- A Florida high school student was arrested on August 16 after he allegedly posted online that he would use his father’s gun to kill people at his school, police said.
Video released by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office shows officers reading to the suspect the alleged comments, which police said were made on a gaming platform under the pseudonym Dalton Banhart.
The comment read: “I Dalton Barnhart vow to bring my fathers m15 to school and kill 7 people at a minimum.” It was spotted by the FBI, who reported it to local police.
According to police, the teenager said the comment was a joke.

He's a child just like the rest of the damn shooters if we are calling a 15 year old a child. It's not old people doing these shootings.
Apparently he isn’t people either
He was not thinking with a child’s mind when he stated that …. He was stupidly thinking from a preteen or teen’s mind that I’ll say this to get ATTENTION & Boy, he now has a whole lot of “NEGATIVE ATTENTION” on his entire family because his mom is in so much denial!!!
This mom has failed this boy and probably will fail him for the rest of his life. Just disappointing to watch the lack of comprehension and logic happening in her head.
Where's the kid's father? That's what I like to know. If the father was more active in the kid's life it likely wouldn't gotten to this point. The mother didn't help by indulging the kid.
This state failed America. What happened to freedom of speech. These officers are evil
Watching this again years later.... anyone noticed how unemotional the kid seems to be.... how calm?
The moment the mom said she did have a gun. I was like, motive, weapon, target. All we need is opportunity (the next school day), and we got murder bingo.
I think the mom's overly emotional and the kid can't show any emotion without upsetting her. So he can't deal with his feelings.
Yeap. I noticed. He knows it’s better to exercise his right to remain silent and not incriminate himself any further.
A 15-year-old is not "just a little boy", he's a sentient and conscious young man who knew what he was saying. Not hard at all to see where the root of the problem is.
Exactly teenagers are old enough to think and act like an adult and they are well aware of the decisions they make.

15 is still a kid.
15 isn’t a man, however, he is old enough to be fully aware that making such a statement is incredibly reckless and could lead to serious legal consequences.
@Charlie-bh3yk your right but keep in mind not all 15 years olds understand
15 is not a man. I believe this mother is in denial about her kid, but he's certainly not a man. His frontal lobe (decision making) won't even be fully developed until he's 25. I believe he is a kid who said something stupid without thinking about the consequences which is what 15-year-olds do unfortunately. I play video games (I'm old) and I hear kids saying the most, vile things during game play. The thing parents like this mother in the video need to do is get their kids off the screen. Many of them play violent games for hours and lose sight of reality and in games, there are no consequences.
The mother just displayed the exact type of parenting that can allow this type of BS to happen. Making excuses, etc.
100%
The mother should be furious about her kid making such threats, instead she thinks it’s “just a joke” when this is a massive issue that is destroying families. Understand this, lady, your son is exhibiting the same thinking as mass killers.

of course, we did the same thing at that age, too. you're right, we have a set of standards depending on who we're around.
I agree with your statement to an extent. I’d say it depends on how involved you were in their life before they were teenagers. Too little involvement or too much can absolutely lead to a parent not knowing what’s going on with their teen at all because either the teen thinks they don’t care anyway or the teen’s afraid of getting in trouble so they sneak around. This situation seems more like two strangers cohabiting instead of a parent and a child imo.
True. The parents are remembering them as sweet little 5 year old's. Once they're teens, the parents know only what their kid chooses to share, which usually isn't much.
They know. They lie to themselves because the truth is too painful but deep down they know their kid is garbage. Never underestimate a humans ability to twist reality to make it palatable.
