Old one for me! I've seen the side by side drive comparisons, and the ones I've seen have talked about the NVH (noise vibration and harshness reduction) in the E-Tron, how its just a good amount quieter and softer, plus the build quality inside is absolutely rock solid, all the materials are luxury, and even the plastics are solid and don't make a sound. New Q6 E-Tron looks very plasticy with its touch buttons on the wheel, and the removal of all the metal parts i.e. the window buttons and centre dash. New one is more efficient with better charging and range etc, but can't help but feel the older one is just a better overall 'car' in general.with all the little things done right.
Yeah. I'm really disappointed the way Audi interior quality has gone down hill with this one. Used to be rock solid places to be and this one I'm not so sure... That's basically my biggest gripe with the car and other than that I'd be all over it. Oh and the charging ports....
I’m disappointed about the interior too. I like the design, but they cheaped out. If you look at the new A5 it’s the same design concept but it looks more expensive - actual metal on the door cards and air vents, etc. why would they do that?! The Q6 should be above the A5. But what side by side driving comparisons have you seen? Björn said NVH is very comparable, and the Q6 tested quieter in his scientific (as possible) tests.
The new charging flap is a joke. No reason for it not to be manual, its not like it's anymore premium, you have to press it the exact same amount anyway, so stupid.
Plus, the old one (e-tron 55) with the downward-moving mechanism looks much more aesthetically pleasing. The one on the Q6, even though it opens mechanically, resembles a combustion engine fuel door."
While Q6 is NOT a replacement of the Q8 the general degradation of interior quality in Audi cars is really sad. That was one of the reasons to pay the premium prices.
E-tron 55 has more “presence” and looks of luxury inside, but maybe that’s just me. Also, not worth it to trade in my E-tron 55 (low trade-in value somehow) for Q6 (high starting price).
We're in the same boat. I keep it anyway despite maybe a 2-3 other alternatives there is nothing that really makes me even consider changing. the e-tron 55 represents the benchmark; I’m not willing to settle for anything less if I choose to buy an Audi.
I’ve got the phat 55. I love it and the range is plenty. Have done many 1000km drives in it. Sure it’s inefficient but range is enough. My Q6 Quattro arrives later this year, but in the U.K. you can’t have air suspension on the Q6, only the SQ6. All the press Q6 cars in Europe have air suspension. Hope mine still rides well on steel springs.
It’s outrageous you can’t get air on the Q6 in the UK. I wonder why? To retain the Q8 at the flagship? I’m worried it will be the same when it (finally) launches in Australia. If so it’s a dealbreaker for me and I’ll just get a used etron. Air suspension is the one thing I want. It’s incomparable.
Thank you Bjorn, i have had the old 55 for a couple of years and even learned some new tricks in the interior. Love the comfort in the fat 55 but would appreciate more range some times so maybe Q6 is up next.
Excellent review. It’s a really hard choice between them, isn’t it? In my opinion the new one looks better and more modern but the overall space for passengers as well as luxury feel are certainly not up to expectation. The Q6 has promising specifications but more and more I feel like it’s a larger Q4 and not a smaller more modern Q8. Which suddenly makes it feel very very expensive and perhaps overpriced. Hmm..
One note. Have you measured the knee space and compared it in these two cars? The space in the old etron is way bigger. Also the room for feet under the front seat is much better in the old one. Surprising, since the Q6 is built on an ⚡ dedicated platform.
I have the old fat-etron (-22 sportback) and drove the q6 yesterday actually. Ok, it is better tech, more agile to drive.. BUT my old fatboy has better comfort and also - much more premium and feel of quality. So i am actually dissapointed. The cost-cut is real..
The Q6 is not a replacement for the original E-tron or the Q8, which currently has a starting base price £7,000 higher than the Q6 and will probably be even more when the upgraded Q8, with the same electronics and efficiency as the Q6 is introduced. The Q6 is the replacement for the Q5, is a similar overall size and the quality level is very similar. I own a Q5 and spent an hour sitting in and looking around a Q6 last week and I can’t really see any real drop in quality. It’s odd to compare it too a higher priced car that’s obviously the next step up in quality and size. Maybe in the Q6 as compared to the Q5, some things slightly worse, I didn’t like the internal front door handles (that were shown in the video) for example, but other areas were better, especially the screens. I have seen comments on the unlined door bins, they are unlined on my Q5 as well and I prefer this, as sweets left in there can make a sticky mess so a washable microfibre cloth is perfect to solve that issue. Test drive booked for two weeks time so we will see then what my overall impression is, but so far it looks positive as a Q5 replacement. It probably would not be a Q8 replacement if that next level of quality is required and you want or need a larger car and you are willing to pay for it, wait for the upgraded Q8.
Still on the fence regarding q8 vs q6 - booked a test drive of a q6 next week -- range between q6 vs q8 seems similar althrough q6 has better charging , newer tech the q8 seems to be win on the more premium interior

