Do you have residual symptoms? I got mine about 10 months ago. My feet are always a bit tingly, have occasional pins and needles, discomfort. but nothing at all like pre- surgery. man it was so painful and my weakness was real. i also have harder time controlling my balance than before and also spasm pains and stiffness i cane to terms i have to live with this. i got imaging and nothing is wrong. i have no issues working out light load. slowly moving up also my doc told me not to run or do impact sports if possible. thissucks for me lol
@@amitsheoran2788 Yeah the similar pain you had will be there. Be patient and do not do anything your doc says don’t do like twisting, hyperflexion, jumping, running etc. For me it was almost 6-8 weeks. After that, I had to get careful rehab for about 2 months. Its been about 10 months and my pain sometimes return a bit but nowhere near before surgery. I got really impatient right after surgery, but be patient and be diligent with rehab. Make sure your doc prescribes a great PT for you for rehab and PT. PT for months to come is crucial!

That is what I was going to say too. Definitely do not cut your nerve. They cut a piece of the bone to create more room for the nerve to expand and not get crushed.

Thanks man. I had the same exact surgery on the same disc. I’m at 16 weeks post surgery and am still having a little nerve pain so I’m happy to hear that you were still healing at 10 months that makes me feel better.
I put my surgery off for 10 years due to other health reasons. The first surgeon I saw wanted to do a more severe surgery and my 2nd surgeon laughed and said no. This surgery was one of the best decisions I made being less evasive. When I woke up after surgery I could tell it worked. A few hours later the same day I literally walked out of the hospital and went home to recover. My pain is gone and I'm only 3 weeks out.

Thank you for the video!! I just had an l5-s1 microdiscectomy and it was just a crazy experience. I’m 6-7 weeks post op, sometimes I end up frustrated because I do have flare ups and it gets me worried that the surgery didn’t work. But the pain is definitely not comparable to how horrible it was before my surgery 🥹 I only waited one month to get the surgery and I definitely recommend getting the surgery as soon as you possibly can because the pinched nerve is affected by how long it is actually pinched! Thanks
OMG, thank you so much for doing these videos. I've been in pain for years and get too much information about what to do and not do and most of it is conflicting so I have no idea what to do. Now I feel like I can move forward (not literally) with microdiscectomy. This may be the solution I've been looking for.
Thank you for making and sharing this video mate. Its very helpful and clears some of the noises away that I had in my head. I have been having L4/L5 related pain since 5 yrs now and not able to walk , stand much. It took a while to get detected as the disck bulging problem, earlier diagnoses were just like weak glutes, piriformis ,etc. I hope the surgery shall put an end to this misery for me. Again thanks a lot and wish you more strength and happiness.

@@mynarcissistjourney I dont know how severe your condition is. But this is generally a minor surgery. For me it was a combo of Laminectomy and Discactomy . If you have exhausted non surgical options and your condition is not improving, your condition is degrading your quality of life plus your surgeon recommends this surgery...then it is a compelling option. So far things are looking good post my op. I will post some videos today about my recovery to help other people like yourself to get an idea of recovery post op

