How To Make It As A TikTok Influencer | I Tried

- An astronaut. A fireman. The president. Years ago, these are (probably) the answers kids gave when poised with the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” But 2022 is a different world, and according to a recent study, 54% of Gen Z teens dream about becoming influencers. With TikTok, that dream has never been more of a reality. But is fame really at our fingertips, or does going viral take a lot more work than we think?
VICE’s Zach Shucklin put that question to the test, throwing himself into a world of social media managers, disgusting challenges, and hype houses to see if blowing up on the app was truly as easy as it looks. Spoiler alert-it takes a lot more than hashtags to get to the top. Follow his sad journey to find out!

TikTok is a sign of how dumb our society is getting
Late stage capitalism and post modernism makes Tik Tok flourish.
The most dumb down generation ever
Part of the issue is, also, that TikTok (and every major social media platform, to different extents) is designed specifically to appeal to our most base emotions and defeat the collective rationality of entire demographics/populations. It's a bit of a chicken/egg problem; Which came first? TikTok staffs people at the top of their field, tasks them with figuring out how to manipulate and exploit vulnerabilities in human psychology, and pays them very well to do it. How much of it is our society becoming dumb, and how much of it is TikTok, and other platforms, deliberately making people dumber because it's more profitable?
@@ysy_y I agree with what you're saying but I HATE the "chicken and egg" analogy....eggs came first. Life on this planet started in the sea with egg laying creatures and plenty of reptiles laid eggs before chickens. The egg came first and anyone who isn't sure if it did is a moron who needs to repeat school
They said the same about tv when they first appeared in homes

A little bit of Nathan Fielder from Nathan for You.

Getting fame on social media is made up if basically two things, either doing somthing just absolutely crazy, or unknowingly feeding perverts in the world.
Unknowingly? Those online prostitutes know EXACTLY what they are degrading themselves for.
Knowingly* feeding
So natural human instincts are perverted???

This is super interesting. The Breezy Boys have recreated the structure and social media strategy of many kpop groups, just without the underlying singing, dancing and acting talent.

Something so empty about people making it their goal to get famous just to be famous, like when it's not to share an artist passion or talent they've worked hard on etc. But doing whatever it takes to reach their dream of being recognised and idolised by others.
This !
So you're practically selling your soul to become internet famous. Genius.

If I had one opportunity to change the past, I’d prevent the parents of TikTok’s CEO from ever marrying each other.
Throw Zuckerberg in there too
TikTok is just an OnlyFans with Teens.
No that’s OnlyFans as well
Who's to blame? Corporate allowed monetization which wasn't the case back then and now youngsters finally found the easiest way to draw dollars regardless of how cringe it will make them look. They probably also do 9-5 like the rest of us just to get their content right. At the end of the day they double their earnings more than the regular Joe.
Exactly. Filming, editing, marketing , promoting yourself, keeping a connection with fans who comment takes a long day’s work
They make more money than if they wasted 5 years to be like a dental assistant. And they don’t have student loans who wouldn’t ?
@@samuelgalea7679 Exactly the point, spot on.
They should round up the degenerates in this video and put them into labour camps. We don't need these bottom of the barrel DNA in our gene pool.
@@samuelgalea7679 except it doesn't take 5 years to become a dental assistant. It's a two year college course that costs no more than £1000 or for free if you get an apprenticeship at a dental surgery. The starting salary is £21k a year with the NHS moving to £24k after 3+ years. The % of users that make enough money on tik tok and not have a day job is less than 1% of users. Not to mention no income security as with tik tok you will have zero transferable skills or actual experience. Then again tik tok is creating a new generation of young people with terrible knowledge retention and attention spans.lets be honest After the age of 30 if you haven't "made it" on social media put no investment into your education or work experience you'll literally be fucked for the rest of your life
I mean, it isn't us paying for it thankfully. Besides our data being sold. It's all advertisement money. And I look at most monetized content as trash, but in the same sense I don't care. Because at the end of my day; it isn't anything personal towards me.
Just being random, I guess
There is just something so entertaining about milenials doing an “exploring the world of TikTok” video and realizing they’re old
💀
This is what the youth of today have to aspire to. So fucking sad.
It has always been like that. You guys just didn’t have the internet back then. LOL.

