Having been there and done it mate... Watch yourself for burnout. 4.30am till gone 9pm days will catch up with you... Especially when you're juggling a young family as well. Sometimes people just need to wait or call someone else. Just saying if youre struggling a bit at the moment. Its ok to wear your underpants underneath your trousers every now and then...
This comment Watch yaself....you will indeed burnout and make yourself ill
Get some Scame isolators , ac ones yellow and red , dc ones light and dark grey.Same outside dims on the enclosures help the OCD ! Unistrut up the wall but a shame to fix to that wall on that nice house. Videos are good and entertaining, thank you
I think that what you have done looks neat. You can get matching isolators. I was impressed by those batteries and inverter last time when you mounted them in a garage although you had to pack the fixings out in places it has been designed well with the adjusting brackets. Other jobs it may be worth considering putting further half-paving slabs down or unistrutt vertically to help fixing.
9pm? that's commitment and your work shows your attention and dedication to detail, many thanks for creating the content and sharing it, all boats are lifted with your tide
Mate i watch you all the time! Ive subscribed when i listened from 0:18. I wish you where my mate or helper!
Nice but, zinc plated washers and screws will rust wherever you are and never be used exposed outdoors. Recommend choose galv or Stainless Steel (,the good grade) or similar.
I see the use of countersunk screws being used in the wrong type of situation too.
You could have placed the isolators near the drainpipe [ GN2 537.2.7_ It is quite acceptable for an isolator to be placed remotely from the equipment it isolates. However... the means of isolation must be capable of being secured in the OFF or open position. The isolator should be labelled to indicate which equipment it isolates] or ... alternatively the two isolators could be placed in an outside small enclosure with door, that could be colour coded same as the batteries. e.g. Wiska ABS IP65 300x200x130mm £16.50+
I was wondering if you could use an enclosure box or not. That certainly would make the job look very neat.👍
Wall anchors would be the way to go there, but more uneven surfaces, wall bolts with strips of plate is what I’d use
Doesn't make sense to me to have isolators that close to a battery. In the event of a fault or fire within the battery pack or inverter, the last thing you want to do is walk towards it to isolate it. Surely it's safer to isolate from a distance. A label or some sort of signage saying where the isolators are located would be better.
Spot on! Exactly what I was thinking. Its the same logic that calls for fire extinguishers next to hazards.
Another quality install mate your a great bloke I think it’s time for you to have a holiday don’t burn yourself out to much, I wish I was younger to start in the electrical trade but at 37 it’s bloody hard to find something that will work
Could you not have scooped out some gravel and put a couple of blobs of concrete where the back legs needed to be and let it go off overnight?
May be it was a one site visit job not local, but blobs would be good, so long as they didn't cause damp issues. That gravel is likely there to control water and drain it away from bldg
Your dedication is commendable. Great job
For something of that weight, I think that a completely uniform base would have been better, such as a poured concrete pad. And with such a nice-looking wall I think that building a mounting structure in front of the wall would have been worthwhile. If those batteries get removed after their lifetime, then it would have been nice to be able to return to a completely unmarred wall.
Galv conduit (sprayed to match guttering) for the drops to RHS of rear of panel. Tee into inverter & isolators ensuring to make the drain hole on the bottom of the tee. Use rubber washers behind isolators to level to wall & they could’ve been mounted next to each other next to the inverter. Get & appreciate the love you put into the work, but I (personally) wouldn’t be happy with that finish… sorry
Gas Engineer here, deffinetly agree with the other comments. Careful you don't burn yourself out. Saying that I am not self-employed and have friends who work those sorts of hours regularly on site to make decent money. Still, money isn't everything it's why I just do the emergency call-out work for British Gas. It pays really well and is basically my OT for the month. As long as you've got enough to live a comftable life what more do you need.
Bundy O’clock, great time of day
As far as I know DC Isolaters are no longer required in the regs but you're the spark 😂
Personally I would have used them expanding metal fixings for fixing something that heavy into stone/brick/concrete rather than relying on the plastic plugs but great to see you doing some battery storage 👊
don't know where to start with this video.
usual top craftman ship.
think a flat board against the wall would of been a good shout.
wouldn't of seen it as it only needed to be as wide as the fixings.
not sure about the bend radius of the ev ultra cable so am sure the entry into the house was fine?
lovely bit of flexicon jaccy.
also you looked ruined at the end.
bless.
looking forward to the next 1 chap
That milwaukee tool is a god send, you made an awkward job very neat.
Lovely job. You’re an adorable wally. I’m addicted to your channel.
