Owning several MK2s, I run into this same situation with the dealer claiming just about everything is NLA.
I'd bet they would say the fuel, motor oil & brake fluid are all NLA too if you asked them.

Was told you may be able to help, I have a 2000 jetta 1.8t 5 speed that started getting a ticking almost when in third gear when accelerating. Doesn't happen in nutrule or any other gears

Why does VW hide its battery fill holes by putting a large sticky lable over the top? I had assumed for years that these VW batteries were totally sealed . By accident I peeled back the lable and discovered these 6 screw in plastic fill plugs and low electrolyte levels. Filled the battery to its proper level and works great. A nine year old battery BTW.
Shame on you VW.