Im having mine next month. This helped alot, I was freaking out since Im terrified of not being able to lift again. While not being able to stand/walk for +10 min. I cant wait to have my life back.
I had a back surgery at 23… wound up that the surgeon couldn’t get the disc herniation, it was too massive, so he left it in my central canal and did a 2 level laminectomy, I had no sciatica for 6 weeks, then it came back with a new back and hip pain, and hard to walk.. I’m almost 26 now, haven’t worked, haven’t worked out. Haven’t done much, they’re offering me another surgery now.. the truth is, everyone is different, someone with a wider spinal column will have much better results from a discectomy, where as someone with congenital stenosis will likely have life altering effects from having just 1 disc injury.. I have 3, had no idea I had stenosis, it’s severe and surgery couldn’t fix it, the disc herniations are relatively small but for me they are massive and completely shut my spinal column crushing the nerves.. it’s hurt every second for 2 years now, oxycodone and morphine are starting to work less and less so idk what to do lol
I had my L4-5 Discectomy 2 weeks ago. Since then I have debilitating pain in my right leg which is so bad it makes me cry. I am in the process of weaning off the miniscule dose of opioids that I’d been taking and the pain is unbearable. I know something weird is going on and I’m seeing my Doc today for post op check. We’ll see.
Needs to be clarified that a microdiscectomy does NOT involve cutting off a piece of the nerve. It cutting off part of the disc which is pressing the nerve. If they cut the sciatic nerve you would not be able to walk.
I’m about 36 hours post op… the relief….. I can’t explain I just want to cry I’m so happy to not be in so much pain. Thankful for modern science and the ability to afford insurance even when it’s a giant scam.
Hi Katie, the morning of the op I couldn’t take my usual painkillers so had to wait 2-3 hours in the hospital room awaiting the call to go down. The pain was other worldly, I paced around the room for almost two hours. Upon coming around from surgery I felt almost instant relief. I slept fine that in the hospital room and walked out the next day. Obviously a bit stiff in the scar area and a little bruised but no sciatica (thank goodness). It’s been 18 months and the best decision I made. Hope it goes well for you!
How you feeling now? 2 weeks post op and in a much better place than before. I was able to walk straight away and did 10,000 steps easily 2 days later. Started experiencing some nerve pain after around 7 days once the meds wore off and was told this is the nerve healing. Was given some meds to continue which has helped straight away and told to start physio. 2 sessions per week. Overall feel good, strong but just hoping for the nerve to heal as I don't want to stay on the meds.
@@boxmanic hey man, I am now 6-7 weeks out. I feel that my back is stronger than before. No back pain at all just mild discomfort here and there but nothing major. The nerve pain is way better than before surgery but around 5 weeks it started to get worse all of sudden. I had another MRI, no re herniation and it was just irritation. They told me it is very common for the nerves to get irritated post surgery. The nerve pain started to get better again. I also hope that the nerve pain gets better but I was told it takes weeks to months (depends how much it was affected)
@maheration great to hear, I know a friend who had a fusion in the neck and the nerve took over a year to heal. So I think the nerve healing will take time. Blood circulation is supposed to help improve the nerve regeneration process. I am a great fan of cupping and aim to start that to improve the blood flow but will wait around 2 months of recovery before starting that.
I just got the surgery for l5/s1 yesterday and I am walking and everything just fine... best advice is to do tons of core exercises before surgery and after and learn to use your core! Definitely get the surgery it is so worth it!