Nice neat job Nick just as every one you do but Im surprised it wasn't mounted on a concrete base as it would have created a more stable platform. One suggestion for the switches is to have a steel housing box with swing out door in the same colour as the battery pack.
Two rows of the thin uni strut would have been ok to mount those batteries and quicker.
I don't know why ashp inverters etc don't have built in a ac isolators they ain't short of space inside and would be neater to run the cables direct to the unit.
I thought efixx were saying we shouldn't be installing DC isolators due to fires being caused, a lot of inverters do have built in DC isolators, although some still recommend a separate isolator as well.
Excellent video Nick as always.
Great idea using the pipe as a spacer 👌
Whether it is a great idea depends on the type of pipe. I hope that it isn't regular steel that can rust.
You did good job Nick to the best you can and it look very tidy. 👍👌 If it me, I'll probably spray paint the isolator boxes same colour as the battery 😀
Why are the switches need so close to the box, would they not be better behind the pipe for
1. Astetics.
2. Safety.
If you had a battery issue with maybe thermal runaway you wouldn't want to be stood next to the batteries to isolate them.
Just my thoughts.
Luv the videos Nick keep'm coming.
Panic attacks suck Nick... have you tried the 3/3/3 trick.... take a few seconds, concentrate on 3 things you can hear, then 3 things you can see, then move 3 muscles..... Had one today for NO reason
Another great day at the office ,end result looks good regardless of the isolators which I wouldn't have chosen either .
Nick you are a legend, love the talking intros, keep up the good work.
Great job Nick, it look clean and tidy.
When using anchors and the screw is not going to reach max depth inside the anchor you should put the screw in 100%, remove it, then carry on. That’ll ensure the anchor ‘cracks’/spreads properly in the material and does its job.
why don't the battery and solar equipment companys intergrate the isolators into their equipment. Surely that can be possible, it would also make installation easier and you wouldn't need ugly isolators visible ?!?!?
I have been called in by a client after there insurance company told them the isolators need to be 3m away from the inverters and batteries so they could be switched off under fault conditions without getting too close to the equipment.
Inverters do have dc isolators built in these days
Yea unfortunately you have to place isolators some distance away from the equipment, fire safety n all that
Surely the point of an isolator is so that it's separate from the installed equipment, so that you can ISOLATE the equipment if you need to work on it or replace etc?
Yip...nick , adapt and overcome . School teaches one , how to think , not what to think..../ or it should do !! / You on the fisher plugs....? bloody great
If Porsche design made isolators ! Try Scame AC 590.EM2013 / DC 590.DCGE0414 / other amperage variants available, the neatest isolators I have installed, would not go past them now.
why not just use some shallow uni strut and ram setting bolts ?? at most you add an inch off the wall but so much less messing about
Smashing video, anyone know what that small 'file' tool nick uses at 16:12 ? need it in my toolbag
It's a deburring tool
@@overtonl cheers!
You don't normally fit inverters on south facing walls, or at least the one's that i have fitted,
I'm only guessing that it was south due to the shade and the rail on the roof.
You should see the isolation switches, we call them disconnects here we use in the USA. You can't make them look good here. Plus you need all these dang ugly stickers all over everything.
Your outcome is pretty nice and if I was the homeowner I'd appreciate the extra attention to detail.
Need a popup gazebo only a little 2m one but something to whap out of your scared of the weather ;)
Hope you're OK Nick and whatever's going on personally concludes quickly.
Great video as always, I was wondering which Bosch laser level is that? I'm looking to get one and I've seen you use that one a lot!
Great video dude. A right warrior!
Spray them the same colour as the batteries or put them in a housing
Excellent video again NB 😎
9:51 where’s the jacket from Bundy!!?
That’s why you need to get yourself an apprentice!! 19:06 😁
I’d have used chem fixed studding with nuts and washers either side of the battery brackets to secure them to that wall. Infinite adjustability and you could cut off any extra length (fnarr!) to keep it neat.
You could have also spaced the batteries off the wall far enough so that all 4 feet were on the flagstone 👍🏻
Scame do an a.c isolator and a DC that are identical , just different colours
Can you put the isolators in a metal enclosure?
Unistrut rails? Wouldn’t that have been easier? Xx
That's what I was thinking also. Would have been a lot quicker
Threaded bar and uni?
100% gets some 10mm threaded bar and nuts bolts on the van perfect for jobs like this! Commercial solutions 👍🏼
Brown plugs? 😮. Should of used through bolts and packed it out with penny washers. Would of been easier
couple strips of uni strut would of been the way to go
Get some lipsil mate you can always put around your brown eye it will keep the chaps away
😂😂
I have a question someone could probably answer I’m currently doing my kitchen up and at the moment I have 6mm cable for a cooker do I still have a use for it as the new oven and hob run to a plug socket thank you.
