These are just some of the characteristics of the 1990 Chrysler Imperial that Graeme Fletcher detailed on this edition of Test Drive more than 25 years ago.

I had one of these, very nice car. I replaced the air ride suspension with the suspension from a Dodge Dynasty of the same vintage. Coil Springs and After Market Air Shocks were a great improvement over the original system on city streets and country roads.
I was thinking about getting one man, did yours ever have any major problems with it? Or was it an all around good car
I had one of these back in the 1990's, and I'm the opposite. I actually loved the air suspension. My only complaint about the car was the transmission, as it gave me HUGE headaches throughout ownership of the vehicle. Had to have the whole transmission rebuilt, and even after that, it never worked properly. You still could not beat that soft ride. I loved that aspect of it.
That 3.3 sounds great when floored in the acceleration runs.
Thats over $70,000 today. The best 300c is only around $57,000 but this car did offer more rear legroom and 6 passenger.
The video is Canadian, so their dollar number values read 25 to 30% higher. The Imperial in 1990 started at around $26K in US dollars.

@@romanseano i just checked historical exchange information and it looks like in 1990 1 USD = 1.15 CAD to 1.18 CAD which would put this shitbox car at $41,648 CAD equates to $35,800 (thereabouts) in USD, then accounting for inflation is in the neighborhood of $72,000 in 2019 USD. But I suck at math.
@@bakaboy2000 Your math is probably fine, but the fact is the 1990 Imperial's MSRP in the US was just below $26,000 USD (not $35,800).
I own a 1991 Chrysler imperial with the mark cross lesther all the dusty pearl paint. I have the original twist wire rims only has 130k on it. All vintage red its very nice

I am surprise you gave a good note to this car. Motorweek was more critical. Nothing to do against the Germans, Lexus and even Cadillac and Lincoln of the time
I had a chance buying a Chrysler New Yorker but I ended up getting a proper full-sized car a Mercury Grand which lasted me a very long time . 😊

I have a 1990 Chrysler imperial Gloria Vanderbilt! She sure is beautiful except for that German made bosche braking system which was horrible!!

3:08 does that say what I think it says? Are those US dollars?!?! Accounting for inflation, $41,648 in 1990 equates to $84,083 in 2019 dollars. Can you imagine? For this bucket of shit? I say bucket of shit, because I used to own one a loooooong time ago. Horrid piece of machinery, but the A/C was the coldest A/C I've ever experienced up until then and to this day.

3.3>3.8. For the minimal HP difference, you lose reliability. The 3.3 was the better engine. It's pretty ridiculous to have a sub-150 HP engine in a big car like that, but then again, these cars and the NYers and 5th Aves weren't designed to go fast. In a lot of ways I prefer them to the Cadillac, where leather was far more common, the V8s tended to have major mechanical problems and didn't give you much in the way of added power over Chrysler's V6s. But again, these cars weren't meant for racing and I love that about them. If they'd had 200 HP, that would have been plenty. I much prefer the velour interior to the leather. You can get leather in basically any car now. Velour isn't even offered in cars anymore and it's a lot more comfortable. You also don't get burned in the summer with shorts and a t shirt in the summer. I still find it amusing that in modern reviews, people complain about all the hard plastics used in cars these days, but if you didn't like fake wood or plastic, you were basically out of luck and in these cars, it didn't matter.
It's hard to believe people bought this over a Lexus.

Because they're good cars if you took care of them. I still have my 93 Chrysler New Yorker salon with over 300k miles and still hitting 80mph on the highway if I choose to.