Hey bro, younger here too. I had an injury which herniated my L4/L5 disc. I went through 5 weeks of painful physical therapy before an MRI that found pieces of the disk cracked off and were lodged against the nerve. I did the pain block injections, no results. They just went in and took the pieces out. HORRIBLE pain before...I couldn't imagine two years of it. I could barely walk. Horrible pain after!! Its been 3 months post op now. honestly i had lingering pain upwards of 8 months post op - about the 6 month was really when i started to see some positive results - wish you a good recovery!
Mate I’m in the same boat.. I had my op feb this year after 9 months of pain.. still get pain in my hamstring and buttcheek but I’d have to say it’s slowly getting better.. it is frustrating when you’re an active person and there’s huge gaps between recovery stages..and as for still getting some nerve pain.. my father in law had both legs amputated and used to complain of pain in his feet.. so the nerves have kind of a memory. Good luck with your recovery ✌️
As of today 11/25/21, I'm about a week pre-op and can't wait! I've been on permanent bed rest for almost 4 months now and life has been pretty difficult to say the least. Just found out I have L5-S1 herniated disc 9mm and with nerve compression. I’ve lost some nerve reflex function in my calf muscle. Never had any back pain but I had sciatic pain for 2 years. Whole time I thought it was piriformis syndrome. Was doing these goofy exercises, ice, heat, rest and nothing was working. So now I’m about to get a microdisectomy to fix it. In hindsight I should have pushed for an MRI like a year ago.
@@hosnarastegary6645 A day before my pre op appointment, the nerve function came back in my lower leg. Still had some weakness so I decided to proceed with the surgery date. About a week later before my actual surgery date, I was feeling pretty good. Still had some numbness and weakness but it was slowly going away. I ended up canceling my surgery (end of August 2023) and as of today I feel great. Dr recommended me that I should have a full recovery by Jan 2024 and he was right. You have to make adjustments to heal naturally. No bending, lifting, making sure you have proper posture, do some gentle spinal decompression, and do some intermittent fasting. I fasted for 2 days in a row and I strongly believe this worked.
Dave, My name is Percy and I’m going same situation you mentioned now. I’ve had disc pain for about a year (S5/L1 - Disc Herniation). I’ve done physical therapy for 4 months, chiropractic therapy for 6 months, and I’ve had a spinal epidural. Now we are discussing surgery. My only draw back is, what if the surgery doesn’t work and I’m still in pain. Prior to the surgery, I ran all the time and lived an active lifestyle, now I cannot do any of that, other than biking. Thank God for Peloton and biking. Should I move forward with the surgery?
I have herniated disc L5/S1, started to have a tingling sensation in my right leg last June i thought this is normal for someone who is at her 40’s, then last July 25 out of nowhere i could not walk nor stand because the pain in my back and shooting pain from buttocks down my feet is excruciating. I was literally crawling at that time, The pain is just unbelievable, post MRI i decided to have an operation, my discectomy happened last week, post operation the pain has subsided but there is still residual pain left in my right leg which I am trying to work on with a physical therapist. Hoping to get back to my normal state in a few months. Just one question, its been 7 days post my surgery, the mild residual pain i am still feeling (2 to 3 out of 10) will this go away? Please help me as I am paranoid right now.
3 years of pain, same as me. I’m pretty sure it was from squatting and I just tried to tough it out and push through the pain. Tried all conservative means (focusing on form, dropping weight, mobility work, core exercises, physical therapy, chiropractor) and nothing helped. This past year it got bad really quick, started getting sciatica nerve pain, foot drop and finally got an mri. It was a herniated disc L4-L5 and I got surgery next week. Still on my first week recovering, hoping all goes well.
@@mayajackson3761 So far, pain is nowhere near where it was before. I still have foot drop, and it’s either permanent damage or recovering very slowly but I can’t tell to be honest. The only time I’m really in pain is when I try to stretch my right hamstring, the side the herniated disc was on. Again nowhere near as bad but because I can’t stretch it as much it makes certain lower body exercises more difficult (my right hamstring cramps more often because I can’t stretch it as much). Also certain exercises that involve my lower back rounding like sit ups, or leg tuck and twist hurt my back for a day or two.

Had discectomy 5 days ago. Back pain as expected. Had horrific sciatic pain in left leg for 3 months. Tried everything you named. Feeling very discouraged as leg pain is at least 70% back. Chronically.
Im now one week after L5-S1 microdiscectomy. Before op I could not walk or stand more than a few minutes. After op I could walk and stand again as long as I wanted.
I’ve been having the discomfort for twenty years and same been doing all the conservative treatments but my lifestyle is affected. I would just go out and do sports whenever I feel good about myself but after a few days my nerve pain will hit me. I’ll be having the surgery in 5 days time. My medications for pain really made me like a robot i feel no pain but anxiety and suicidal thoughts would linger due to meds especially the opioids I’m taking. I had to cut down on them and take it before sleep but sometimes gives me nightmares or insomnia. Anxiety is always there like I couldn’t drive anymore. It’s a bit concerning especially the suicidal thoughts someone who doesn’t have any medical backgroundor good understanding of the meds will most likely attempt suicide. Mainly support is very important and being hopeful to do usual athletic things pain free is my motivation especially family and the Lord. I’ll follow you through and hopefully be in the same course of recovery in few weeks time. Do you go to the pool often or sauna? Bike? Or hike?

