Ok, i really really love your videos and i think this deserve a proper response, so, here are my thought about it, i have a LOT of thoughts on this and this could be long, i will try to give it as short as i can. I think, the situation with Yamaha is that, when they decided to develop the CP3 and CP2 engines based on the Crossplane engine of the Yamah R1 2009, they decided to shift the company vision, i think the Yamah vision of KANDO is kind of lost or maybe... distorted from the original vision because of this. Back in the day, was year 2004 and the great! Yamaha FZ6 came to see the light, the Bike was a compact Sport bike, with a R6 engine with revised cams for better low to mid range torque delivery, at the expense of top end with a 14000rpm red line limit and no ram induction system. The idea of the bike was to bring superbike reign to the regular people but not being as radical, with a completely new SOLDER LESS in one piece Die Cast Aluminum frame, in contrast to the classic superbike Deltabox design, that allows a better position for the rider to endure long rides and city commuting, still the bike has Sport power, with R6 Die Cast Wheels but WITH A SUPER LOWER COST Waster Spark ignition system a a Group type fuel injection system, lower spec suspension and front brakes. From a business point of view, they tried to have a Lower Cost R6 that would eventually became the best seller Yamaha bike, but the net utility to Yamaha was law, because... it still has the same costly engine and parts, the bike isn't cheap to be fair... and then... they even make it better giving it FZ1 speedo and front brakes, better swing arm, but in essence the same bike, low profits to them so the bike... still being a super seller, it wasn't a everybody budget bike. So what they did??? YES!! THE FZ6R!!! a EVEN LOWER Spec FZ6, with a lower redline because a heavier crankshahft, this gives the bike a lower cost because of the steel casting not being so sophisticated (you can still today see a 100USD dollar price difference on this), different cams for better low and mid range torque delivery (The FZ6 was still very peeky, she loves 12.000rpm), but... with a tubular steel unibody frame, that lower the cost A LOT! now the frame a low grade in comparison to the diamond Die Cast aluminum of the FZ6, now its much more easier and less expensive to produce, with smaller bearings, smaller chain and sprockets (520 Oring vs 530 X-Ring), without subframe, with much worse but lower cost front brake and front forks and much lower cost exhaust. The FZ6R and XJ6 became a success in sales because of the high profits to Yamaha, a somehow lookalike situation was on the form of the FZ8... but that is another nightmare story jajaja. Many people forget the real FZ6 and grandfathehr of the FZ6r and XJ6, some, doesn't even know that bike, because is so old now... but still superior in every way, but because of this... the profits to Yamaha were real low, having R6 wheels, R6 engine, with a Superb chasis and suspension, they are not going to make much money out of this. By this time, they were developing the CP3 engine, to become the real and worthy successor to the FZ6 in the form of the FZ09, but for marketing reasons they in the end develop two machines the FZ09 and MT09... both bikes USES THE SAME BASE CHASIS OF THE FZ6, you can see the FZ6 ADN on the MT09 chasis, at least the first years, they are so similar, that on my FZ6 i haven have a MT09 lower triple to install R1 front forks... anyway... MT09 FZ09, etc they are going to become the next Kando product for Yamaha, leaving the FZ6r and XJ6 as a good selling products but nowhere near the flagship product to them. After this... all Yamaha bikes continue this ILOGICAL way of doing business, only thinking on profits, look at how they only now have 3 engines... CP2 CP3 and CP4, and every big bike is based on them!!! because of the cost! Look at the R7 for example... that is a insult to the R6 and the classical R7... but, they are going to use CP2 and CP3 engine until there is no more left on combustion engines, now Xtrail, turism, super sport and sport bikes are all based on them, to a cost point of view IS PERFECT BUSINESS! but... i think... Yamah lost its way on the way... lots its KANDO! This are my 2 cents, BTW. I apologize if my english is so terrible (i assume jeje) because i am from Colombia, a spanish speaking country.
Now... to every owner of this Bike, or the FZ1, FZ6, FZ8, XJ6, i recommend... NEVER SELL, at least not for now, there isn't really at least from Yamaha, another substitute for it, every person that i know that has sold a bike of this kind... has regret a lot. mostly because they were Inline 4 engine lovers and you would never find that again from Yamaha, not even buying the MT10, because yes, is a I4, but is cross plane, they sound awful! (my opinion, some love it) even with good performance, that is not everything on the bike world. I recomend loving your bike, modding your bike, having the best time with it, and making it your own... at least until electricity takes over the world.

@@HalfClickUp I am glad to know that there is more people interested on Yamaha tech, and bikes in general. Regarding the rumored R9... i have mis fealings with her, because, i really love screamer inline 4s, i dont like the CP3 sound, but taking that aside and looking at it with a objetive eye, i can see that maybe the R9 is the most interesting bike feature wise, the R7... it shouldn't never exist in my opinion, but the R9 it could be a entire new segment, considering that the Speed killer R6 was a track monster with its peeky engine delivering more than 120HP and a redline near to F1 cars and the agility of a 250cc bike but with the amazingly poor low end torque performance of the bike, at the point that you must use a lot the clutch... The R6 is basically DEAD starting, if you have tried a R6, even worst a R6R, those bikes are DEAD on the start, you feel the power on the FZs in comparison... but once they get to 10.000rpm... is the end, is a total monster... so... in short... there still room for performance improvement. Normally if you want a bigger torque bike to solve this, you would need a bigger engine, like a 750 like Suzuki did with the GSXR 750, it was the most balanced bike ever! feels like a 600 with almost a 1000 power... but still the 1000 was much over it, but... as soon as you get to the liter bikes, you will immediately notice what you lost... HANDLING!, The R1 for example is nowhere near the R6 agility, the way you swift through the twisties, change lanes, do skids, change direction rapidly, the R6 is a monster on agility. The R1 is still a agile bike for its size... but hell, you only would know what i am talking about, if you test both. So that is something... to be desired there, how can we have power but dont lose agility? THAT IS WHERE I THINK the CP3 could shine. The CP3 is small enough to be even more agile than the R6, if you have tried the MT09 for example, you will feel the bike is nimble, light, like it's overpowered for its weight. So... put that in a super bike package... like a Deltabox Frame with R6 43mm triple adjustable forks with triple adjustable shock... and AGILITY.. CHECK! And additionally you are gaining a 850cc engine with MUCH MUCH more torque than the R6... maybe if they tune the engine to deliver a little less torque but much more power, at very least R6 figures... That could be a VERY INTERESTING TRACK BIKE! i think it would kill every 4 cylinder and even other triples like the street triple. That would be the best case scenario. But after seeing what they did with the R7, with that 41mm forks, with a steel frame (Where is my Aluminum Deltabox that is characteristic to all YZF series???), those little like small bike like triple clamps... etc etc... that bike is a insult to the R7 name. The 1999 R7 was a MONSTER!. So after this... i think my hopes are too high. I don't even understand why in heavens name did they use a 180 section tyre on a bike that has less power than a FZ6? is beyond me. Like i said on the message before... i think Yamaha is all about profits now. If they make a Deltabox bike, with the CP3, and 43mm triple adjustable Kayaba forks or even electronic forks, with ohlins rear shock, less torque with more hp, with YCCT and YCCI, Anti wheelie (MUST with that powerful engine), launch control and abs... the R9 could be the king of a entire new segment, and would make us forget the R7 castrrophe. If you look closely.. Yamaha now aren't even investing on new engine designs, they could easily could revise the R6 engine to make it Euro V, but ... that engine is too expensive, it cost almost the same as the CP4 engine... for a bike that is 600, cost less... it doesnt make sense from the profit point of view, i think those CP, would be the last that we will see from Yamaha in internal combustion engines. Maybe the future now is electric, Kia for example is doing the same with the Car engines, they aren't investing anymore on research of combustion engines and even Europe is on the final stretch of Diesel and Gasoline engines with Diesel going first... That is why i think... sell bikes like ours today, to buy something like this... doesnt make sense... if i ever lost my bike or i need to sell it... i think my next bike won't be Yamaha. They dont have that i want. a Powerful Inline 4 engine with good chasis, good brakes y good price.

2011 FZ6R Raven owner here with 49,000 on my baby. Been riding for almost 8 years now here in crazy southern California and I've not had one single issue with my bike. Yamaha's are truly remarkable machines!! #TeamYamaha
The Yamaha dealership here where I live was anything but eager to sell me a FZ6R 3 years ago. I had done my homework, knew I wanted a sport tourer that was under $10k, capable but not supersport, and with fairings. The FZ6R was the easy choice. When I went in to the dealership, the saleslady said they don't stock the FZ6R. I said then who does? She said no one! This was in 2016 when it was still part of the lineup. I told her that if she found me one, I'd buy it. 3 months passed. She called me up and said she finally tracked one down, in a dealership 3500 km away. We had it shipped in, and I've been riding it everywhere. 43,000 km in 3 summers. But I agree that Yamaha pushed the heck out of the R3, then after that, it was the R6, or one of the nakeds. The FZ6R was lost so Yamaha could focus on other things, despite the fact that the FZ6R is the perfect choice for me, and many other riders.
Robert Ryan very, VERY well stated. And that’s pretty wild about your dealership experience. I’ll tell ya something else, too, is this bike is even becoming difficult to find on the used market. Either people are wrecking them, or hanging on to them. I know eBay is FILLED with factory parts from wrecked part-out FZ6Rs.
@@danielrobson9250 It's got just what I prefer, low to mid-range quickness and fine handling. Straight out breakneck speed on this (I've had it to just 137 MPH) just isn't that relevant to me.
Looking to buy 2009 with 15k miles was thinking it maybe has to many miles but im doing my homework on this bike and looks like it will last a very long healthy life lol
I picked up a 2016 Yamaha Fz6r with less than 10k miles for 3G about 3 months ago. Had it checked out by a motorcycle company before I bought it from the guy and it is in perfect condition. The person was moving and just wanted to get rid of it. He also cut the exhaust off at the base (about a foot down) of intake manifold (to make it as loud as possible) so I got a new exhaust coming. So far I love this bike and have zero regrets. I am new to riding, but grew up with the TTR-230 and the YZ-450 so I decided Yamaha all the way.

Hey Jay great video I think the reason why Yamaha has taken the FZ platform off is because of the new parallel twin Market that is part of their strategy due to the competition running the 270 degree twins like Honda's Africa twin and everybody else is vertical twin but the 270 crank
I guess I have a pretty close to the end model. I picked up my 2016 with low low low miles for a really good deal. I LOVE this bike. Honestly in my opinion it doesn’t get much better. It is a little heavy but I’m a small guy and I can whip this thing around anywhere. It’s a shame Yamaha did away with it. Going to start taking extra care of mine because one day it might be a collectors bike lol
I would imagine, as one fellow below commented, that it had some to do with keeping up with tightening emissions restrictions. I also think there were just other factors, including customer purchasing patterns and such. There was such a drive in "beginner sportbikes" over the last decade or so, with the "new" Ninja 250 around the time the FZ6R came along, and then the Ninja 650 twin, now revamped... the Suzuki offerings, the CBR offerings, etc.... Right now, if you want a fully faired , midsized, sport styled bike, with a more upright position than a Supersport, your options are few... options for a 4cyl to boot, leave almost no choices... There's a few small cc options for those looking at 650cc as too much, the R3, Ninja 400, and the CBR500R as well as the small one..and then the 4cyl CBR650R... I think that they didn't see enough demand for that "niche" bike to warrant a serious update to make a new modern FZ6R, and they also had other cakes in the oven, with the MT-07, XSR700, the 900cc triples, etc.. Now they have also come out with the R7, although not a 4cyl, and a bit above in price to the 650 offerings from other brands...and also a bit more aggressive in stance and rider position tham an FZ6R. .... that just sealed the deal a bit on the fate of the FZ6R. It was a great bike, and filled a nice market, for those who want a mid-size bike, with full fairing sport looks, and a more touring rider position... even though it wouldn't be a 4cyl, I would love to see a fully faired bike with the MT-07/XSR700/R7 power plant, with a bit less focus on Supersport riding style than the R7 brings.... Or one based off the 900cc triple cylinder. That would be a great bike.... R9, just aggressive enough to be fun on track days, for those types.... comfy enough for day rides and longer excursions, with options available to add luggage like the Honda 800 Intruder, the current Ninja1000 (not-ZX10), etc.... sport touring without the "grand touring" vibe of the big touring bikes.... I am looking into buying a bike, likely this winter or next spring, and am looking at options... midsized ... a used FZ6R is still on the short list...should have bought one a decade ago.. Of the current Yammies being made, XSR700 and get on without a fairing and windscreen, R7 , or....? Kinda anxious to see what more have to say about the R7 once it hits the wilds, although it isn't likely to get a hard bags option...lol
Fantastic written summary, and I agree! I was almost certain Yamaha’s next middleweight would compete directly with the GSXR-750, but alas it doesn’t even compete power-wise with the new RS660. Seems almost like a knee jerk reaction by Yamaha to rush the R7 to market once Aprilia’s new little rocket came on the scene. So easy to do, too, when you’ve got the CP2 platform ready to bolt into whatever you fab up (or lightly modify, for that matter).
Easy, which doesn't occur to Americans... The FZ6 (N, S, S2, and R) they ALL run with a detuned version of the "previous-R6" Which never got passed Euro3 regulations. The FZ07 (AKA MT07) went straight for Euro4, and the capacity to evolve to Euro5 regulations. The R6 engine then evolved to Euro4 regulation with the 2017 version, and now it needs to evolve for 2021 for Euro5 (which has a bigger effect on noise than purely emissions) That's why the FZ-line was killed in favor of the twin MT (including the previously named FZ07)