@@garycollumbell1396 That’s YOU. You should know that a lot of people crave fame and money and they’d do anything to get that. Especially when you have the “looks”.
I mean, other than China having all your data, this made me hate TikTok even more than I do.
Facebook and insta have your data too
Well in all fairness if you use Discord, Gmail, Facebook, or Instagram china probably has your data
@@dekalios4588Thanks Xi Xinping
I deleted TikTok years ago after I realized how many pe dos are on there casually being weird and soliciting attention from kids. Im grown, but it’s such a creepy platform and I can’t stomach it.
This just shows that I did the right thing by leaving TikTok. I'd rather build what I'm trying to do slowly and have it be real than what these creators have.
*Looks like I saved myself a bit of grief considering the data breach that just happened. I honestly advise anyone with an account now to either change your security measures or get rid of it all together. You'll probably be happier for it.
and what are you trying to do
The way he says “it’s getting in my shoes”
Isn't it amazing that we're able to witness a new kind of actors. I mean we always had people for entertainment and influencer of any platform are a new kind of entertainment people. These people simply exist to entertain with their whole being.
I don’t like referring to TikTok entertainers as actors - good actors bring a depth and study to an emotionally nuanced performance; TikTok entertainers exist at a very basic and shallow level.
The “Pee your pants challenge”? Lord help us.
I can say I'm really glad I'm not on any of this side of Tiktok tbh.. but it just shows how much is out there. If I took one thing from this The Breezy Boys were honestly very sweet and helpful to this guy. I'm guessing they are super popular with teens which is way out of my interest's but they seem super cool.
For an influencer house they actually seem somewhat grounded, which is surprising
Joey B toonz will have a field day with this 😂
This is insane 😭😭😭 but I get why people do it. They make a ton of money
You barely make any money on tiktok though, that's why they pump out so much content in a day
Not really lol. The good money comes from brand deals and sponsors, especially on TikTok. They have to create their own brand and diversify to survive long term or risk falling off the algorithm. UA-cam is much better for actually getting payed good money for your views, Adsense and to build a more dedicated following. Exporting clout from tiktok to other platforms is also much more effective than trying to viably monetize tiktok.
@@Bruh-wb3qw Yup, I meant money from tiktok itself vs youtube for example. If you got brand deals then you'll make good money anywhere
@@KevinVVV they make more than they would with a real job. The difference is they get paid more than the average job. And they do that without wasting 5 years at uni and having tens of thousands in student debt lol
@@KevinVVV I agree but I think there are less and less brand deals on tiktok because theres a lot more risk. They have to create marketing stunts or get lucky on a creator that nails a viral TikTok. It’s an investment that is less predictable unlike UA-cam. UA-cam is just overall better for the creators but way harder to grow like TikTok.
We need to get taji on this
when i saw it wasnt taji i almost clicked out and now i kind of wish i did. this host is obnoxious
This seems something Taji should have done…. Where is our boy
Yes, yes and yes
He’s bigger and better than that … I wanna see him do a 1 star review of a famous tiktoker
8:04 He lowkey spittin
15:09 He highkey spittin. The best youtube accts are ppl that hardly post, a clip from something they liked, them talking about something they did, their experience w/ lexapro, etc. Social media is for everyone
When the one Breezy Boy said it's all about showing your real personality and authenticity b/c good looks won't get you much of a following, I couldn't help but LMAO. He was so serious too; zero irony lolol.
All the creeps who used to hide in closet came out after tiktok
What a soulless place
The voice change from hanging out with the Breezy Boys to hanging out with Sebastian is really noticeable lol..
15:09 Michael said something so incredibly powerful - "people can recognize inauthenticity really quickly"...that is far truer today than it was even two decades ago. That's why if we choose to be a content creator, it's got to be something that we absolutely LOVE and adore doing. If we don't, and we end up gaining some traction with a following, we could end up living our daily life doing something we can't stand, and that's no way to live.
This is a masterclass in satire
I was expecting to make fun of most of the people in this video but honestly I can't. They doin them I guess
that's why India banned Tik Tok

This tiktokers probably won’t have careers in 10 years
but hey, Zac Efron, you're already famous 🤷🏻♂️
In my opinion I think it comes down to luck because some people that I see on the app make really good posts and never get one viral moment. Then their are others who I see who get a viral moment and what they did was super bland, dull, dumb and langurgorous but still made a hit. 🤔🤔🤔
