I panicked for a second thinking I had missed the North American release of Ys 10. Ys 8 is easily in my top 5 favorite games of all time, so I’m absolutely stoked to play this one when it comes out over here
No worry, ys 10 is JUST OKAY... Even if u would miss 10, as far as u played masterpiece 8 and fun 9, you are all good. I'm very disappointed due to my high expectations lol (Just finished game 100% completed w hard mode on PS5; no platinum trophy yet. Asian ver btw).

@@Truth-Justice-FreedomWe’ll see when we get the NA release. Thus far, not a single Ys game has disappointed me, and I’ve played through Origin, Celceta, Oath in Felgana, 6,7,8 and 9, so I’ve got high hopes
I cant imagine 10 to be disappointing. People said 9 was disappointing and honestly it was a really good game, it just wasn't 8 levels of good.

I am crazy excited for Ys 10! I am playing through all the games right now. I am almost done with Oath in Felgana. Ive played through almost every game and have already beaten 8 and 9. It will be interesting to see how this fits in to the story of the earlier games.
Love this! Been a fan of Ys since I played origins years ago and went thru all the games. Definitely gonna be checking this one out when it comes out in English

The hallmark of an Ys game is that luscious, fluid action combat, and this looks like it will deliver there in spades.

Thank you for introducing Falcom to me. Aside from YS, i love 'The Legend of Heroes' series, do you?
He already said one of their RPGs was just kind of okay in a past video. Only mentioned it in passing. I think it was a games we've been playing episode. Basically, he's not that into it.
just goes to show how different tastes are, cause I think Ys doesn't even remotely come close to reaching the highs of the legend of heroes series, although to be fair its definitely way harder to get into the kiseki series, cause there is just so much (frankly a bit too much) story, lore and worldbuilding.
and this is coming from somebody who usually generally prefers action combat! Though I do think Ys VIII is a fantastic game as well.
@@AlkonKommyeah, i love Ys. i haven't played trails, but it looks like it has too much dialogue and explaining for me. I think good world building in a game (vs. a novel) doesn't need that so much. So the supposed strength of the game still doesn't make sense to me as i prefer world building in a different way. I might play trails some day. I'm actually playing Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails now, but that's more of an action RPG that is apparently pretty much not related to the other trails games. The parts of the game that are now dialogue heavy get a bit tiresome for me.
The legend of heroes is one of my favourite game series - I always look forward to the English translations

@@protolegacy9184 Pretty much everyone says Ys VIII is the best. I'll probably play some of the other titles first because of that reason. I'm definitely looking forward to playing more of the series.
Memories of Celceta's another good one (and one I heavily prefer to Lacrimosa and Nox), would definitely recommend playing it when you get the chance, goes on sale pretty often regardless of platform too

@@90shandheldgamerAn Oath In Felghana is amazing. I have a hacked Vita which you can play a ton of Y's games from the PSP generation and also to Origins,Ys 7, Celceta and Y's 8 .
The games play so natural on the Playstation Vita hardware , a true handheld experience. Yes its older but worth the money imho.
love the Ys8 and Ys9 music in the background of this video, the soundtrack is fucking godlike and i listen to it on spotify all the time
I have only played one Ys game, and that was Ys Origins. But this game looks amazing. I think I will definitely get this.
The graphics in this game are a huge step up from past games. Its not "realistic" like AAA games always try to be, but the lighting, cinematography, animations, and even level designs is clearly a big upgrade
If only something like Xenoblade could get even half the lighting engine and horsepower from a PS5/PC that this game does, would be mind-blowing. JRPGs the past few years have really leveled up their art design and fidelity after being fairly stagnant from the PS3 generation through the PS4 generation

@@Mihai11089 Amazing, loved every second of it. unfortunately Ys 9 did not grab me the same way Ys 8 did i just didn't vibe with the gloomy theme.
However im REALLY looking forward to Ys 10! they seem to be going back to the tropical setting which i loved so much in Ys 8 so im gonna be picking it up for sure.

