

I got em through SNKRS app. Hoping I can wear them true to size because I’ve heard some have to go up a half size. I think 210 is too much but I’ve never had a pair so I’m like what the heck. I know I’m limited my shoe purchases because of the insane prices. Nike hurting themselves by being so greedy. Consumers are realizing that most of these shoes are wants not needs.

There’s a reason no one is buying the 9’s - they weren’t that sweet in 93 and they aren’t that sweet now. Just because it’s a Jordan retro (even in a UNC color-way) doesn’t mean it’s a good shoe. They aren’t that comfortable either - pass for me!
