    JazakAllah, it turned out exactly as I have tasted it before. Now just waiting to see if i can roll into a log with parchment paper like we would get in the stores, when it cools down. Thank you so much. I added a bit of red colouring to give it a more burnt orange look instead of the brown.

    • @88sdk
      @88sdk Рік тому

      I just read in your reply below that adding a bit of cornstarch will make it firm, so i might reheat it and add the cornstarch for my log rolling 🙏

      After testing i have learned that i needed to cook it much longer (as well as adding more slurry) and i added a lot more oil to achieve a more denser jello look after which i could roll it into parchment to get my “log”. After refrigeration i was able to cut out slices and for serving i place it in the microwave for 15/20 seconds which releases the extra oil and tastes so good served slightly warm 💖 Thank you. This is what we would eat - Mombasa halwa - as someone had mentioned in the comments.

    Thank you SO much for this recipe! I'm from Bahrain and we eat this in my country too. I have tried 2 times to make this before and failed miserably (it was inedible...) but I finally managed to make it work with your recipe :) and it's DELICIOUS!!

      @@aromaofzanzibar Absolutely! I have one question - how long does this halwa last and how should I store it?
      I left mine outside in a air-tight container, but after 2 days it lost its texture and became hard. Do you know how I could avoid this?

      Yes, but the western Indian states like Kerala also make them, and maybe, just maybe they invented it. I have seen one version of their recipe and they use whole wheat which is soaked in water and then ground to a paste. In Uganda we used to get it from Mombasa (it is very popular along the Swahili coast), and in the past -1960's and before - the shops used to wrap it in a cone shaped woven pocket made of palm fronds. The smell of the zaffaran and cardamom was heavenly.!!
