- After the storm had passed we had a stint of sunshine. What better time than to venture up into the Leatham River 4wd track outside Blenheim. It was going good until it didn't. Fuel issues and then damage that could prevent our trip home, the Leatham hit us harder than we thought.

Those Leatham crossings are quite deep even at low-flow times. We blew the frost plugs out of a towing car we parked at the road end one time too, super cold permanent shade in many spots up there…😂
I can imagine through winter the shaded parts of the valley are almost permanently frozen in areas. Be a rough find to return too!
Been watching for awhile now, Just love this show. Cant wait to get my surf in a spot where i can do this.
Doesn't take much! the ol' Dmax was bone stock and did everything the lifted and locked trucks did.

did that track a few years back in my old Isuzu big horn totally stock, no snorkel and road tyres,
Can definitely find it to be an easy run with the right conditions, same with any river based track. Cool spot to explore none-the-less!
Have you *really* been wheeling if the Land Rover in the group doesn't break something? Another great vid mate. I'd be keen to tag along on one of these some day.

@@lostsheepadventures still half way through my current build. I wouldn't want to burden a trip with a half finished (unreliable) truck. Once it's done I'll hit you up for sure (KZN130).
In the end it was a blown CV, drove it to Christchurch where we put in a 2nd hand CV and continued driving it home.
@@JustDiscoThings that's what I thought it was soon as I heard it. I have a cheap set of free wheeling hubs on mine in the hopes that they will go before the CVs and save them. I carry the original solid hubs with me so if I blow a hub it's an easy trail fix.
The Leatham river road is permanently closed now!??
Not that I am aware of. There is a lot of work going on down that way where you leave the Leatham road and follow the branch river due to a suspension bridge being heavily damaged in flooding. They were in the process of removing it while we were in there.
@4X4MonthlyNZ ok thanks. Was shown a map yesterday that had the road marked "permanently closed" which I thought was odd.
DOC site indicates open.

Leatham is not affected. 👍
But be cautious due to dry fire risk in the region