I respect the dedication. Way back in the day I made a japanese xbox account to play dark souls 3 slightly early, in japanese. I used a translation app to help me get through the UI options! So I get it. I can't wait to play Ys X, honestly tempted to do what you did
@Happy I love and adore how your fandom for this franchise, and for the jrpg genre in general. Best to you, Kim and your little one :). As for me I have always liked the Ys games they are in my top 10 of the jrpg franchises but my favorite three are Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest and the Suikoden games.
I actually love scenery that reminds me of the ol' PS2, and PS3 days. This Ys game is a must for me. Thanks for the preview / first thoughts Johnny.
I was hoping to see your thoughts on this. Your Ys videos convinced me to try VIII, which I adored. I've played a bunch of the other ones now, but the modern Ys games are really my speed (I loved IX as well). I can't wait for the English localization for this one! Looks super fun
I've had the PS5 version of YS 8 on my shelf since it first released and played about 20 minutes of it before putting it down. With the announcement and your video on X I finally decided to actually give 8 a proper go and it's incredible. It really lives up to praise I've seen it get all over the place! I am eagerly awaiting Nordics Western release!!
I am really looking forward to the western release and I also hope that they bring over the Oath in Felghana switch version when they do! Currently working my way through Ys 9. I fought a really tough boss there which made me want to replay Ys 8 xD

We grew up with a lot less quality graphics, so we can appreciate it alot more I think.
Never played a Ys but always been curious and I typically dig this Nordic stuff - anxious for some reviews.
I had a Japan trip that coincided with the release of YS X so I brought it back and while it kinda sucks to have to run everything through google translate I am really loving YS X. Feels really cool playing a game probably a year and a half away in the US. Having played a lot of the games on the Vita, YS X looks so good. I can’t wait to double dip when it comes to America!
Ys X is probably one of my most anticipated games.
My first Ys game was Ys Origin, which I didn't actually like as my first Ys game. I found it confusing, and the game being set entirely in a tower didn't excite me.
Many years later I would keep hearing about the series and wanted to try another one, so I looked up "Best Ys Games" - looking at top 10 lists, watching a bunch of reviews, some from your channel too, in an attempt to find the "best" one and give it another shot. I ended up picking up Ys 8, which overall had a slightly slow start (like most RPGs) but the gameplay was engaging and kept me around, and then some plot stuff happens and I was absolutely hooked from there - leading me to fall in love with the game and becoming one of my all-time favorite games ever.
Since playing Ys 8, i've gone back and played most of the others in the series and loved almost all of them too. And going back to Ys Origin after playing the others became a lot more interesting to me since I had some context for the tower and characters.
Overall Ys games are incredibly interesting to me, and have some of my personal favorite aspects of video games combined into one. Confident I'll love Ys X too and can't wait to eventually get my hands on it. ^^
PS. it was around early 2020 I played Ys 8, and I played it on Switch. So I never saw or even knew about the infamous bad translation that existed on launch.
Can't wait for Ys 10, liked Ys 8 but really loved Ys 9.

Ys has always been about a decent story, lovable cast of characters, an amazing soundtrack, awesome level design and most importantly good ass action n crazy good bosses. Ys X seems to be going back to some of its routes and giving a deeper dive to what makes it special, and I can't wait for it (copefully end next year after daybreak!)

Some of the preview posts on reddit I've seen were a bit mid on this one so I'm glad to see you so positive about it. Ys 8 was my first and is still my favourite, so it's great to hear X has a similar vibe. Cannot wait for this, I just hope we get the English language release before 2025 😅 Great preview my dude

I knew about 1 and 2 then just didn't have a way to play them till years later.
Now I just need Ys V and I'll be happy
You really had me going with that screenshot. I got all excited for a second. I was like “how in the world did I miss this?” lol. I recently finished Memories of Celceta, so this will be a nice follow up to that. I loved Ys 8 and 9 and I am really excited for Ys 10. You gonna check out AC Mirage? I don’t know where you stand on AC games, but this one is really good and it reminds me a lot of AC 1 which I loved.
100% imported it too. Ys is my favorite videogame franchise and Ys VIII probably my favorite game of all time with Ys IX not far behind hehe. You can be sure I'm not waiting for the english version hehehe. Glad you're enjoying it brother.
Ys 7 got me into the series and Ys 8 is my favorite although those are the only 2 i played. I like 7 because you can play as Dogi.

