    Thanks! I went back to this video to watch it again. I catch myself drifting back into the blue, and not standing my ground. After the puck is behind me, I see that I am deep in the blue, and curse myself. Really, helpful vid! Thanks, again!

    Just started playing goalie about a year and a half ago, and have had no formal coaching whatsoever. This video was great and made me realize I tend to sit way back in my crease. Very very helpful!

    Love this series. This gives me content that I can show back and "assign" to my goalies when my explanations don't get accross. Which is usually more often than not. Although at 40, I don't consider myself "old" yet but I am feeling it.

    Man, I learn so much, and have fun doing it, while watching your videos. Thanks a million from an old guy that is making more saves than ever because of it.

    I played in the morning and my depth was super conservative because I wasn’t trusting my skating. I played again the same day but after watching all three of these videos and I genuinely saved 20% or more pucks than before (and against higher level guys). Incredible work Steve, thank you

    "Don't be offended"? Hell, I'm just happy you acknowledge my existence. The entire series on angles has been a great reminder of what I need to focus on when I eventually get back on the ice. Thanks, Steve.

    Thanks a lot! I play ball hockey and your videos have really helped me out. I’ve
    never played ice hockey so I’ve never had any coaching on how to play between the pipes. Going for our second championship in row tonight. I wouldn’t be there without your videos

    This was an excellent video to end the series on angles. I really enjoyed the NHL clips and your explanations at the end. Hearing you vocalize the goalies actions in each situation and break down the play as it developed was great. Definitely that older and out of shape guy, but certainly not offended. Appreciate all your help. Hope these types of videos keep coming.

    Thank you for the very helpful, orderly video presentation. The graphic or goalie net space in relation to the puck, communicated as a shadow is a very powerful way to illustrate depth changes of the puck.

    So good. I'd say most goals I give up are too deep in the crease (yeah, I'm 5'8 I shouldn't do that, you 100% diagnosed its to be able to get across faster) and giving up space on the front door because I'm cheating back door (same issue). Can't grow, I can improve conditioning to have more energy.

    None offense taken! As an old outdated goalie, conservative positioning is still working for me.
    But I think that is because the guys I play with are also old and outdated, haha :)
    Keep up the good work with the videos, always looking forward watching them!

    good infoas always. at only 5'10" I find myself in aggressive depth a lot, need to work on holding ground at a more standard depth for sure. you mention you dont want goalies sliding to the post, what should you do? go past in an overlap?

    Loving these videos Steve and as an Ontario boy, wish I had a goalie coach like you back in my younger days. I gotta ask, is there some truth or element on how a goalie reads and/or positions themselves based on the shooters hand? For example, if the shooter is lefty and is coming down on the right and vise versa. Thanks again!

    • @FutureProGoaltending
      @FutureProGoaltending  4 роки тому +1

      Antonio Lazzaro thanks for the nice words. I think the hand recognition is more important in off puck reads for the guy who doesn’t have the puck yet. Generally speaking I would not worry too much about the hand of the shooter with the puck and puck your positional target based on the puck, almost in your mind make the shooter invisible. Exceptions would be if a gout is known as a guy who does puck adjustment like drag snappers etc

  • @juusolaine911
    @juusolaine911 4 роки тому

    Correct me if I’m wrong, but the goalies first priority should always be the puck carrier, of course you have to pay attention to other threats, but the puck carrier is the goalies first responsibility.

      @@FutureProGoaltending yes. Alot!!!
      Even just how you explain breaking down the plays and goalie reactions. I've been doing it on my own now..
      And i spend hours visualizing these types of scenarios you bring up so my brain has the muscle memory of what I want to happen .. just need to get on the ice to apply them physically and get my brain applying those thaughts at game speed .. But I think what sets your videos apart from most of the other goalie coaches I watch is how in depth you get and you actually give theory and historical facts to support and explain why we do these things. Instead of you should do this or do that, but then you never know when to apply it .. like being in rvh when the puck is more then 5 or so feet away or behind the net.

  • @ryana3679

    I was an aggressive depth goalie in the late 90s but by Bantam level that all changed to standard depth with the odd aggressive moment. With my size and speed it fit with my game. One thing I don’t see very rarely is active sticks. Breaking up passes, poke checks etc. Is that something that’s a no no or just not coached?

    • @FutureProGoaltending
      @FutureProGoaltending  4 роки тому +1

      Ryan A It is a pet peeve of mine that there is “stick shyness” today. Poke checking ( smartly) cutting passes and just general stick involvement seems to be on the downswing when it is HUGE advantage to have as a tool. “The best save you’ll ever make is one you don’t have to make”

    • @ryana3679
      @ryana3679 4 роки тому

      FutureProGoaltending exactly. If you can breakup why wouldn’t you. Is it just a coaching thing then or players just not confident enough? Fleury of the best active sticks in the league that I can see now.

    • @FutureProGoaltending
      @FutureProGoaltending  4 роки тому

      Generally speaking I think many goalie coaches have never been taught stick use so have no frame of reference to teach it to young kids. And understanding judicious use is still possible appears to be foreign as many would rather let a pass come thru two feet away so they can make a heroic back door save.Hence the “falling in love with the backdoor”
