- S5:E8 BUTTERFLY 101| BLOCK V REACTION | HALF PAD SAVES
I capture our butterfly lesson with Jacob Fleming from Southern California. He is one of the best 11 year old goalies in the Nation.
We breakdown the difference between and block and reactionary butterfly, when and where to adjust your flare and importantly how to incorporate a half pad save into your save selection arsenal.
We get some cool BTS dressing stuff and find out what color Corvette Jacob is buying coach when he makes it to the NHL.

We love working with adult goalies and have a large student component of female goaltenders.
Incredibly talented kid...as his grandfather I'm entitled to brag! Yes... future NCAA and NHL according to my crystal ball.
Grandkids are the best!
I love how you sneak in a bit of beer league goalie content into your elite sessions
My core audience
Love watching your videos with my young goalie!
Thanks Adam! Tell him Keeks says hello
Ive been using the half butterfly for years. I'm turning 49 in July and haven't had hip issues thanks to that technique
Smart man!
Another great video! Thanks
Great stuff as always! Thank you to the GOAT
Thx sir
external rotation and the stress/strain it puts on the hips and knees are not worth it for us beer leaguers. hell, even the pros say it ain't even worth it once they have hip surgery. i'd rather be able to walk instead of being down i let in a goal due to a narrow butterfly lol
Well said. All these butterfly challenge exercises and stretching caused a strange pain in my right knee. I gave up on it and got over the fact that I will never have a wide butterfly starting playing goalie at the age of 30.
Thank you Coach for another useful tips for us beer leaguers. Thumbnail made me wonder what you think about Bobrowski's performance in these play-offs? He's got that unique style of pushing his body towards the puck and making these shoulder and head saves. It looks bizzare at first sight but turned out to be incredibly effective.
If it works for him…… thx for watching
Half pad flair save All the Way! I have a weak butterfly flair with both legs, Jealous of those that can, but having different save selections never hurts 👍
The half pad has worked for decades…
One of the lucky ones to have a fairly wide butterfly at 52 with no ankle, knee or hip strains, but I also love a good half pad save at the same time. Very good thoughts on the stick involvement, too. Gotta work on that blocker side. Thanks coach!
Self analysis on point
Digging the half butterfly technique, that might help me
Gotta tell the kid he can definitely get SOME stops on somebody like Zegras, maybe not consistently or on demand yet, but my first summer in net i got a few stops against Kyle Wilson a few weeks after he won his first of 2 back to back Calder cups, mostly he made all of us look stupid, but i still got a few good ones

If you ain’t first you are last
Just want to say big fan of the content so keep it up! I've been a fan of your breakdowns of pro players and their qualities work towards. There's another channel that used to make longer form videos on pros/cons of goalies which was great, but I imagine they take a lot of work to make. I would love to see your take in maybe one longer form video in a blue moon, either way love the videos.
The channel just if you were curious:
