- Made using an Opus One wine box to match the bass I made last week. Cherry neck and fretboard with a baltic birch ply top. The tune is Freight Train by Elizabeth Cotten.
I think this is the box Noah Cline gave me? I get them mixed up sometimes.
Awesome! That's really cool! And Freight Train is one of my favorite guitar songs.
That was beautiful
Thank you!
I really like the floating bridge design.
Thanks Aaron. It makes it easier for me to adjust intonation with a floating bridge
Your playing is exquisite.
Love the build
Thank you!
About to build my own soon, beautiful work!
@@xyn000 Thanks. Have fun building yours!
@@morbanjo2503 thank you!
You are a very talented man.
Thank you!
sounds great!
Thanks.
Wow that's incredible and well build. Would be great of you can make a video how you made it. May I ask you the box depth and bracing system?
Awesome! Thanks! 😎
Thank you!
i love it. What a great sound
Thank you.
So simple and so good! Love the neck! Wine box lids are usually really thin. Bet you had to put some sturdy bracing in there. Great sound!!!
Thanks Lou. This box didn't have a lid so I used 3mm Baltic birch. Still pretty thin but it's braced pretty well.
Totally awesome. Best ever
I loved Freight Train since I was 10 years old and the neck and rest of the guitar is wonderful. But where did you get that lovely tailpiece?
Thank you. I think I got the tailpiece from an eBay seller.
WoWoW! Look and sounds fantastic! EXCELLENT creative version of Freight Train! I`m wonder if a floating adjustable bridge would make this sound even better. Just thinking out loud.
Thank you Dan. I'm always willing to experiment with that sort of thing.
@@morbanjo2503 I tried it on one and it sounded good. And you can adjust string height a little bit to fine tune the action but I`m no one to be telling you. Just though I`d mention it. You can find them at ebay or amazon for around $10 or make one yourself.
@@DanDDirges Is this a metal bridge like on an electric guitar with the height and intonation adjustments or a wooden one?
@@morbanjo2503 No it`s a floating adjustable acoustic guitar bridge and saddle made out of rosewood. Kind of like the archtop acoustic jazz guitars but you can get them with a low profile for flat top acoustics. Sounds good and you can really dial in that action. I just thought it might be another option for this bigger guitar you made. But it sounds great the way it is! Grover Low Profile Rsewd Bridge for Flat Top Hollowbody Jazz Guitar 3379 is one with a metal saddle but there are other kinds too.
@@morbanjo2503 part 2 - Rosewood Archtop Guitar Bridge Bone Compensated Saddle for Kay Harmony has a bone nut instead of metal.
Wauw That a biggie !! Jim ! Some classic Cotton to boot !! thanks ! Your doing well by the looks of it !! greeeeettsszz A.D.
Thanks Andries. The box was even bigger but I cut it down some so I could get my arm around. Best sounding 6 string I've made so far.
Question:
Do you think a ROUND guitar (at least twice as large as a banjo) might have a better or unique sound compared to traditional guitars?
Great video, right to the point.
.
I'm not sure about a better sound, but it would definitely be different.
@@morbanjo2503 👍. Thanks for the reply. The one you played (Rectangular) in this video sounds very good.
.
@@DD-uf2uo Thanks
"Do you want to drink wine or play guitar?"
"Yes."
But seriously, sounds great.
Thanks. I play better after one glass, but worse after two!
One of the first tunes I taught myself on guitar to play fingerstyle, though I don’t think I can play it as nice as you did here. I enjoyed it.
This wine box guitar looks a bit bigger than the last one you made?I hear a bit of resonator guitar in it. Speaking of spirits, I hope the whiskey box I gave you has worked out. I’ve been a bit eager to see what you do with it.
Thanks Noah. I put all my boxes in a storage area and pull one out when an idea hits me. Do you remember what sort of whiskey box you you gave me? I'll dig around for it and use it soon.
No rush, Jim. I’ve just been watching to see how it might turn out and sound when you’ve uploaded your new builds (which I always enjoy seeing, even more so when I’ve seen them in person). It was an Alberta Springs Canadian whiskey box. I thought the “Old Time” was a nice touch lol.
