I love it when people who own dressage horses are open to jumping. I love how you change what you do because I agree; dressage is repetitive. @@theerinwilliams Exactly! I've always been of the opinion that cross discipline training is incredibly important. Not only does it keep the horse engaged, but they learn something in another activity that will help them with their main training. Barrel horses focus on tight turns; that would be a great help to a focused jumper. Pole bending would be a great tool to help with flying lead changes and stride length. And dressage provides all of them with flexibility. :)

If people come at you they are ridiculous. You can comfortably jump like 2ft in a dressage saddle no problem! I do tiny cross rails almost every ride to give my mare variety!
its fine with the smaller jumps, however its a lot easier for the rider, coming from experience when my mare decided that she would fly over the trotting poles as if it were at least 2ft...

I completely agree with what you said regarding doing different things. Dressage horses can benefit from some jumping work, and jumpers can benefit from dressage work. Not only is it something new and different, but doing one will give you and the horse tools that they can bring back to the other.
This was cool to watch and can’t wait to see more. I wouldn’t worry about using a dressage saddle :) ( i used to lease and the only saddle that was fitted was a jump saddle so I did everything in the jump saddle, including dressage moves )
He looks very good - he keeps his collection after the jump which really helps with using his back and neck correctly. I think he jumps "weird" because he is used to a collected canter in frame (which is amazing and very hard to achieve!) instead of a more forward canter with a "flatter" neck seen when jumpers jump

Hi there, just thought I'd pop in and say doing cross training with horses is a fantastic idea and gives them something else to think about. Another exercise you could try is making a basic hunter course out of rails, then changing your striding to collections and extensions in between. In the winter time we ride all our jumpers in dressage training and start back to jumping early spring, I do small courses (under 3') when the horses get a bit bored but otherwise it's solid dressage. Also, the reason your horse lands so heavy on the far side is because he doesn't break over the fence. That is to say, he doesn't lift from his shoulder and lower his pole. But it's not surprising considering it's such a small fence and he's very green. Not a big deal and he looks pretty confused so a good try on his part!
He did great, but if you wanna do the jumping again maybe try to get more out of your saddle and stay out of you saddle for a step after the jump. and also put your hands forward and keep them more forward for as long as you stay out of the saddle. That should help him arch his back and make he want to jump it.
It’s a dressage saddle with large knee rolls on the front. She has a very gentle seat, and he’s never jumped in his life so for a first attempt this is really damn good. I think she knows what she’s doing😅
Good start even though he has no idea what he is doing yet. Keep it up though as in France in a cavalry school the Dressage horses were always exposed first to a little jumping in the inside arena. Once they (and their Dressage riders) began to have some experience with jumping they would be taken outside to practice some dressage on the grass and finally start jumping low but solid jumps. They gradually learned to jump up and down banks and take bigger jumps from a hand gallop. The horses were quite excited to work outdoors and like your horse, their gaits improved and were more animated after they had a chance to jump. It was exciting to see how much their Dressage improved when they had learned to move out enthusiastically on the way around a big steeplechase course. The height of the jumps was kept relatively small but the width was gradually enlarged so that the horses gained height without feeling challenged by the obstacles. Your boy looked lovely for his first time jumping and the chance to go outside at the end was a great idea to keep him fresh and happy.
Have you considered having him free jump? It might be easier for him to figure out how to get his legs right if you have him do it without a rider. He seems like a real sweetie :)
Good for you!!! You're so right, this is awesome for him and for you.You handled it great. ALL riders should take your lead and drop the rails down when they get flustered!! When I rode jumpers I insisted on schooling some dressage movements into my training which got me laughed at but I didn't care!! lol Then when I started with dressage I kept trotting and canter rails and snuck in some jumps when no one was looking. What is up with such division, horses need to be athletes, both disciplines compliment the other at the lower levels anyway. I wouldn't ask a jumper to suddenly piaffe or sail over a 5 ft combination on a dressage horse who's not experienced but the basics are awesome and gives them something new to think about. And who cares what people say, I think you both did great!! One of these day you should try out a little gymnastics, keep them low but just have fun!! What an amazing team you are, he's too cute to be true!!! Congrats on a job well don't!!! Bravo!!!
It's easy to forget how dressage horses are gymnast and powerful!!!! He is not familiar on how to distribute his weight and power over obstacles. He did wonderful for first time considering his strength! Amazing ride!
if I can give you a tip, as a girl who practices show jumping, don't look in the mirror when you jump because you change your balance and the horse feels it, so it gets confused. however very good ♥️
I ride, and only use a dressage saddle if you only have a dressage saddle or horse is used to it and the horse does dressage not jumping not coming for Erin just for other riders out there making sure ppl are safe😌

And who cares what people say, I think you both did great!! One of these day you should try out a little gymnastics, keep them low but just have fun!! What an amazing team you are, he's too cute to be true!!! Congrats on a job well don't!!! Bravo!!!
I love your videos Erin! Your content is soooooooo good! I love Gee ❤️
It's easy to forget how dressage horses are gymnast and powerful!!!! He is not familiar on how to distribute his weight and power over obstacles. He did wonderful for first time considering his strength! Amazing ride!
Lysm!💜🥰