I've been riding for a long time and owned a lot of bikes ranging from 80 cc to 1100 cc engine capacity. Out of all the road bikes my favorite and my current ride is a FZ6N
I'd been tracking for a while, that's why I sold my 09 and got a 17 just to keep it around longer last year. If course I'm looking at the mt07 like dang that's a Lotta bike for the buck. Sounds better than other ptwins cause it's cross plane, gets crazy millage, same speed, lighter, etc
My buddy just picked up the mt07. It is fantastic. I got take it out for about an hour and it is smooth, fast and very comfortable. It definitely feels different than the Fz6r based on how you sit and a windscreen is a must. I am pretty new into riding, but I can the positive difference between my Fz6r and the mt07. Both are great.
honestly cbr650r, Kawasaki 650 and the Fz6r are all literally perfect starter bikes. The R7 is the new Fz6r honestly, better handling and still that subtle horsepower and still competes with the old R6's around a track. The Fz6r was a great bike, I drive an 09 fazer right now. I'd stay away from Suzuki, they're known for death wobbles at highspeed and are about to be banned from MotoGP due to safety. Honda and Yamaha are top of the food chain in Moto GP. They win every single time. Aprilia and Ducati have maybe won a few? (literally). R3's are like the Kawasaki 400s (but the R3 smokes a Kawasaki). R1M, R1, Cbr1000rr or Cbr1000rr-R Fireblade Sp. Those are the best bikes money can buy for track. Edit: I hate NAKEDS. Also Honda offers the 650r to this day, because it's a 94hp bike they sell for 8500, the Cbr600rr is 115hp, and they go for 12k. The cbr650r is less HP and competes with the R7s and the same price point. I think Yamaha/Honda realized normal people don't need 140-200hp to have fun, and anything around 100s good. The R7 is 77hp, but the thing can hit 0-60 in 3.4 seconds and run the quarter mile in 11 seconds. The R7 is all Bottom end and wasn't made to go 180+ but can tear up the track 100%, it even outperforms the 2020 R6, because the R6 has so much power it's hard to get it out of the turns. The Cbr650R is different than the 600rr but a normal person would think o.o 650 must be better. The R7 smokes the 650r on the track by the way. The Fz6r will smoke a lot of stuff, the only thing that can touch us is the new 650r but I don't care for honda, when I go big, I'm either going 09-13 R6 or I'm saving up for an R1 and going all in. Wait for the new R9, it's going to be a bad boy.
They reused the toolings of older models (like '03-'05 R6) to produce the FZ6R. After a while the tech got old so they retired it because they didn't have an upgrade plan for it at the time. I reckon a revised version is still in development. Could be another inline four, or perhaps an FZ7R to go toe to toe with the Ninja 650. That engine is so popular I can see they put it in more things (CP2 cruiser anyone?). I don't think the class is dead like you suggested. Bike trends come and go all the time. The Ninja 650 has never been not popular and CB650R do sell pretty well.
09 Yellow FZ6R here I got her new and I love the bike. I have 40,000 miles on her and used to be my every day year round bike. For the first 3 years I only had my bike then had kids so I had to buy a car. But I still love my FZ6R. I wonder if it’s because of the FZ9
That's the whole thing to FZ rode so much better on day-to-day driving than the MT for many different reasons BMT would handle the street straight line better because most streets have small bumps this that and the other the little expansion joints are raised up and s*** like that but when it comes to smoothness the FZ always felt better to me f*** Yamaha for canceling the FZ6R I honestly had no damn idea until literally June 20th of 2023 not one damn idea and they did that s*** looks like I'm going to be going with the special order R6 now and don't none of y'all try to tell me you can't get one it's just a little difficult that's all You're never going to see one in the showroom but they do still make the R6 Don't let some retard lie to you it's just special order
What I never understood when Yamaha made the Fz6r, effectively a Fared Fz6, is why they took away the aluminum frame that the Fz6 had in the process. The weight is the one thing it lacks a bit in (by way of having a bit too much of it)
Yes and they also went with a less aggressive cam profile, resulting in a bit less power; however the FZ6R’s engine is extraordinarily reliable, there’s no denying that.
The aluminum frames had cracking issues, seeing how it's cheaper and more reliable to go with a steel frame and I think yamaha product time line they didn't see to invest in a beefier alloy frame and instead went with steel and less investment, gave it a more street friendly power curve cam and tuning, seeing how it's target audience is sport touring and commuter it only made sense, you can always swap in fz6 cams and do the trigger mod and boom you have fz6 power but better midrange due to smaller throttle body and a slightly muted top end compared to fz6, and if you want it even spicier just swap in the throttle body from fz6 all about what's more important to you, I say cams and trigger mod with fuel controller best setup overall
@@ThatGuyKappa a while back I was reading on the Fizzer forum where there were some attempts to actually swap over the FZ6 cams, too, but I believe there are clearance issues with regards to journal fitment or something..
@@HalfClickUp the cams are drop in fitment, but you must use fz6r gears on the fz6 cams different chain thickness and the intake cam gears will needs to be machine bored out a tiny bit bigger to fit the cam shaft into it and then degreed properly I forget what centerline but with exhaust intake and cam mods alone alot of pple are getting mid 80s rwhp! Imagine adding the trigger wheel mod which advances ignition timing which is really easy just make sure you have a secure way of holding the trigger wheel in place to loosen the bolt, premium is required after the Tigger mod depending on how far you advance your timing, totally worth doing the trigger mode easy and free, then the stock exhaust mod gonna do that too.
@@ThatGuyKappa yeah the trigger wheel mod is still something I am interested in doing since I’ve finished up the valve adjustment and stem seal replacements. Just gotta be careful not to advance it *too* much!
Because the pure naked bikes are eating up naked sport market like the fz mts, hence why Harley's is coming out with the street fighter in 2020. Plain and simple people either want naked or track bike so why would Yamaha waste money producing these and I'm not against these bikes I love the combo.
Found a 2013 model in Team Blue here in Australia, with 11,000km (6,800 miles) for A$6,499 (around US$4,400). Looks brand new. I’m currently riding a 2016 R3 in blue. Not sure whether it’s enough of an upgrade from the R3 or whether I should just go all out and get an R6. Decisions...
MrDeepseadweller I think it’s purely on your riding style and what persona you want to reflect. For example, if you commute a lot, you’ll probably be quite satisfied with 300 more CC and a more upright stance. If you don’t care about aggressive riding position and potential lack of commuting comfort, then you’ll certainly be most happy with the power band of the R6. Either way, both excellent choices, and the 2013 in Team Yamaha Blue is, in my opinion, the best looking FZ6R ever made.
It was too good. A Swiss Army knife of a bike, they couldn’t let it outsell their more expensive machines lol. I’m hoping I can pick up a decent used one under $5k next summer. The same reason the Japanese manufacturers will never bring 250cc i4 bikes to the US. They would either have to cost as much as 600 class machines, therefore they wouldn’t sell, or they would be cheaper, and outsell the big bikes. Can’t have that lol.
Just bought a yellow 09 it's my first bike and the love the shit outta it I had an issue the first day I tried to ride turned out the rectifier started grounding out killing the battery I replaced that and now it runs great for $2200 I think it was a good deal..