Same here got rear ended October 2020 just about to get surgery. May 6th is my appointment to schedule and discuss surgery I’m sick of living with this pain.
I had a L5/S1 disc bulge which was pressing the nerve. 9 months of mild to severe. After physio, pain relief and the option of cortisone injection I went for surgery option and a microdisectomy. After just 24 hours I was pain free, it was liberating. I had some mild nerve pain at week 4 but this was down to the nerve still being irritated and calming after surgery. Week 6 and I’m back to photo and looking forward to getting active again. Especially gym/golf. I can wholeheartedly say that the surgery was the best choice I could’ve made.
@@k27s94 tbh I’m doing really well. Still get mild sciatic pain in my leg but it’s nothing really. Back playing golf and doing Pilates, I’ll move to gym in the spring as I’ve been told to be patient and give it 6 months before I start loading again. Couldn’t recommend the procedure enough.
I am still having pain on my lower back after 18 days of Post surgery. I am still having pain on my hips, and legs and lower back. How was yours? How long it took you to feel alive?
Thanks so much for making this video. I’m post op 3 months but still have hard time sitting or especially driving for more than 15-20 min before I start having lower back pain. How long did it take you to be able sit longer with no back pain?
Can you post pics of your lumbar spine mri if you diddnt already do so? Your situation gives me hope so I would like to compare yours to mine. Healthy discs on an mri look white but my l4l5 that is herniated looks black. I was thinking once your disc is black that is irreversible and your gonna be in pain forever. So If yours is black and you have no pain then that will really give me hope. I have had 24:7 back pain for almost a year now but no leg, hip, butt pain from my herniated l4l5
What was black and purple after surgery? Are you talking about your incision scar? I’m talking about the mri images of your spine not the scar. Like normal discs look white in the middle on mri images. If your disc is black thats not good and my l4l5 that herniated is black.. That’s why if someone like you who’s not in pain has a black disc then that would mean a black disc doesn’t always = pain which would give me hope.. and No I didn't have microdiscectomy surgery. Drs say because I only have back pain and not leg pain I’m not a good candidate for that type of surgery. But I’m going through hell right now man you have no idea
www.researchgate.net/figure/MRI-image-of-a-degenerated-intervertebral-disc-Arrow-indicates-degenerated-black-disc_fig2_308890610 --- this is what I was talking about. Notice the normal discs look white in the middle and then the black one is the bad one
Hey can I ask did you have a lot of leg pain or was it mostly back pain. Ive had a herniated disc for nearly two years but its more or less all back pain I dont have sciatica at all anymore. Im wondering do you have sciatica to have the surgery..the sitting and sleeping thing you describe is exactly like mine. My quality of sleep is terrible. :(
@@greatness260 so I went to see a second surgeon because the first one had recommended an MD...the second surgeon is after saying without sciatica im not a candidate for MD....they are giving me injections and said down the line i may need fushion which is worse..so i guess im just left with this back pain for now. :(
@@deccyc123 my back pain isn't as serious as yours I suppose, but like I said once I'm out of surgery I'll tell you if it got any better. I've had a herniated disc since I was 16 and I'm 19 now, my leg pain and back pain are probably like a 6/10 but my surgeon recommended surgery anyway.
Hi Did u feel leg pain or numbness only before surgery? I got leg pain for 2-3months and now have tolerable pain but numbness over calf and foot. Wondering if surgery could help for the numbness since my dr suggested for conservative treatment if not much leg pain....
dude, come on, they should have explained to you what microdiscectomy was! they take out the ruptured disk pieces, the nucleus pulposus that now is on the nerve canal, which pinches/presses the nerve, not cut the nerve! If they would even accidentally cut or just damage the nerve a little, you may loose all functionality of the limb, bladder control problems, erectile problems, or end up with pain or numbness for your whole life, etc..
Hi, I had my first MRI showing an L5S1 hernia in 2005. I dealt with the pain for all these years with all that you mentioned, quiro, epidurals, etc. until now that I have become a dad, the episodes of sharp stabbing pain started to happen more often. So I had the Microdisectomy done on March 1st . I'm on week 5. From week 1 - 4 I did very little, just walked a lot and was using Tylenol 3, experienced very mild pain and was very happy. Now, on week 5 I was off the meds and started to have a little more mobility, like sitting to eat or just bending a little to brush my teeth AND THE PAIN CAME BACK.
We’ll see.
Needs to be clarified that a microdiscectomy does NOT involve cutting off a piece of the nerve. It cutting off part of the disc which is pressing the nerve. If they cut the sciatic nerve you would not be able to walk.
Thanks Ashton

I am now 6-7 weeks out.