Maybe you should call an electrician...
You still should achieve switched isolation for cooking appliances, not just plugged in.
pull the plug out ....isolated and disconnected@@idi0tdetectioninprogress
@@idi0tdetectioninprogress You can't get any more isolated than a plug and socket.
That is too long a day Nick, you need to look after yourself a bit better! I get what your are saying about the aesthetics with the isolators. Have you thought about a plastic enclosure with a door on it, especially if you could find a grey one to match, or near match the batteries' colour? You would probably get away with a 400mm x 200.
Could you not put the horrible ugly switches in a grey box that just is waterproof like the masterplug extension lead casing
Mate what fixing do you use for a house with outer insulation and render over the brick
Big ass long screws 100mm to 200mm depending on size of insulation
In the past I've used lengths of steel conduit to reach through the insulation back to the solid wall, then long fixings through that. Allows you to get a solid fix without crushing the insulation. Plastic conduit can work too - just depends how strong a fix you need.
Cheers lads much appreciated the conduit one sounds ideal cracking idea for balancing the weight
I normally use a 150mm screw on top for camera for insulated houses but the others standard drywall plugs. The secure screw can hold a camera the other ones are to stop it spinning. Remember thermal bridging...
@@UCCLdIk6R5ECGtaGm7oqO-TQ surely you should be using thick walled PA6 nylon tube as a spacer, for thermal bridging?
Just kidding.
And then 20:18 why not!
Craig and derricott do matching isolators
get the SCAME isolators...
Neat job, myself i probably would of ran both cables in conduits and ran them side by side just to keep everything uniform, hope you don't mind me saying. I probably would of ran two lengths of unistrut vertically up the wall behind the batteries and fixed to them.
Back with a new video
minium bending radui for SWA , think yours it too tight
It’s not swa 👍 ho7
I've noticed when screwing you pulse the trigger rather than go gung ho to the torque setting or being gentler with your trigger. Is this just for personal satisfaction?
There’s no school for the lessons of life unfortunately mate. We’ve all learnt stuff the hard way once or twice. Get back up and crack on mate 💪🏼
Everyone likes to be pulled off ? 2:27. Everyone likes bottom entry; do you know what I mean ? 4:00
That ladder is at way too shallow an angle !!
need a spin off channel so we can hear all about the shit going on in your personal life 😂
😂😂
I’m pretty sure that’s a section of the regulations that allows you to differs slightly if it’s not reasonably practicable to follow it as long as you have designed it safely I would think you could make the argument that the customer says no to something means that you are not able to do it and is not a practical solution so slightly adjusting the regulation whilst keeping the same element of safety or more is a perfectly reasonable thing as long as on any certification you justify and make it clear also with these batteries I would make the argument that if there was some kind of label on the inverter that if you look for an isolator the location becomes a parent that is perfectly safe as well as if the isolator is hidden but not concealed such that you could find them. if you install them like this in the wet can moisture be sealed inside the connector in such a way that it codes or are these connectors able to vent? I know that Europa manufacturer AC/DC ones that looks the same but sometimes you have to source them from eBay. They aren’t badly priced but I do not know about the longevity
That sentence has to be a world record? 😂
@@markrainford1219 it is UA-cam comment section pe punctuation and grammar and stuff are not exactly required and it would mean writing a comment takes 10 times longer
I have to question the installation of the battery packs here. Would two vertical 21mm unistruts fixed using wedge anchors been far more sensible. You could have stood them off with 8 or 10mm studs and avoided all the faff with making up weird spacers. Fitted battery packs with 6mm zebs and the jobs a good'un.
My first thought was make a unistrut frame when I saw that wall. Would have saved a lot of mither.
Tidy job
Nick your only 32 mate you learn something new every day still no ref to Adams mum 🙄 😉 😂😮😊😂😅😊
I would say your positioning was just abt close enough to the equipment. Any further and I'd've disagreed
How can someone ruin the facade of a beautiful house by putting up this hideous installation on the wall?
Stupid hours, just put you tea in a flask 😂😂😂
Putchased the sleeveit after watching the video of it. It seems to only fit 2 cartridges inside! Where can the model you were using with 3 inside be purchased from? Needs GY Blue and Brown. 🙈👍
"Not the sharpest brick in the wall ..." Tee hee. When will you, if ever, be starting a new apprentice? Would help to shorten your days, having another pair of hands?
You need some Help mate I know working on your own is ok for the Money but its not all about the money trust ,and not good for your mental health. If you need any standard drills re-grinding send the to me I will do them for Free