Yes they are starting to get hard to come by for sure. If I were in the market for a bike today that was comparable in power and riding position, I’d probably go with the Honda CBR650R.

I think they scrapped it because they wanted to build a less expensive bike. 4cyls and all the components to go with it is costly. 2 cyls is much cheaper to manufacture. Thus they created the R7. a 2cyl cheap engine in an R6 body. They did a good job at fooling everyone because they pulled the R3 trick of taking an under powered bike and making it look fast as the real thing. Considering the Fz6r and the new R7 have about the same power it's a mid level bike with street and beginner friendliness in a go fast looking package.
There are no more 600cc motorcycles in market, (except R6). All makers are going up, 700cc and upper. With less cilinders but more torque. Why? I don't know.
2 reasons, 1 stricter emissions regulations. 2. Target audience and market naked street bikes commuters market is 🔥 hot so with fewer cylinders torque is more accessible down low and better for emissions, cons would be less smooth motor for longer rides. The market for do it all bike is a dying breed, not many 600cc and up class inline 4 anymore in that segment, like all models sales drives existence of them, there are only a few in the segment are the triumph trident 660 triple cbr 650 inline four

HardCore'Vette completely changes the bike’s attitude when entering turns. More positive input/feedback when establishing or adjusting your line. Should’ve come from the factory with clip-ons.
I disagree. The FZ6R was never a track weapon, but a sport tourer. I’d propose that the R7, being the track weapon that it was built to be (think MA Twins Cup), is the replacement for the R6 at the consumer level (with the R6 now only being offered by GYTR). There has been no replacement for the FZ6R, only a deletion of its entire premise, which is the Inline-4. For the record, my Fizzer walks R7s on the track. 😉
@@d1ff76 it doesn’t stand a chance. Supersport 600s have totally different cam profiles, fueling, and timing, and they also rev 3 to 4 thousand RPM higher than the Fizzer can. Remember, this may be a second gen R6 motor, but it’s scaled way back by power comparison.

I’ve done so many mods to the FZ6R where the air filter is cut tube so the air won’t be restricted I took the speed restrictor out added block off plates added a power commander and our six header with two brothers exhaust and put a different map in for the two brothers exhaust but not the two brothers exhaust mapAnd my bike now is a lot faster than the one it was when I first got it now I’m pushing 164 mph then before when I was pushing 137 136 mph without the Mods

Yo I’m having problems with my fz6r When I ride the front panel and speed gage flicker on and off I’m about to take it to shop but I don’t want them rip me off I have 2012.
Mr. Kleto sounds like a connection or grounding issue. Tear down the plastics around the bars and gauges like in my Ninja mirror installation video, but go further until you can get down to the power source. Check for tightness of connection. If already tight and clean, move down the harness and look for evidence of heat, like melted wiring sheath (may be grounding out).

Sport bikes are kids stuff. I have ridden for 58 years and 250,000 miles, but I got over the sport bike, hunched over, painted up scooters that impressionable youngsters want ,many many years ago.
@@HalfClickUp yeah I'm honestly trying to figure out how to get the damn oil filter off without a wrench of any kind because the one I've got is too large to fit on the filter they need suggestions even if I have to screw up the old filter I'm sure I can get one on tight enough by hand as long as I can get this old POS off
@@HalfClickUp and I'm also thinking my clutch is a little shot because when I had it jacked up just earlier given the chain the quick little cleaning I was getting on the throttle and would hear a bump coming from the side of the motor and it was only when I would initially get on the throttle with any amount of quickness on normal slow acceleration it wasn't doing that only once I would really hit the throttle
@@mikewazowski7830 your last resort will always be a screwdriver. Take a Philip's head and literally stab it through the filter. Use the screwdriver as a "wrench." I've had to do that one time, and that was the very first time I ever did an oil change on my Fizzer. Go with the HiFlo Filtro HF204RC. It has an integrated 17mm nut for using a socket wrench. Fan-frikkin-tastic.

