Great video mate! Always been the chance of a good head in up that valley, seen a few half decent ones up there but nothing that monstrous! What a horse mate!
Ya should be able to whack that up into some good knife handles Simon lol ........... nah just kidding, awesome stuff Simon, and a big congrats mate, you worked hard for it and well deserved Bring on the next vid Looks like 3 more relatively newbies might also be hooked now too
Always aiming to share experiences with new and keen people. A shame the lads weren’t all able to get behind the rifle. But I’m sure they’ll be more pumped when they do.
@@chasingpeaks yeah you elivered on the "teaser" . . . nah, those hills are easy enough, and the more I do down at the bottom of the south the smaller the top of the south looks!!
It’s an awesome area! It was the home of my first back country hunt, great place to take a few rookies to warm them into the hunting game! Luck was on our side that day!!!
Very good and valid concern. It was after much deliberation that we made the decision not to. It is a great animal and one unlikely to better, from that region. However, once we do find the ‘right’ Red Stag for a shoulder mount he will, well and truly, be a great specimen. Also, it keeps that challenge and drive alive.
Still a good chance that its not decended from introduced genes looking at its style. A massive 18 was shot in the next valley over in the early 70's from a helicopter. That long deceased pilot operated in the Rakaia country mostly yet the one from that country was the best they shot out of the helicopter. Bit of history for you..
That’s awesome JG. Would there be any photos of it? Would be awesome to see. Might be a far fetched request as I suppose there wasn’t anything like Facebook or instagram to share photos in the 70’s ha. Cheers mate
Nice country. But shame about all the radiata, this is very much how most of our foot hill country is going to look in the next two generations. As hunters we should be vocal about the damage to this country it causes.
Great film - well shot and edited and that deer was a absolute stomper
Wow awesome stuff guys that sent shivers up my spine when the stag hit the deck! Great VO skills too. Well done.
Cheers mate! Thanks for watching!!

Great hunt and awesome head! Definitely a shoulder mount respect for the hard hunt and quality stag, pity you didn’t cape him out hey
Certainly a decision made after plenty of pondering!

Great video mate! Always been the chance of a good head in up that valley, seen a few half decent ones up there but nothing that monstrous! What a horse mate!

Good stag guys Simon put the effort in good to see thanx guys
Cheers Robert, thanks for watching.
An area which consistently produces poor heads can occasionally produce an amazing head, as your experience has shown. Well done.
Cheers Gregory! Eventually hard yards pay off eh!! Thanks for watching.
Awesome video lads keep on with the content

And there ya go..... Great stag.... And, As usual, good spotting in the first instance Si (and great to see you sweating some gravy!!)
Was it enough teasing for ya, Greig? Those hills are only getting bigger and bigger.
@@chasingpeaks yeah you elivered on the "teaser" . . . nah, those hills are easy enough, and the more I do down at the bottom of the south the smaller the top of the south looks!!
@@greigcaigou5991 positive outlook!
Even Fiordland alpine scrub compares closely to the Leatham wilding pines…
Excellent storytelling bro enjoyed that 👌
Dream stag right there! Top stuff 👍
holy moly! next level stag man.
Great watch fellas. Cheers! Fantastic animal.
Cheers mate! Never know what will decide to stroll out of the bush! Thanks for watching.
Mint stag! Good yarns as well.
Cheers mate! Usually quantity not quality with our sharns 😂
awesome guys!! I've been up there a few times but never managed to see let alone shoot a beast like that!!! Good stuff
It’s an awesome area! It was the home of my first back country hunt, great place to take a few rookies to warm them into the hunting game! Luck was on our side that day!!!
Awesome! Editing and narration on point!
Cheers Jim, Kezza does well eh!
That's a f..king nice Red Stag bro well done 🕊
Cheers Grant! Hell of a head to pull out of that area! Thanks for watching.
Awesome video brothers :)
Great vid mate.
I just don't understand why you didn't cape such a fantastic, hard earnt trophy.
Very good and valid concern.

Very good effort, great result
Cool video guys. What cal rifles are you using?
The Browning that shot the stag is a .280.
The Tikka is chambered in .308.
🤙
Awesome hunt boys, the hard yards paid off. Nothing like that feeling. What rifle and caliber did you use on the deer?
Certainly feels good to get one on the deck.
It’s a Xbolt White Gold chambered in .280REM
New sub! Liked 🐸😛👍
Top head for that area, few genes coming though from the east of there maybe. Man those pines are getting bad.
Most likely some Introduced genes.
Yea man, those valleys are beyond help. Just need to keep them contained eh.

No sorry no photo. I've always wanted to see what it was like as well. The pilots old shooter told me about it.
What hut is it you stayed in?
Jeepers lads that's a bloody good animal for that area !!!
Not bad eh… Dimond in the rough 😂

Couldn’t agree more! Definitely do our fair share of talking about it.
Plus, always pull out a few hundred as you go (Not that it helps much).
wicked fellas keep it up
Cheers bro!
Nice lads. What area?
Spot X 🤪
Wild guess. Somewhere around the key Te Anau
