Alas, we have empowered too many people into arrogance, delusion, and stupidity. Too many people believe they have privileges and rights in this country that they don't. This includes someone believing they should be excused from criminal penalties because they couldn't contact a lawyer in the middle of the night, and during a traffic stop.
Amazing how many people have high powered defense attorneys on retainer and on call 24/7. Incredible.
It's really scary on how many young girls are driving drunk these days and most of the time playing the victim and being so disrespectful.

Asking for a lawyer is NOT evasive. She did the exact right thing, refuse to talk with police without a lawyer. If cop suspects DUI, then just arrest her and process her.
I actually agree with this. As obnoxious as she was and as dangerous as drunk drivers are, they do kill people after all, I would do the same thing. If I'm going to go to jail anyway and probably get probation or some kind of pretrial diversion anyway then why cooperate? The only added consequence to all these refusals is that her license will be suspended for a year. Besides I don't drink and I think I would fail those field sobriety test stone cold sober so..

She does not have a right to an attorney at that point. She is not being interrogated. The cop asking if she is willing to submit to a field test is not the same as interrogation.

I've watched a lot of these and quite often they want to call their lawyer. Do so many US citizens really have a personal lawyer?
Everything in America is for sale. For a few dollars a month you can have a lawyer on call, or a politician in your pocket or even citizenship.