Ok, i really really love your videos and i think this deserve a proper response, so, here are my thought about it, i have a LOT of thoughts on this and this could be long, i will try to give it as short as i can.
I think, the situation with Yamaha is that, when they decided to develop the CP3 and CP2 engines based on the Crossplane engine of the Yamah R1 2009, they decided to shift the company vision, i think the Yamah vision of KANDO is kind of lost or maybe... distorted from the original vision because of this.
Back in the day, was year 2004 and the great! Yamaha FZ6 came to see the light, the Bike was a compact Sport bike, with a R6 engine with revised cams for better low to mid range torque delivery, at the expense of top end with a 14000rpm red line limit and no ram induction system.
The idea of the bike was to bring superbike reign to the regular people but not being as radical, with a completely new SOLDER LESS in one piece Die Cast Aluminum frame, in contrast to the classic superbike Deltabox design, that allows a better position for the rider to endure long rides and city commuting, still the bike has Sport power, with R6 Die Cast Wheels but WITH A SUPER LOWER COST Waster Spark ignition system a a Group type fuel injection system, lower spec suspension and front brakes.
From a business point of view, they tried to have a Lower Cost R6 that would eventually became the best seller Yamaha bike, but the net utility to Yamaha was law, because... it still has the same costly engine and parts, the bike isn't cheap to be fair... and then... they even make it better giving it FZ1 speedo and front brakes, better swing arm, but in essence the same bike, low profits to them so the bike... still being a super seller, it wasn't a everybody budget bike.
So what they did??? YES!! THE FZ6R!!! a EVEN LOWER Spec FZ6, with a lower redline because a heavier crankshahft, this gives the bike a lower cost because of the steel casting not being so sophisticated (you can still today see a 100USD dollar price difference on this), different cams for better low and mid range torque delivery (The FZ6 was still very peeky, she loves 12.000rpm), but... with a tubular steel unibody frame, that lower the cost A LOT! now the frame a low grade in comparison to the diamond Die Cast aluminum of the FZ6, now its much more easier and less expensive to produce, with smaller bearings, smaller chain and sprockets (520 Oring vs 530 X-Ring), without subframe, with much worse but lower cost front brake and front forks and much lower cost exhaust.
The FZ6R and XJ6 became a success in sales because of the high profits to Yamaha, a somehow lookalike situation was on the form of the FZ8... but that is another nightmare story jajaja.
Many people forget the real FZ6 and grandfathehr of the FZ6r and XJ6, some, doesn't even know that bike, because is so old now... but still superior in every way, but because of this... the profits to Yamaha were real low, having R6 wheels, R6 engine, with a Superb chasis and suspension, they are not going to make much money out of this.
By this time, they were developing the CP3 engine, to become the real and worthy successor to the FZ6 in the form of the FZ09, but for marketing reasons they in the end develop two machines the FZ09 and MT09... both bikes USES THE SAME BASE CHASIS OF THE FZ6, you can see the FZ6 ADN on the MT09 chasis, at least the first years, they are so similar, that on my FZ6 i haven have a MT09 lower triple to install R1 front forks... anyway... MT09 FZ09, etc they are going to become the next Kando product for Yamaha, leaving the FZ6r and XJ6 as a good selling products but nowhere near the flagship product to them.
After this... all Yamaha bikes continue this ILOGICAL way of doing business, only thinking on profits, look at how they only now have 3 engines... CP2 CP3 and CP4, and every big bike is based on them!!! because of the cost! Look at the R7 for example... that is a insult to the R6 and the classical R7... but, they are going to use CP2 and CP3 engine until there is no more left on combustion engines, now Xtrail, turism, super sport and sport bikes are all based on them, to a cost point of view IS PERFECT BUSINESS! but... i think... Yamah lost its way on the way... lots its KANDO!

Now... to every owner of this Bike, or the FZ1, FZ6, FZ8, XJ6, i recommend... NEVER SELL, at least not for now, there isn't really at least from Yamaha, another substitute for it, every person that i know that has sold a bike of this kind... has regret a lot. mostly because they were Inline 4 engine lovers and you would never find that again from Yamaha, not even buying the MT10, because yes, is a I4, but is cross plane, they sound awful! (my opinion, some love it) even with good performance, that is not everything on the bike world.
I recomend loving your bike, modding your bike, having the best time with it, and making it your own... at least until electricity takes over the world.

