      @Maveth The Reaper I've been a fan of Star Trek from the late 80's, and have seen every single episode and film more times than I'd like to admit. Discovery's first season has been the best of any Star Trek series ever, period. That's still not saying a lot, but it's more than solid, and anyone claiming it isn't is likely doing so for nefarious reasons.

    Don't listen to the weirdly negative people here. Star Trek Discovery is good sci-fi.
    Watch it if you love sci-fi. Don't watch it if you are a classic Star Trek fan that can't handle the change in the old format. If you want that specific thing, go back and watch those shows. Don't expect a new show to be exactly the same as the older shows. Things change, especially over the span of so many decades.
    I also think it's funny how people are saying Star Trek has been ruined by SJWs. While Star Trek has ALWAYS been a franchise with social justice themes in it, like having the first interracial kiss on television, ever.

    • @gateauxq4604
      @gateauxq4604 3 роки тому +3

      Fun fact-Hardcore Trekkies hated TNG. They hated DS9. They hated Voyager. They hated Enterprise. They hated the Abrams films. There’s always gonna be some people mad about a new Trek, Disco just drags out the racist chauvinists because oh noes it’s a black woman in the lead, the sum of all their fears.
      Also funny-people hated Picard because he was ‘old,’ bald, and/or French. Some people still think nothing beats TOS which is hilarious because looking back now it’s a huge cheesefest. I love it and grew up on it but it’s cheesy AF.

    • @Kiluei
      @Kiluei 3 роки тому

      @@gateauxq4604 It's pretty weird. It's like if they did a new X-Men comicbook and there was a new Uyghur X-Men character that fled China and escaped a concentration camp. I'm sure the same type of people would hate on it. While it would be super ironic of them to hate on it. Because X-Men always talked about that exact same issue: people being prosecuted for merely who they are.
      They prove that they just never understood what that story was really about and what the themes of that story tried to say.

    Sonequa Martin-Green is a joy to watch. I really disliked her in 'The Walking Dead' but that was more to do with the crap direction the writing and production took. All my issues with her Walking Dead character were dissolved upon watching her in ST Discovery. Discovery is very enjoyable and has the best first season of any Trek series other than the original.
    I eagerly await season 2!
    I hated on the J.J. verse movies. They weren't my Trek. But I came around to appreciate them eventually.
    I loathed Enterprise, but one winter I made it to some very interesting storyline and came to appreciate it. The final seasons were great.
    I loathed Voyager, and DS9 was dark with no Trekking!
    TNG had the worst first season ever
    Even TOS is full of canon inconsistencies and poor episodes.
    It isn't worth hating on something. Take the good, leave the bad. Be happy and enjoy Discovery.

      Say what you will, Voyager got me into Trek. Then, I made the mistake of following it up by the first season of TNG ("Pain! Such pain!! Pain!!!", as Troi put it in her less articulate years). DS9 drew me back in, and later TNG episodes reconciled me with that branch of the franchise.
      But to each their own. And agree 100% on the it not being worth it to hate on stuff. Looking forward to season two of DSC.

    DSC is easily the second best Star Trek series behind only DS9. I'm glad they manged to breathe life back into the television franchise after the disaster that was Enterprise killed it for more than a decade.

    • @blupunk01
      @blupunk01 6 років тому

      @MonkeyZorr Aw yes, ENT was a good show the way Nemesis was a good movie. At least in the case of Nemesis it only managed to keep Trek off the big screen for seven years, whereas Enterprise managed to take a solid 18 years of Star Trek on the small screen and magically transform it into a 12 year absence. If that's not success, I don't know what is!

    • @blupunk01
      @blupunk01 6 років тому +1

      @MonkeyZorr Hahahaha! Keep selling yourself that about the shittiest Star Trek series to date. If there were money to be made another series would have been made, but Enterprise ratings started out on a high note because of goodwill among the fandom and quickly squandered it getting worse season after season, as you can see in this chart:
      commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Star_Trek_Enterprise_ratings_chart.png
      See that little red x? That was the premier, and everything after that is a descent into complete irrelevancy. I'm so happy to have serious, well-made series to finally breathe life back into the TV franchise. And you can hold your breath and pout all you want, but this is canon prime timeline Star Trek television and will remain so. I really, really love the negative energy of the Discovery haters. I remember how from the first episode it was all "This is going off in one season," and then it was renewed I could almost swear I heard all of your impotent cries into the night. I used to think there was no bigger group of whiny pissbabies than the Star Wars fandom, but sadly a segment of the Star Trek fans are just as bad. Ah well, you lot have your little fits, and I'll keep enjoying quality television for seasons to come.

    I like *Spock's* beard. It fits the rebellious nature of, _"I am not my Father."_ perfectly.
    I expect to enjoy the second season of *_'STAR TREK: Discovery'_* as I did the first. Amazing how many *_'STAR TREK'_* fans have begun acting like *_'STAR WARS'_* fans in the past decade or so... Experts on nothing, never satisfied with anything.

      Besides, there was one bearded Spock already in TOS ("Mirror, Mirror", anyone?). Spock with beard equals a Spock out of sorts, so it would be interesting to see how that plays out.
      Looking around how systematically some people hate on the series, I can only assume they've set a Google Alert for every new post on ST:DSC so they can immediately hate on it the second it pops up. What can possibly be worth this much effort? Just so you can nerdrage anonymously?

      @@duicic8541 -- I know it's forgettable, because I forgot about it, but remember, *Spock's* older Brother *Sybok,* from *_'STAR TREK: The Last Frontier' (1999)_* also wore a beard, much like this one. It could be that a young adult *Spock* was more heavily influenced by his Big Brother *Sybok* than *Sarek* would have liked. And made similar, quite logical from a certain point of view, decisions. We already know that one, two, three of *Sarek's* children rejected his planned paths for them. Basically, *Sarek* tried so hard to be *VULCAN* he became a shit Father. And he denied himself his only *VULCAN VICTORY* by denying his Daughter's success in order to have a second chance with *Spock,* since his first, fully *VULCAN,* Son had gone _'astray'._ It's all about Family, Man. Luckily, upon realizing the mistakes he had made as a Father over the years, *Sarek* eventually turned out OK.

      @@duicic8541 -- Thanks. I have really enjoyed seeing Sarek's evolution, apparently going back to ENTERPRISE and even STAR TREK: FIRST CONTACT. I especially like that with perspective, it becomes clear that Vulcan logic is not absolute. Up to and including his attempted assassination by Vulcan Fundamentalists in STAR TREK: Discovery and his mind meld with Jean Luc Picard. It all fits. Yet too many _'fans'_ act like it doesn't and claim that time travel is a cop-out. I'm like, are these guys watching the same series?