Been a huge fan of Ys since Wanderers from Ys, and I just ordered a copy. I'll buy it again when it comes to NA, but I simply cannot wait to play this.

I imported ys memoires the oath in felgahna bc i already know the story but waiting for ys x bc i wanna know the story and dont wanna spoil myself lol. I cant wait tho i love ys! I hope Ys V Lost Kefin gets a remake next then Ys XI is older Adol again after Ys IX

I don't like jrpgs mostly, but I'm always drawn to YS, the action, the frame rate, the music. It just creates such an appealing vibe.

Ive heard of this series from time to time but I never tried it out or even looked into it, however looking at what you showed it does peak my interest so I might try it out, though joining a series late into its running can complicate an experience so maybe i'll have to play some of the older games before Ys X.
Play Ys 8 for sure. Origin and Oath on PC are great games to jump into and play
If you worried about stories, don't be. Ys story never really connected with each other. Each games is it's own story and new characters except adol and maybe his best friend dougi
Just finished Ys X. It's really fantastic. Hope the English version will be available soon so that more people can enjoy this great game.

John you HAVE to play Legend of Nayuta that just released. Another Falcom Action RPG that is similiar to the Ys games. It's such an amazing game...

If i remember correctly my first ys was on snes. Ys 3 i think? Wanderers from y i think it was called.
I'm really excited for this one. I live in Japan so I could get it easily, but my backlog and the general gaming landscape is so packed for me right now that I'm going to wait to play it in English. I'm liking what I'm seeing though, especially the naval exploration, combat and island environment. This will be my 4th game in the series after 8, 9, and Origin.

Game looks great! My only gripe with it is the UI. If they could move that thing on the right to the upper right edge of the screen it would be perfect.

I watched the full story of YS IX Monstrum Nox, and it was about as good as a higher quality Bollywood movie. It's competent and the characters likeable, but rarely was it memorable.
The most notable plot point in the entire game that stuck with me is when the young cat girl, who had been stealing money and openly giving it out to the townsfolk in the streets on several occasions, actually observed the aftermath of her actions and saw how insanely fast the townsfolk became overly entitled. It was almost overnight that their attitudes changed from gratitude and positivity to expecting the hand out and complaining when the next expected hand out didn't appear. They stopped working hard at their jobs, the price of goods and services quickly hyperinflated, and the people were generally becoming miserable and destitute because nearly nothing was getting done anymore.
This is *EXACTLY* what would happen in real life, and it shows how misguided the 'robinhood' fantasy is. It was amazing to see it play out and for the young cat girl to actually demonstrate real atonement for what she did as she helps motivate the townsfolk to get back on their feet and build their lives again through hard work all throughout little touching moments through the entirety of the game, not just in one scene. Whoever wrote that side-story in the game is a genius, and had the entire game had such a deep and realistic plot and characters, the game could have been an RPG masterpiece because the gameplay was on point.
But ya otherwise It's just nothing to write home about. There were several set ups for truly engaging story telling and character development, but the writers just didn't follow through with it nearly every time.

Ys VIII made me think this and footage of Ys X confirms it: Falcom should be put on a Sonic The Hedgehog title. With Ys, Falcom has demonstrated time and time again that they understand pace and momentum more than any other developer out there, with their vibrant ascetics always being on point.

As long as the combat is solid, music is dope and the story is ridiculous I'll be happy with this.
I really need to get around to playing Ys IX before this comes out in the west. Have had the collector's edition sealed, waiting for the right time to play it.
They are really not my type of game but if I see one on discount I will buy it.... just for the music.
i am eagerly awaiting 10. 8 was jaw droppingingly good. 9 was a great but every character was fun to play. i am giving myself long enough to forget the games so i can replay them with fresh eyes.

I'm HELLA excited!! I will probably just wait for the North American version, but the funny thing is I'm literally just gonna turn the vocals on Japanese with English subtitles, anyway, like I tend to always do with JRPGs. The difference is having the translation on the screen instead of having to use google translate. This will be a day 1 buy for me when the NA version drops, tho
The flash system is gone. And the boss fight now feels like dark soul level.