Regarding the rumored R9... i have mis fealings with her, because, i really love screamer inline 4s, i dont like the CP3 sound, but taking that aside and looking at it with a objetive eye, i can see that maybe the R9 is the most interesting bike feature wise, the R7... it shouldn't never exist in my opinion, but the R9 it could be a entire new segment, considering that the Speed killer R6 was a track monster with its peeky engine delivering more than 120HP and a redline near to F1 cars and the agility of a 250cc bike but with the amazingly poor low end torque performance of the bike, at the point that you must use a lot the clutch... The R6 is basically DEAD starting, if you have tried a R6, even worst a R6R, those bikes are DEAD on the start, you feel the power on the FZs in comparison... but once they get to 10.000rpm... is the end, is a total monster... so... in short... there still room for performance improvement.
Normally if you want a bigger torque bike to solve this, you would need a bigger engine, like a 750 like Suzuki did with the GSXR 750, it was the most balanced bike ever! feels like a 600 with almost a 1000 power... but still the 1000 was much over it, but... as soon as you get to the liter bikes, you will immediately notice what you lost... HANDLING!, The R1 for example is nowhere near the R6 agility, the way you swift through the twisties, change lanes, do skids, change direction rapidly, the R6 is a monster on agility. The R1 is still a agile bike for its size... but hell, you only would know what i am talking about, if you test both.
So that is something... to be desired there, how can we have power but dont lose agility?
THAT IS WHERE I THINK the CP3 could shine.
The CP3 is small enough to be even more agile than the R6, if you have tried the MT09 for example, you will feel the bike is nimble, light, like it's overpowered for its weight. So... put that in a super bike package... like a Deltabox Frame with R6 43mm triple adjustable forks with triple adjustable shock... and AGILITY.. CHECK!
And additionally you are gaining a 850cc engine with MUCH MUCH more torque than the R6... maybe if they tune the engine to deliver a little less torque but much more power, at very least R6 figures...
That could be a VERY INTERESTING TRACK BIKE! i think it would kill every 4 cylinder and even other triples like the street triple.
That would be the best case scenario.
But after seeing what they did with the R7, with that 41mm forks, with a steel frame (Where is my Aluminum Deltabox that is characteristic to all YZF series???), those little like small bike like triple clamps... etc etc... that bike is a insult to the R7 name. The 1999 R7 was a MONSTER!. So after this... i think my hopes are too high. I don't even understand why in heavens name did they use a 180 section tyre on a bike that has less power than a FZ6? is beyond me.
Like i said on the message before... i think Yamaha is all about profits now.
If they make a Deltabox bike, with the CP3, and 43mm triple adjustable Kayaba forks or even electronic forks, with ohlins rear shock, less torque with more hp, with YCCT and YCCI, Anti wheelie (MUST with that powerful engine), launch control and abs... the R9 could be the king of a entire new segment, and would make us forget the R7 castrrophe.
If you look closely.. Yamaha now aren't even investing on new engine designs, they could easily could revise the R6 engine to make it Euro V, but ... that engine is too expensive, it cost almost the same as the CP4 engine... for a bike that is 600, cost less... it doesnt make sense from the profit point of view, i think those CP, would be the last that we will see from Yamaha in internal combustion engines. Maybe the future now is electric, Kia for example is doing the same with the Car engines, they aren't investing anymore on research of combustion engines and even Europe is on the final stretch of Diesel and Gasoline engines with Diesel going first...
That is why i think... sell bikes like ours today, to buy something like this... doesnt make sense... if i ever lost my bike or i need to sell it... i think my next bike won't be Yamaha. They dont have that i want. a Powerful Inline 4 engine with good chasis, good brakes y good price.

The Yamaha dealership here where I live was anything but eager to sell me a FZ6R 3 years ago. I had done my homework, knew I wanted a sport tourer that was under $10k, capable but not supersport, and with fairings. The FZ6R was the easy choice. When I went in to the dealership, the saleslady said they don't stock the FZ6R. I said then who does? She said no one! This was in 2016 when it was still part of the lineup. I told her that if she found me one, I'd buy it. 3 months passed. She called me up and said she finally tracked one down, in a dealership 3500 km away. We had it shipped in, and I've been riding it everywhere. 43,000 km in 3 summers. But I agree that Yamaha pushed the heck out of the R3, then after that, it was the R6, or one of the nakeds. The FZ6R was lost so Yamaha could focus on other things, despite the fact that the FZ6R is the perfect choice for me, and many other riders.
Robert Ryan very, VERY well stated. And that’s pretty wild about your dealership experience. I’ll tell ya something else, too, is this bike is even becoming difficult to find on the used market. Either people are wrecking them, or hanging on to them. I know eBay is FILLED with factory parts from wrecked part-out FZ6Rs.
I've had this '09 model to this day. New hoses and a good tuneup 2 years ago. This is the best all around Motorcycle I've ever owned.

I picked up a 2016 Yamaha Fz6r with less than 10k miles for 3G about 3 months ago. Had it checked out by a motorcycle company before I bought it from the guy and it is in perfect condition. The person was moving and just wanted to get rid of it. He also cut the exhaust off at the base (about a foot down) of intake manifold (to make it as loud as possible) so I got a new exhaust coming. So far I love this bike and have zero regrets. I am new to riding, but grew up with the TTR-230 and the YZ-450 so I decided Yamaha all the way.

Hey Jay great video I think the reason why Yamaha has taken the FZ platform off is because of the new parallel twin Market that is part of their strategy due to the competition running the 270 degree twins like Honda's Africa twin and everybody else is vertical twin but the 270 crank

I guess I have a pretty close to the end model. I picked up my 2016 with low low low miles for a really good deal. I LOVE this bike. Honestly in my opinion it doesn’t get much better. It is a little heavy but I’m a small guy and I can whip this thing around anywhere. It’s a shame Yamaha did away with it. Going to start taking extra care of mine because one day it might be a collectors bike lol

