      be that as it may, throttle control isn't something you're born with, and mistakes are amplified on a litre bike.

      Weight would be a factor as well for new riders. I think a liter bike is safer than a 1300 Harley that ways 600 or 700lbs.

    Be safe bro.

    He's a braver man than me. I picked up an R1 a month ago after not riding since 07'. A month of crack of dawn Saturday and Sunday riding before I rode midday traffic. Rode all my normal routes with minimal traffic to get used to the bike. Previous bike was a old 90 something gxr600. Big leap to the 05' R1. Respect the power.

    • @beamdoctor5637
      @beamdoctor5637 8 років тому +7

      True respect the power, I still have my old 1999 R1 and still respect the power. Exiting a corner leaned over; hard on the throttle in 2nd or 3 rd gear still takes some restraint just in case I hit some slippery pavement. 17 years and counting and this old R1 . Better to be safe to some degree than sorry and high side. I remember back in the day many guys crashing them because they were so powerful and light compared to previous bikes.

      Ogre Doug ...u r right, the R1 is certainly not the best beginner bike, especially for someone who wants to keep up with the other guys that r fast. Me, I know who I am and what I am risking everytime I start my bike, and that makes me a very aware rider that doesn't push my limits (which are pretty big right now).

  • @ethancknight
    @ethancknight 3 роки тому +13

    It wasn’t until I got my motorcycle a couple days ago and have been riding that I realized why people say don’t buy a big bike as your first one.
    Sure, if you don’t screw up, you’ll be fine. If you never accidentally drop the clutch too fast, or accidentally give too much throttle in a turn, and never accidentally do anything wrong, you’ll never have a problem.
    But I’ve come to realize that in certain situations when there’s a lot going on around you, I tend to sometimes accidentally give a little too much throttle, or Mis judge my clutches friction zone, and I’m safe when I do that because I picked a slower bike. But in a liter bike? I imagine I wouldve dropped it already because it’s not forgiving like mine is.

    • @YouTubeSupportTeams

    • @Valkyrie11b
      @Valkyrie11b Рік тому +2

      @@UA-camSupportTeams His advice is very true and completely logical.
      Liter bikes are way less forgiving when mistakes are made, and beginners happen to make a lot of little mistakes, and sometimes big ones.

    • @YouTubeSupportTeams
      @YouTubeSupportTeams Рік тому

      @@Valkyrie11b any beginner getting on a litre bike is brain dead anyway. You don't just start from day 1 on a litre bike because you have the licence, but someone experienced on powerful dirt bikes or even a 125 and has been riding for a long time and has the maturity and respect for a powerful machine can certainly ride a litre bike in low performance mode if available. I'm not even bringing a complete novice into the equation, thats just mental. But MANY people have started on a litre bike, not that i recommend it at all, especially if they are under 25.

    I know the feeling. A few years back I bought a used Yamaha FJR1300 Sport touring bike, and I had not ridden in over forty years. They had to deliver it because I had not gotten my license yet. I took the Harley Davidson motorcycle course over three or four days, but it still did not prepare me what the power of that kind of engine could do. I really didn't get comfortable with it for at least six months riding a couple times a week. BUT, after I got used to it wow what a ride. Just to test my skills I took it up to 130 one day on the freeway to see if I could handle it. Yeah what a rush !!!

    Just a comment about one other guy I knew some time back, so don't take this as a comment on you or what lays ahead. This guy had ridden a little when young, some 90cc bike mostly off road. 12 years later after no riding he purchased a liter bike and rode much as you have in this video. After riding about 8000 miles with no accidents, he went for one of those great morning rides with the cool but not cold temps. About two miles from home, he was feeling really good and comfortable on the bike and confident he had dodged the problems coming up the learning curve. At a stop sign, he had something less than a 90 degree turn to make and decided to accelerate quickly (not really hard as he tells it). As you can guess an accident insued, the liter bike first broke traction at the rear tire and started sliding, then lifted the front wheel, the now experience rider naturally closed the throttle as quickly as possible and when the front wheel touched down, the bike tossed him as he also said 10 feet in the air in a high-side. Now if you can explain all the issue and conditions that led to the accident, you are ahead of the curve, but regardless you still are riding a machine that can kill and cripple the best riders on the planet so NEVER lose the respect it is due. Good luck and ride safe.

