Haven't watched it but I hear Star Trek: Discovery (some acronym, STD), is kind of ordinary. Seems ticking diversity boxes is more important than good stories. I also heard that The Orville is a far better show.

Don't listen to the weirdly negative people here. Star Trek Discovery is good sci-fi.
Watch it if you love sci-fi. Don't watch it if you are a classic Star Trek fan that can't handle the change in the old format. If you want that specific thing, go back and watch those shows. Don't expect a new show to be exactly the same as the older shows. Things change, especially over the span of so many decades.
I also think it's funny how people are saying Star Trek has been ruined by SJWs. While Star Trek has ALWAYS been a franchise with social justice themes in it, like having the first interracial kiss on television, ever.
Fun fact-Hardcore Trekkies hated TNG. They hated DS9. They hated Voyager. They hated Enterprise. They hated the Abrams films. There’s always gonna be some people mad about a new Trek, Disco just drags out the racist chauvinists because oh noes it’s a black woman in the lead, the sum of all their fears.
Also funny-people hated Picard because he was ‘old,’ bald, and/or French. Some people still think nothing beats TOS which is hilarious because looking back now it’s a huge cheesefest. I love it and grew up on it but it’s cheesy AF.
@@gateauxq4604 It's pretty weird. It's like if they did a new X-Men comicbook and there was a new Uyghur X-Men character that fled China and escaped a concentration camp. I'm sure the same type of people would hate on it. While it would be super ironic of them to hate on it. Because X-Men always talked about that exact same issue: people being prosecuted for merely who they are.
They prove that they just never understood what that story was really about and what the themes of that story tried to say.

@Black Rod when she is in more light hearted and comedic stuff she shines. Her minor role in New Girl had me laughing a bunch. Then somehow CBS thought 'we should cast her as a human raised by Vulcans'. Hopefully Michael becomes more humane and empathetic in season 2 and beyond.

@Maveth The Reaper I've been a fan of Star Trek from the late 80's, and have seen every single episode and film more times than I'd like to admit. Discovery's first season has been the best of any Star Trek series ever, period. That's still not saying a lot, but it's more than solid, and anyone claiming it isn't is likely doing so for nefarious reasons.

She's gorgeous, intelligent, polite, and absolutely charming. Unlike many other well - known celebrities, she stays humble and is well - balanced; keeping her priorities in order. Sonequa graduated with her Bachelor's Degree in Theatre from the University of Alabama and she is happily married with two children.
She's so impressive. Love her in Star Trek.

As mixed as I am on Discovery's fast-and-lose treatment of Trek canon, there's no denying that Sonequa Martin-Green makes the show watchable though her sheer talent. To me it makes no real difference that she's a woman or black. Trek has always been woke. I only care that she's an incredible actress.

Lol. Notice how there is no applause at all (and just a little laughter) when Ethan Peck is introduced as Spock to the audience. Colbert leaves the space there for the applause and... nothing.
I love sci fi but could never really get into Star Trek. However, I've spent the last week binging season 1 whatever is on Netflix. It's so good! I think the acting is well all round and it's so nice to see some good sci fi.

You say you're a Star trek fan then say Spock doesn't have emotions, Vulcans have extremely strong emotions that's why they are trained as children to control them, and Spock is a half Human half Vulcan, he has shown his emotional side many times.

I know humans are but I'd imagine Vulcans would only grow a beard if it was a practical necessity or something, not just because they felt like it or thought it looked good.