I would imagine, as one fellow below commented, that it had some to do with keeping up with tightening emissions restrictions. I also think there were just other factors, including customer purchasing patterns and such.
There was such a drive in "beginner sportbikes" over the last decade or so, with the "new" Ninja 250 around the time the FZ6R came along, and then the Ninja 650 twin, now revamped... the Suzuki offerings, the CBR offerings, etc....
Right now, if you want a fully faired , midsized, sport styled bike, with a more upright position than a Supersport, your options are few... options for a 4cyl to boot, leave almost no choices...
There's a few small cc options for those looking at 650cc as too much, the R3, Ninja 400, and the CBR500R as well as the small one..and then the 4cyl CBR650R...
I think that they didn't see enough demand for that "niche" bike to warrant a serious update to make a new modern FZ6R, and they also had other cakes in the oven, with the MT-07, XSR700, the 900cc triples, etc.. Now they have also come out with the R7, although not a 4cyl, and a bit above in price to the 650 offerings from other brands...and also a bit more aggressive in stance and rider position tham an FZ6R. .... that just sealed the deal a bit on the fate of the FZ6R.
It was a great bike, and filled a nice market, for those who want a mid-size bike, with full fairing sport looks, and a more touring rider position... even though it wouldn't be a 4cyl, I would love to see a fully faired bike with the MT-07/XSR700/R7 power plant, with a bit less focus on Supersport riding style than the R7 brings....
Or one based off the 900cc triple cylinder. That would be a great bike.... R9, just aggressive enough to be fun on track days, for those types.... comfy enough for day rides and longer excursions, with options available to add luggage like the Honda 800 Intruder, the current Ninja1000 (not-ZX10), etc.... sport touring without the "grand touring" vibe of the big touring bikes....
I am looking into buying a bike, likely this winter or next spring, and am looking at options... midsized ... a used FZ6R is still on the short list...should have bought one a decade ago..
Of the current Yammies being made, XSR700 and get on without a fairing and windscreen, R7 , or....? Kinda anxious to see what more have to say about the R7 once it hits the wilds, although it isn't likely to get a hard bags option...lol
Fantastic written summary, and I agree! I was almost certain Yamaha’s next middleweight would compete directly with the GSXR-750, but alas it doesn’t even compete power-wise with the new RS660. Seems almost like a knee jerk reaction by Yamaha to rush the R7 to market once Aprilia’s new little rocket came on the scene. So easy to do, too, when you’ve got the CP2 platform ready to bolt into whatever you fab up (or lightly modify, for that matter).
Easy, which doesn't occur to Americans... The FZ6 (N, S, S2, and R) they ALL run with a detuned version of the "previous-R6" Which never got passed Euro3 regulations. The FZ07 (AKA MT07) went straight for Euro4, and the capacity to evolve to Euro5 regulations. The R6 engine then evolved to Euro4 regulation with the 2017 version, and now it needs to evolve for 2021 for Euro5 (which has a bigger effect on noise than purely emissions)
That's why the FZ-line was killed in favor of the twin MT (including the previously named FZ07)

Remingtin I’m still leaning toward the GSXR 750, however the 2019 ZX6R in that gray/blue paint is sick. That $9999 price point is attractive as well.
My buddy just picked up the mt07. It is fantastic. I got take it out for about an hour and it is smooth, fast and very comfortable. It definitely feels different than the Fz6r based on how you sit and a windscreen is a must. I am pretty new into riding, but I can the positive difference between my Fz6r and the mt07. Both are great.

honestly cbr650r, Kawasaki 650 and the Fz6r are all literally perfect starter bikes. The R7 is the new Fz6r honestly, better handling and still that subtle horsepower and still competes with the old R6's around a track. The Fz6r was a great bike, I drive an 09 fazer right now. I'd stay away from Suzuki, they're known for death wobbles at highspeed and are about to be banned from MotoGP due to safety. Honda and Yamaha are top of the food chain in Moto GP. They win every single time. Aprilia and Ducati have maybe won a few? (literally). R3's are like the Kawasaki 400s (but the R3 smokes a Kawasaki). R1M, R1, Cbr1000rr or Cbr1000rr-R Fireblade Sp. Those are the best bikes money can buy for track. Edit: I hate NAKEDS. Also Honda offers the 650r to this day, because it's a 94hp bike they sell for 8500, the Cbr600rr is 115hp, and they go for 12k. The cbr650r is less HP and competes with the R7s and the same price point. I think Yamaha/Honda realized normal people don't need 140-200hp to have fun, and anything around 100s good. The R7 is 77hp, but the thing can hit 0-60 in 3.4 seconds and run the quarter mile in 11 seconds. The R7 is all Bottom end and wasn't made to go 180+ but can tear up the track 100%, it even outperforms the 2020 R6, because the R6 has so much power it's hard to get it out of the turns. The Cbr650R is different than the 600rr but a normal person would think o.o 650 must be better. The R7 smokes the 650r on the track by the way. The Fz6r will smoke a lot of stuff, the only thing that can touch us is the new 650r but I don't care for honda, when I go big, I'm either going 09-13 R6 or I'm saving up for an R1 and going all in. Wait for the new R9, it's going to be a bad boy.

They reused the toolings of older models (like '03-'05 R6) to produce the FZ6R. After a while the tech got old so they retired it because they didn't have an upgrade plan for it at the time. I reckon a revised version is still in development. Could be another inline four, or perhaps an FZ7R to go toe to toe with the Ninja 650. That engine is so popular I can see they put it in more things (CP2 cruiser anyone?). I don't think the class is dead like you suggested. Bike trends come and go all the time. The Ninja 650 has never been not popular and CB650R do sell pretty well.

09 Yellow FZ6R here I got her new and I love the bike. I have 40,000 miles on her and used to be my every day year round bike. For the first 3 years I only had my bike then had kids so I had to buy a car. But I still love my FZ6R. I wonder if it’s because of the FZ9

That's the whole thing to FZ rode so much better on day-to-day driving than the MT for many different reasons BMT would handle the street straight line better because most streets have small bumps this that and the other the little expansion joints are raised up and s*** like that but when it comes to smoothness the FZ always felt better to me f*** Yamaha for canceling the FZ6R I honestly had no damn idea until literally June 20th of 2023 not one damn idea and they did that s*** looks like I'm going to be going with the special order R6 now and don't none of y'all try to tell me you can't get one it's just a little difficult that's all You're never going to see one in the showroom but they do still make the R6 Don't let some retard lie to you it's just special order
What I never understood when Yamaha made the Fz6r, effectively a Fared Fz6, is why they took away the aluminum frame that the Fz6 had in the process. The weight is the one thing it lacks a bit in (by way of having a bit too much of it)
Yes and they also went with a less aggressive cam profile, resulting in a bit less power; however the FZ6R’s engine is extraordinarily reliable, there’s no denying that.
The aluminum frames had cracking issues, seeing how it's cheaper and more reliable to go with a steel frame and I think yamaha product time line they didn't see to invest in a beefier alloy frame and instead went with steel and less investment, gave it a more street friendly power curve cam and tuning, seeing how it's target audience is sport touring and commuter it only made sense, you can always swap in fz6 cams and do the trigger mod and boom you have fz6 power but better midrange due to smaller throttle body and a slightly muted top end compared to fz6, and if you want it even spicier just swap in the throttle body from fz6 all about what's more important to you, I say cams and trigger mod with fuel controller best setup overall
@@ThatGuyKappa a while back I was reading on the Fizzer forum where there were some attempts to actually swap over the FZ6 cams, too, but I believe there are clearance issues with regards to journal fitment or something..
@@HalfClickUp the cams are drop in fitment, but you must use fz6r gears on the fz6 cams different chain thickness and the intake cam gears will needs to be machine bored out a tiny bit bigger to fit the cam shaft into it and then degreed properly I forget what centerline but with exhaust intake and cam mods alone alot of pple are getting mid 80s rwhp! Imagine adding the trigger wheel mod which advances ignition timing which is really easy just make sure you have a secure way of holding the trigger wheel in place to loosen the bolt, premium is required after the Tigger mod depending on how far you advance your timing, totally worth doing the trigger mode easy and free, then the stock exhaust mod gonna do that too.
@@ThatGuyKappa yeah the trigger wheel mod is still something I am interested in doing since I’ve finished up the valve adjustment and stem seal replacements. Just gotta be careful not to advance it *too* much!
Because the pure naked bikes are eating up naked sport market like the fz mts, hence why Harley's is coming out with the street fighter in 2020. Plain and simple people either want naked or track bike so why would Yamaha waste money producing these and I'm not against these bikes I love the combo.

