    I have just had microdiscectomy on my l5 disc and s1 nerve root. I have had severe pain/numbness/ tingling sensations down the whole of my left leg and left foot for the past 9 months. When i woke up from the anaesthetic, i was able to walk around the ward absolutely pain free. I have minor pain at the incision site. It is going to be a tough next few month's with regards to recovery etc , but i have read so many posts and threads on this operation. some negative and some positive. I was completely on the fence with it but i think it comes down to individual themselves, and for me it has been worth it so far , yes it is early days but before surgery i couldnt sit, walk, sleep, lay down. The pain was excruciating. The truth is, once you have a back injury, you always have a back injury. But you can learn to manage it. Tell your kids to treat there spine like a piece glass. But in my opinion, wether this operation is beneficial and worth doing, is COMPLETELY down to the individual.

    I am 12 days post op from an endoscopic discectomy. Pain is gone. I can finally sit and stand. However, a huge problem right now is numbness and weakness of the backside of lower extremities from my buttocks down to my toes. I cannot walk properly coz it feels like I cant lift my legs properly. It sucks so bad 🥲

      @@farazmotovlogger much better! However, there is still numbness in my toes and the back part of my legs, and weakness on the outer sides of my leg muscles. Doctor says my nerves are still healing. It has significantly improved since my surgery but I still can't walk straight due to the leg issue where i don't have tiptoe force on my left leg.

    I’ve been having the discomfort for twenty years and same been doing all the conservative treatments but my lifestyle is affected. I would just go out and do sports whenever I feel good about myself but after a few days my nerve pain will hit me. I’ll be having the surgery in 5 days time. My medications for pain really made me like a robot i feel no pain but anxiety and suicidal thoughts would linger due to meds especially the opioids I’m taking. I had to cut down on them and take it before sleep but sometimes gives me nightmares or insomnia. Anxiety is always there like I couldn’t drive anymore. It’s a bit concerning especially the suicidal thoughts someone who doesn’t have any medical backgroundor good understanding of the meds will most likely attempt suicide. Mainly support is very important and being hopeful to do usual athletic things pain free is my motivation especially family and the Lord. I’ll follow you through and hopefully be in the same course of recovery in few weeks time. Do you go to the pool often or sauna? Bike? Or hike?

    Hi Katie, the morning of the op I couldn’t take my usual painkillers so had to wait 2-3 hours in the hospital room awaiting the call to go down. The pain was other worldly, I paced around the room for almost two hours. Upon coming around from surgery I felt almost instant relief. I slept fine that in the hospital room and walked out the next day. Obviously a bit stiff in the scar area and a little bruised but no sciatica (thank goodness). It’s been 18 months and the best decision I made. Hope it goes well for you!

  • @greg9069

    I had a back surgery at 23… wound up that the surgeon couldn’t get the disc herniation, it was too massive, so he left it in my central canal and did a 2 level laminectomy, I had no sciatica for 6 weeks, then it came back with a new back and hip pain, and hard to walk.. I’m almost 26 now, haven’t worked, haven’t worked out. Haven’t done much, they’re offering me another surgery now.. the truth is, everyone is different, someone with a wider spinal column will have much better results from a discectomy, where as someone with congenital stenosis will likely have life altering effects from having just 1 disc injury.. I have 3, had no idea I had stenosis, it’s severe and surgery couldn’t fix it, the disc herniations are relatively small but for me they are massive and completely shut my spinal column crushing the nerves.. it’s hurt every second for 2 years now, oxycodone and morphine are starting to work less and less so idk what to do lol

      How you feeling now? 2 weeks post op and in a much better place than before. I was able to walk straight away and did 10,000 steps easily 2 days later. Started experiencing some nerve pain after around 7 days once the meds wore off and was told this is the nerve healing. Was given some meds to continue which has helped straight away and told to start physio. 2 sessions per week. Overall feel good, strong but just hoping for the nerve to heal as I don't want to stay on the meds.

      @@boxmanic hey man, I am now 6-7 weeks out. I feel that my back is stronger than before. No back pain at all just mild discomfort here and there but nothing major. The nerve pain is way better than before surgery but around 5 weeks it started to get worse all of sudden. I had another MRI, no re herniation and it was just irritation. They told me it is very common for the nerves to get irritated post surgery. The nerve pain started to get better again. I also hope that the nerve pain gets better but I was told it takes weeks to months (depends how much it was affected)

    • @boxmanic

      @maheration great to hear, I know a friend who had a fusion in the neck and the nerve took over a year to heal. So I think the nerve healing will take time. Blood circulation is supposed to help improve the nerve regeneration process. I am a great fan of cupping and aim to start that to improve the blood flow but will wait around 2 months of recovery before starting that.

    • @cinematicpath
      @cinematicpath 9 місяців тому