As an owner of the fat etron 55 i have to say: there are some points that are better in the q6 and some points than are better in the 55. I still like the looks and the more premium feel in some aspects of the 55. Only thing that i truly wanna have is the better headlights. My old 2013 Mercedes E Class had better Headlights than the 2019 E Tron (cause E Tron has static and the E Class had it moving)
Im kinda disappointed that in the back in the q6 u dont have those 4 climate control buttons,i mean in my e tron have the option 4 climate control at the back, but in the q6 u only get temperature and heated seats no air control.I wished also one thing that they add a touchpad in the q6 that way it will be more easy to control rather then streching ur arm
09:10 I grew up with Audi models for 30 years till my dad's retirement and i can see the cheapness of the Q6. For Example 10 year ago an Audi key was metal quality item or Audi had for decades a type of carpet design - like in the e-tron or my small 2001 A2, the Q6 has now a very cheap variant or look at the cheap plastic around the vents there is no difference to for example a Skoda Fabia - that is an at least 70.000 Euro car, but there will be enough customers.
They should just offer a MME upgrade for the old one.. I don’t understand way Audi don’t do this.. easily paid 20-30k for a new MME with faster screen, cpu etc and with OTA.. then the old one would be great. Just don’t get it.. start offering proper upgrad kits and make more cash on older cars..
How is the noise level and suspension in regards to comfort between these two? I bought a used e-tron 55 and the biggest issue I have with it is the motor noise at low speeds. Besides that I think it's great since the range is no problem for me.
When driving the old fashioned lay out on the fatboy infotainment is way superior. The new one is harder to read and on bumpy roads your chances of pressing the right button are at best 50/50.
Just from the looks I like the old one better. The new one is so phat and bulky. The old one looks more sporty. So actually the Q6 eTron should get the name fat Etron
@@bjornnyland Thanks Bjørn and really impressed on your videos🙌. I saw that video, so maybe the reason is that Motor testet a version without air suspension? But you did comment on a winding noise though.. Strange that Audi has not implemented the other features mentioned above
Disappointed they cheaped out on the interior. Especially since they just launched the new A5 which clearly has the same new concept but looks more expensive (the door cards/handles, the air vents look metal vs plastic, etc). This should be above the A5 not the other way around.
Of course they share many design details, that's part of building brand recognition, but overall they are not similar at all. Totally different proportions.
@@lt6532Sure but for its price I would consider the new Macan instead. I have the “old” 55 (2022) and just because of the new software and the extra ~80 km I would not switch.
I think Audi messed up the front of the Q6. It doesn‘t look very pleasing to the eyes or modern. The rear is good but it was already great on the fat e-tron. Overall I wish Audi would go for a different front on their EVs instead of having a big plastic single frame grill still. And please don‘t copy those slim chinese headlights, I think it‘s not smart to make an upper lightbar which basically is only for daylights and just a big beam with no design beyond it.

A used 55 is way better value for money, and more premium. If money didn’t matter, then i’d go for the new one.

Its crazy we live in a world where 3 years old is considered old.
The "old" e-tron's base tech is 6 years old. Long time for the fast developing EVs.
When the iPhone was invented in 2007, it was also considered old after three years. That's often the case with new technologies.
Welcome in a capitalist system
The nature of fast moving technology, it is based on a 6 year old platform which would even be considered old in a German brands car lifecycle.
Yes agreed - but as my colleagues stated - the fat Etron is 6 years or more. But lately I see the speed of change is slowing down? Is it only me?

in the old etron when you are lowering the rear seats, if the headrests are moved up it flattens the seats a bit more

Ventilation in the sides is missing because that Q6 hasnt the 4 zone climate, which the etron has, thats optional