Found a 2013 model in Team Blue here in Australia, with 11,000km (6,800 miles) for A$6,499 (around US$4,400). Looks brand new. I’m currently riding a 2016 R3 in blue. Not sure whether it’s enough of an upgrade from the R3 or whether I should just go all out and get an R6. Decisions...
MrDeepseadweller I think it’s purely on your riding style and what persona you want to reflect. For example, if you commute a lot, you’ll probably be quite satisfied with 300 more CC and a more upright stance. If you don’t care about aggressive riding position and potential lack of commuting comfort, then you’ll certainly be most happy with the power band of the R6. Either way, both excellent choices, and the 2013 in Team Yamaha Blue is, in my opinion, the best looking FZ6R ever made.
What did you go for in the end?? I'm looking at getting my second bike (have ridden for a few years) and tossing up between this and the R3

Just bought a yellow 09 it's my first bike and the love the shit outta it I had an issue the first day I tried to ride turned out the rectifier started grounding out killing the battery I replaced that and now it runs great for $2200 I think it was a good deal..

I think they scrapped it because they wanted to build a less expensive bike. 4cyls and all the components to go with it is costly. 2 cyls is much cheaper to manufacture. Thus they created the R7. a 2cyl cheap engine in an R6 body. They did a good job at fooling everyone because they pulled the R3 trick of taking an under powered bike and making it look fast as the real thing. Considering the Fz6r and the new R7 have about the same power it's a mid level bike with street and beginner friendliness in a go fast looking package.
I wish the R7 was a more competitive bike. I’d imagine the RS660 runs circles around em.
There are no more 600cc motorcycles in market, (except R6). All makers are going up, 700cc and upper. With less cilinders but more torque. Why? I don't know.

2 reasons, 1 stricter emissions regulations. 2. Target audience and market naked street bikes commuters market is 🔥 hot so with fewer cylinders torque is more accessible down low and better for emissions, cons would be less smooth motor for longer rides. The market for do it all bike is a dying breed, not many 600cc and up class inline 4 anymore in that segment, like all models sales drives existence of them, there are only a few in the segment are the triumph trident 660 triple cbr 650 inline four

Arnel ??? With this 1.5” rise, the cables are pulled pretty dang tightly. You MIGHT be able to go with a 2” rise, but no guarantee.

I disagree. The FZ6R was never a track weapon, but a sport tourer. I’d propose that the R7, being the track weapon that it was built to be (think MA Twins Cup), is the replacement for the R6 at the consumer level (with the R6 now only being offered by GYTR). There has been no replacement for the FZ6R, only a deletion of its entire premise, which is the Inline-4. For the record, my Fizzer walks R7s on the track. 😉

@@d1ff76 it doesn’t stand a chance. Supersport 600s have totally different cam profiles, fueling, and timing, and they also rev 3 to 4 thousand RPM higher than the Fizzer can. Remember, this may be a second gen R6 motor, but it’s scaled way back by power comparison.

I’ve done so many mods to the FZ6R where the air filter is cut tube so the air won’t be restricted I took the speed restrictor out added block off plates added a power commander and our six header with two brothers exhaust and put a different map in for the two brothers exhaust but not the two brothers exhaust mapAnd my bike now is a lot faster than the one it was when I first got it now I’m pushing 164 mph then before when I was pushing 137 136 mph without the Mods

Yo I’m having problems with my fz6r
When I ride the front panel and speed gage flicker on and off I’m about to take it to shop but I don’t want them rip me off I have 2012.
Mr. Kleto sounds like a connection or grounding issue. Tear down the plastics around the bars and gauges like in my Ninja mirror installation video, but go further until you can get down to the power source. Check for tightness of connection. If already tight and clean, move down the harness and look for evidence of heat, like melted wiring sheath (may be grounding out).

@@HalfClickUp yeah I'm honestly trying to figure out how to get the damn oil filter off without a wrench of any kind because the one I've got is too large to fit on the filter they need suggestions even if I have to screw up the old filter I'm sure I can get one on tight enough by hand as long as I can get this old POS off
@@HalfClickUp and I'm also thinking my clutch is a little shot because when I had it jacked up just earlier given the chain the quick little cleaning I was getting on the throttle and would hear a bump coming from the side of the motor and it was only when I would initially get on the throttle with any amount of quickness on normal slow acceleration it wasn't doing that only once I would really hit the throttle
@@mikewazowski7830 your last resort will always be a screwdriver. Take a Philip's head and literally stab it through the filter. Use the screwdriver as a "wrench." I've had to do that one time, and that was the very first time I ever did an oil change on my Fizzer. Go with the HiFlo Filtro HF204RC. It has an integrated 17mm nut for using a socket wrench. Fan-frikkin-tastic.
@@HalfClickUp since I'm needing to do this oil change ASAP and I've already got the oil out of the bike I'm just having to use the one that I currently got but I will definitely be checking that one out for the next oil change and would you read over my last comment about where I talked about what my clutches possibly doing and tell me if you've ever experienced it than what you did to fix it I really appreciate you responding that to these comments though Hope you're 09 is still running well as long as you still got it