I fasted for 2 days in a row and I strongly believe this worked.
Dave,
My name is Percy and I’m going same situation you mentioned now.
Thanks for sharing bro! Glad your doing well, God bless!
MY bro! Hope all is well!
Thanks for this video. How long did the numbness last after the surgery?
I went thru 4 steroid injection, and I did a lamintomy: I am now doing further images for a disc surgery
How you doing now Joe? I just had mine last week!
@@joem.5536 glad to hear youre still good. hope that thats not permanent. ya nerve was impinged for years so its probably going to be awhile for it to heal completely. wish you continued wellness! thank you for your repsonse.
I'm glad I had good insurance. Once I decided to have the surgery I was scheduled a month later! That's in San Diego with a huge population. Great medical location for sure.
Does anyone have problems sitting after or before surgery?
Had discectomy 5 days ago. Back pain as expected. Had horrific sciatic pain in left leg for 3 months. Tried everything you named. Feeling very discouraged as leg pain is at least 70% back. Chronically.
How are you now?
Hello how you feeling now?
Since your surgery? Has your back ever lock on you? Like another pinch nerve or so?
And through all of this, you still get BUCKETS!! Great story man!
Gods plan 🤞🏼
How much does it cost please does anyone have in idea

Im now one week after L5-S1 microdiscectomy. Before op I could not walk or stand more than a few minutes. After op I could walk and stand again as long as I wanted.
How did you do it and did you re hernate
Bike? Or hike?
Thank you for the info, how long after the surgery were you able to play basketball?
Are you pain free?
Hi there, had my microdiscectomy last month and I'm coming along. I'm 25 and really want to continue lifting and judo, would you personally feel comfortable with those activities all this time later? Thanks!
I’m getting this tomorrow, hoping it works! Seen some comments of people saying they ended up worse. So I’m kind of worried.
How did your surgery go? How are you feeling now?
Are you glad you did?
Those are very less percentage
I had the same surgery in 2020, and it ruptured again. Had the same surgery yesterday
How are you doing now??
@@hosnarastegary6645 better than before
I've been waiting 2 years for this and it's supposed to be happening within the next 3 months why did the same course of injections and exhausted every therapy you name it
Are u able to run now ?
Have my surgery for my 2 herniated disc's on my left side on March 16th. I've tried the injection and other stuff. But just alittle nervous. Thanks for the video.
I have been denied surgery for my L5-S1 from Everyone I’ve seen. I have pain now for 5-6 years and I’m only 24 years. I have done physical therapy, medications, and steroid injections. I have no idea what to do now
I was originally injured from a squating incident when I was 18 in high school although I got better later on. Then unfortunately I got rear ended badly and my back hasn’t recovered since
I’m on the same boat messed it up dead lifting at age 16 and going onto 6 yrs already. Done every treatments s and. Got steroids injection aswell
Same here got rear ended October 2020 just about to get surgery. May 6th is my appointment to schedule and discuss surgery I’m sick of living with this pain.
Do you think you could return to football or boxing after this surgery?
I had a L5/S1 disc bulge which was pressing the nerve. 9 months of mild to severe. After physio, pain relief and the option of cortisone injection I went for surgery option and a microdisectomy. After just 24 hours I was pain free, it was liberating. I had some mild nerve pain at week 4 but this was down to the nerve still being irritated and calming after surgery. Week 6 and I’m back to photo and looking forward to getting active again. Especially gym/golf. I can wholeheartedly say that the surgery was the best choice I could’ve made.
Hey! How are you now? Any pain? Gym, running?
@@k27s94 tbh I’m doing really well. Still get mild sciatic pain in my leg but it’s nothing really. Back playing golf and doing Pilates, I’ll move to gym in the spring as I’ve been told to be patient and give it 6 months before I start loading again. Couldn’t recommend the procedure enough.