    I live in Cobb County the charge is the book value. You're also required to have minimal insurance. QT is second to Chevron in quality of additives. Most sportbikes have sorry extension on the mirrors, and you can buy extenders on EBAY. Work on your counter steering so the twisties will be much easier. Your bike is a street legal racing bike, so that's what you will be riding.

    The uk has a very intensive motorcycle progression system CBT-Theory-A1-A2-A with each A section having 2 modules. Specifically to stop this, very inexperienced riders going straight on the top most powerful motorcycles. I normally tell people don't ride a liter bike if your new, because most people don't know how to reframe from going fast and staying below their skill set. But it is not impossible.

    You're doing good. Starting off slowly and sensibly. I just bought a zx11 and haven't ridden in 27 yrs. It's second nature. Focus on safety and skill. Learning to ride fast and take corners hard etc should not be on your mind yet.

    Now that's it's been some tie, do you think starting off on a liter bike was smart? I ask because I'm looking to get my first bike, and I've had some tell me that because I'm 6'2 600 is too small, and I'll probably get bored.

    • @Fj4LiFe23

      a 600 won't be to small for you, swing by a dealership and sit on one.

      I would not recommend some who does not have experience riding a bike to start on a 600 let a lone a 1000. Take a course and go from there. That is my opinion. People have started on 1000s or higher, it just depends on how smart you are.

      its the actual bike not the engine size, just find a good tall person bike. i'm 6'3 and i fit fine on a ninja 250, but cbr250 is too short for me, dual sports are always tall, i fit on a 200cc dual sport very well, my everyday is a kawaski zr7, but i also ride a suzuki bandit 600 and a 1965 honda s90, i fit fine on all of them

    • @Real_MisterSir
      @Real_MisterSir 8 років тому

      Agreed, and even people of similar height fit differently on bikes. I am 6ft3 as well, and I fit fine on bikes that other 6ft people complain about. Best thing to do is go to dealers and simply try sitting on bikes, and potentially take some for test rides etc. It is free, and a must if you aren't sure what kind of bike size suits you :) And no, power wise a 600 won't be too small, and size is highly depending of what 600 bike you look at.

    Nice bike fella, yeah that 1000cc takes a bit to use after a hiatus of years, but You are handling just fine from where is sit. Just a quick note, I started riding my K100krs 1987 vintage last spring and I had a ball and still do. I am 75 and havent riden a bike since 1963 in Austria. Even then it was a 126cc puch scooter... Fast forward, bought this beast and dropped it a few times twice on low side and three other times by getting too enthusiastic with the front brake on gravel. Attached the mirrors back on fairing and off we go. It goes well over 2,, and it wants to rip my arms from shoulders, but it a whole lot of fun for a old crazy geezer like mw. Ps, your comment on lousy back mirrors, I got same issue, just dont bother with the back view so much hahahha

    8-9 years without riding isn't a big deal if the person's got 20 years experience riding bikes. He just took a break for a while (probably into fast cars - like many of us). Then he decided to get back into riding a bike.
    BUT if you have NO experience riding a motorcycle I think it's STUPID to get a Liter Bike. You really need to get a solid 5 years experience riding smaller bikes first.
    I had about 7 years experience (on and off road) before I moved to a really fast bike, and I still had to be careful and take my time.

Corners at 140mph are easy de to the steering damper....had brakes stripped and rebuilt at 40 Thou, only problem was the Honda supplier at build stage supply the wrong alternator which blew crakacse gasket and burnt out...twice! Had a professional alternator rebuil which solved it. In the wet on new tyres you could go as fast as you liked! Stopped on a dime and accelarated hard when neded....in side by side encounter kep ahead Nissan GTR and DESTROYED a caterham who thought he was fast! Geared for 186MPH if you wanna go that quick....on a track of course! Standing start 0-100 just over 5secs...insane lean angles if you are good enough...ripped off my right side footrest cornering at 70mph once and didnt crash either! Great bike..sound ed awesome with standard pipe!

    liter bikes are not for the fainted hearted even the r6 or the cbr600r are scary. Just 5% of the throttle is enough to learn stepwise to be the master of a liter bike. starting with a 600 is more scary than this one as liter bikes the powerband is on the high rpm side 7000> under that its just a 500cc.