Hello! im 11 days post surgery now... im still feeling the same symptoms you just mentioned.. did it get better with time?
Thanks so much for making this video. I’m post op 3 months but still have hard time sitting or especially driving for more than 15-20 min before I start having lower back pain. How long did it take you to be able sit longer with no back pain?
has that gone away?
Hello. I'm going tru then same thing. How you feeling now.? Pain went away??
Can you post pics of your lumbar spine mri if you diddnt already do so? Your situation gives me hope so I would like to compare yours to mine. Healthy discs on an mri look white but my l4l5 that is herniated looks black. I was thinking once your disc is black that is irreversible and your gonna be in pain forever. So If yours is black and you have no pain then that will really give me hope. I have had 24:7 back pain for almost a year now but no leg, hip, butt pain from my herniated l4l5
Mine was black and purple after surgery, have you had the microdiscectomy surgery?
What was black and purple after surgery? Are you talking about your incision scar? I’m talking about the mri images of your spine not the scar. Like normal discs look white in the middle on mri images. If your disc is black thats not good and my l4l5 that herniated is black.. That’s why if someone like you who’s not in pain has a black disc then that would mean a black disc doesn’t always = pain which would give me hope.. and No I didn't have microdiscectomy surgery. Drs say because I only have back pain and not leg pain I’m not a good candidate for that type of surgery. But I’m going through hell right now man you have no idea
@@v.stiviano735 I did not know MRIs showed colors? I was referring to the incision point post surgery
www.researchgate.net/figure/MRI-image-of-a-degenerated-intervertebral-disc-Arrow-indicates-degenerated-black-disc_fig2_308890610 --- this is what I was talking about. Notice the normal discs look white in the middle and then the black one is the bad one
Do you get what I was saying bro? I’m sorry to confuse you
Hey can I ask did you have a lot of leg pain or was it mostly back pain. Ive had a herniated disc for nearly two years but its more or less all back pain I dont have sciatica at all anymore. Im wondering do you have sciatica to have the surgery..the sitting and sleeping thing you describe is exactly like mine. My quality of sleep is terrible. :(
I have the same issue so, after my surgery on Friday ill let you know how I'm feeling with the back pain
Hey any updates on your surgery and if it helped your back pain? I have the same issue. Herniated disc with only back pain no leg pain
How much did it cost
Thanks for the vid 👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you
Did you have to get a discogram? Was it awful? I’m so worried about that test. But want the surgery. Question for anyone who had one
Hi bro , when u started running and lifting weights in gym?
Hi
Did u feel leg pain or numbness only before surgery? I got leg pain for 2-3months and now have tolerable pain but numbness over calf and foot. Wondering if surgery could help for the numbness since my dr suggested for conservative treatment if not much leg pain....
dude, come on, they should have explained to you what microdiscectomy was! they take out the ruptured disk pieces, the nucleus pulposus that now is on the nerve canal, which pinches/presses the nerve, not cut the nerve! If they would even accidentally cut or just damage the nerve a little, you may loose all functionality of the limb, bladder control problems, erectile problems, or end up with pain or numbness for your whole life, etc..
thanks man for the video bro
No problem 👍
Hi David, Great Video!!! Who was your surgeon???
Like the stabbing sharp pain that I had before the surgery. So my question to you is, when you talk about getting better and better in your videos, having less pain with time. What type of pain? Did you experienced as I do right now? (As if the hernia was still there) Or after the surgery you nevered experienced such strong pains ever? (Thank you for your videos).
From 2005 to now. Don’t you think your nerve has been through to many years of pinching or inflammation process? I suppose you need longer time to recover completely.
Did your surgeon tell this?
@@manuell.sanchezrodriguez6053 Yes, I'm almost done with PT. This is month 3 after surgery. Still have discomfort most mornings, but I haven't had any strong pain anymore. PT was eye opening, there's much I still can't do. I would recommend getting the surgery done. Don't wait too long people.
